GREATEST GAMES YOU'VE PLAYED

I want to say Persona 2 (Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment combined). Even after 10 years, I'm still learning new stuff about them, or certain themes that didn't make sense to me as a kid are starting to make sense to me now. I have never seen so much depth packed into an RPG. Atlus really did their research.

But the correct answer is probably Ocarina of Time. The game is literally flawless.

Atlus is good at games.
This game was aheads of it's time!

Syndicate

This game out on the PC and the SNES and a few others I think, I never liked the sequel though..
This is like another game I like, Shadowrun

Genesis version is way better in my opinion, but there is an SNES version that is pretty decent too
Ratty524
The 524 is for 524 Stone Crabs

Man there are many games I've played that I consider great, but to single out to the greatest?

I think I'll give that award to Crono Trigger. While most RPGs kind of get boring after a while due to the grinding, this is a game I NEVER got tired of playing.
Chrono Trigger! That's right!
Yet I can't believe I'm the only one who mentioned Super Metroid... might be the only one old enough to have played it...
Super Metroid was an amazing game, for sure. Although I sort of ruined it by meta-gaming it so hard (speed runs, low % runs, etc.)

I picked one game as 'Greatest' and it was Link to the Past. Super Mario World, Super Metroid, FF6, and Chrono Trigger are right up there as well.

Escape from Monkey Island
How did I forget this? When I was a kid, this and a similar Sherlock Holmes and LOOM were some of the only games I enjoyed. Sonic, Mario and the rest (we didn't have many) collected dust as I started my love of point and click mystery/adventure/puzxle games. In a lot of ways that genre is the best videogame I've played.
I was only 2 when super metroid came out, and on top of that I was an avid Sega Kid, so the metroid series is only something I picked up in teen years...
I always thought Sega had its fair amount of great games, not to mention that their gaming systems were always one step ahead of Nintendo's. But we didn't have a Master or Megadrive at home so I didn't have the chance to play much games from Sega. I think Sonic's great :) He's the one who's got me interested in fast-paced gameplays and speed-runs. And even now I still enjoy meta-gaming Super Metroid, SotN or any RPGs.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is my personal favorite game. The original PSX version is incredible, and recently Square Enix re-released it for the PSP. Both are really nice, if you like tactical rpgs, I'd recommend it!

I disagree.

"Hey ! Listen !"
I like to think that no game is flawless. Ocarina of Time, for example, was really good but lacked Replay Value. Whereas Chrono Trigger was pretty much flawless in all regards. Link to the Past didn't have all the replay value in the world except for speed running (which I have managed to get down to like 5 minutes with exploits.) but I felt the game excelled so much in every other respect that I still think its a greater game than Chrono Trigger.

The only thing that sucked about Chrono Trigger was the story. Great battlesystem and music though.

I must say I am very dissapointed in sonic team as of late, but Sonic will always be a favorite character of mine. I was in the same boat as you with not having the rival system. It was good though because I got a Dreamcast over the N64 because of my sega bias at the time.

What was wrong with the story in Chrono Trigger?
Command & Conquer
insane RTS twitch goodness. In all RTSes since, they've increased the complexity but never the fun (Starcraft is just about as much fun!)

Final Fantasy VI
The greatest RPG ever made.

Dragon Warrior VI
The RPG that really got me into RPGs.

Sim City for the SNES
Addictive.

Knights of the Old Republic I & II
Best recent RPG ever made. Also, best Star Wars game.

Diablo II
Addictive AND best hack-n-slash RPG ever made. A deadly combo.

...and perhaps the greatest game of them all...

Super Mario Bros 3
A magical experience. You had to be there.
Super Mario World
One of my first games, and certainly my first Mario game. The greatest platformer ever, imo.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario RPG introduced me to RPGs and I fell in love with them. This is the game that kickstarted my RPG craze. Great game.

Chrono Cross
I may be in the minority, but Chrono Cross is my favorite Chrono game and possibly one of the greatest RPGs I've ever played.

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The greatest Zelda game I've ever played and one of my Top 3 games of all time. It was just delightful, weird, and awesome.

Legend of Mana
The first Mana game I ever played and among my Top 3. The sheer amount of replay value and the great storylines/characters make it one of the greatest I've ever played.

Final Fantasy IX
While FFVII was the first Final Fantasy I played, FFIX really affirmed my love for the series. I loved everything about this game.

Final Fantasy IV
IMO, the greatest of the old school FFs.

Final Fantasy XII
Great and challenging battles, massive areas, plenty of stuff to do. This is my favorite Final Fantasy post-PS1 era, and probably will remain so for a long time. It had everything I wanted in a RPG game and more.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
I'm not ashamed to say that this was my first foray into the Dragon Quest games. I'm glad it was, because it's also my favorite and the very game that made me love the DQ games. Because of this game, I have played IV, V, VI, and IX. Need to play the other ones.

Mass Effect
The first Bioware RPG I played and certainly the one that introduced me into the wider subgenre of WRPGs. Even with Mass Effect 2 released, I still love Mass Effect more and I consider it one of the greatest games I've played.

Alundra
Awesome gameplay and challenging puzzles (which actually made me want to play, unlike most puzzles which deter me) made for one hell of a great experience.
I'm in the final levels of Half Life 1.

Where you're on the black mesa with helicopters and land mines and a fortress and then you're at the side of the mesa itself. The controls become so messed up from inprescision that I'd rather be clinging to the side of a mesa getting shot at and shooting back MYSELF than to deal with the game's inprescision. Uggg.
