LONDON RIOTS

I hear that England is blaming it on video games like GTA. I personally blame riots and looting on... PEOPLE WANT FREE SHIT.

I saw a picture somewhere regarding that and thought it was a joke at first but apparently not. London Evening Standard was reporting it. Just goes to show, they have nothing to add to the debate.

Shops smashed and BBC cameraman attacked in Salford

Oops jinxed it
I've heard about this so many times...
It started in London, and every other place around England is using that as an excuse to cause mischief and riots - its been happening here in Hull all day. The only places I'm aware of it reaching so far are;
London, Birmingham, Telford, Stratshire, Salford, Hull, Liverpool, Manchester and other places around those areas too. Seems pretty stupid for a single death - even though it was a young person - in my opinion.

As for that guy who was shot, it's being reported now that a non-Police firearm was found at the scene. Non-police bullets have also been found at the scene, although the bullet that hit a policeman may have been the result of friendly fire. The Police were looking to arrest a guy for possessing a firearm, someone shot at them and it turns out the person they were trying to arrest had a firearm. Seems like they were in the right, to me.

I would be very skeptical of this. Police world-wide are notorious for looking after their own by planting something or coordinating an alibi.
Plus, it seems like something out of Cheech and Chong Riot in London. Oh, turns out there's another gun at the scene. We found it in a trash can. How about that? This changes everything!
Police said that the man shot the copper and it hit his radio. It turns out the bullet in the radio was from a police-issue gun. The man's gun was loaded but was never fired (but now they're saying just because we can't prove it was fire, we can't prove it wasn't fire). Doesn't explain why the initial report said he fired first, seems like a cover-up of sorts. That's why there's so much anger and frustration in Tottenham.

Anyway, today seems relatively quiet. Police have said they will use plastic bullets if needed.

So which police in London use guns?

We have the Metropolitan Police here and they usually are not armed. Seen many walk around but they never carry guns, only batons, handcuffs and some sprays. There are other special units that are armed namely the counter-terrorism unit who are reserved for those circumstances. In a way, you could say the riots are a form of terrorism but the police are too afraid of public opinion to do anything it seems. Don't blame them tbh.

I live in Greenwich, only one post code away from the riots in Lewisham. I have seen police with guns before they carried MP5's and pistols in Central London.

I heard the Turkish and Kurdish community in the North London area stood up and protected their own kebab shops as well as the muslim and sikh community protecting their area, more communities need to do this.

The riots around the other areas apart from Tottenham are just people looking for free stuff, the riot in Tottenham may have been triggered by a man being shot dead but thats not the reason for the widespread chaos in the country. Young people like the "Ghetto gangsters/thugsters" and chavs are using it as an opportunity to grab whatever they can, parents need to enforce discipline and stop them it is entirely their responsibility but they are not doing it.

Police need to impose Martial Law, Zero Tolerance! The police are but a few and they don't really stand up to the rioters as you can see in a few videos on YouTube and they seem to retreat at the slightest advance from the rioters. Society needs to take a stand and sort out these youngsters, we have kids as little as using guns and killing people, something needs to be done, action needs to be taken...

Why should the Police wait to get shot at before being allowed to shoot back? Seriously...
You're amazed at their violence, I'm amazed at yours...
For the record my city's been hit. I've been watching the twitter feeds all day. It's almost funny how apathetic we are about even rioting here. But in terms of the bigger picture let's just say that you know the shit has hit the fan when Wolverhampton starts rioting.

F-G I hope you're taking notes for your game :P
@supremewarrior: RE: Police carrying guns. Yes that should be the case but from my own experiences down here and even yesterday during the riots, not one single policeman had a firearm on him. It's probably different down south where tougher law enforcers are deployed. :P

The police usually do not use firearms unless there is an armed scenario taking place, the firearms unit are based in Whitechapel, Central London way far away from where you are I don't know if you they have another unit elsewhere. Rubber bullets might be used and they really should just use them and tear gas, not need for live rounds just yet...
