Hip Hop is usually given a bad rep in a lot of internet communities. Yeah, I do know that a lot of songs are "FUCK BITCHES GET MY GLOCK, BLAP BLAP BLAP, NOW GO SUCK MY COCK" and stuff, but if you dig deeper, there is a whole different kind of hip hop. The true kind.

..and it sounds a little like this.

So RMN! What are your thoughts on Hip Hop? Got any favorite songs? Post it here!

EDIT: I just want to let everyone know that Hip Hop isn't always gangster rap.. True Hip Hop is about peace and unity, despite the aggressiveness and the competitiveness you hear and see in the media.
I like glitch-hop. does that count?

I love the dance, and particularly the whole "ritual" of the dance (the successive stepping in), so I like the music I guess. I had the opportunity to watch some international contests on tv, it was really amazing (and always so sympathetic!).
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

rmn will also be judged on its open-mindedness (thinking about the slowing down of the flow of newcomers), just saying...
Yellow Magic
Could I BE any more Chandler Bing from Friends (TM)?

Love it to pieces.
Favourite artists are Aim, ShinSight Trio, Nujabes (RIP) and more recently Childish Gambino (warning: hilarious)

(Also this is the perfect topic for a shameless plug)
never listened to it, I'm more into the hardcore msuic, like heavy metal, gothic, rock, you know, that stuff. I love rock, and many pop songs(I know you'll flame me for this but I love Justin Bieber's music!), but I've never heard hip-hop, I've even listened to rap and LOVED it! So no.

I will give you a hint:

Are you calling me a smartass? Or someone with dumb questions/answers?(I did it again, did I)
I love hip hop and rap, but the demographic in for our interest is rare, shockingly enough, most white nerds can't relate to rap/hip hop thus have no interest in it. CRAZY I KNOW, RIGHT?

But I totally dig it.

EDIT: While the above sounds like a thinly veiled insult, it isn't, I'm being serious. Unless someone unfamiliar to it is willing to really open up their mind to enjoy a new genre (which no one is obligated to do, but it's always a good idea to diversify from your comfort zone), how could one expect say for example, a white person with a set of hobbies considered 'nerdy', with likewise friends, who grew up in the comfortable suburbs, to understand, much less like, something like Tupac's Thugz Mansion, which contrary to its name by the way, expresses a totally opposite sentiment about the standard 'gangsta' mindset usually found in rap, and is actually a very spiritual and introspective song.

Honestly I think the best way to break into rap is to listen to some Tupac. Not only was the man a lyrical genius, but he was, despite impressions, an incredibly intelligent and well read individual with a unique mindset about the lifestyle and environment he was surrounded by. However, in order to enjoy rap/hip hop, one has to be really open minded to break out of what they expect and what they're used to and really understand a culture outside their own, even if it's something that a lot of people just blindly assume is 'SCARY BLACK PEOPLE'.

But I could go on and on about this.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Since rap is so much about the lyrics/meaning of the lyrics, it's hard for a white boy from some rinky-dink town in the middle of the Canadian prairies to relate, you know?

But I do dig glitch-hop like Prefuse 73 (who did some collabs with Mos Def that I enjoyed) and Metal Fingers DOOM's Special Herbs instrumentals are awesome.
Hip hop came up in conversation today. I apparently don't have a very good grasp of what hip hop is exactly and actually own and enjoy some of it.

In general I think I just dislike rap music, and the rap songs that I do like I would enjoy more if there was less rapping.
@Jude: RjD2 is an amazing artist. This is one of my favorite songs from him:

@Feld: I totally agree with you. It is really hard for someone to like a genre of music that speaks about things that the listener would probably never relate to. But I do have to say that Hip Hop is so damn versatile, that there is probably atleast one song anyone could relate.
But shit, a lot of hip hop is about random stuff, so it really isn't necessary for the listener to relate. As long as they like the sound, it should be enough in my opinion.

...like the new Beastie Boys song!

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

A lot of people don't even listen pay attention to the lyrics when they listen to music. The music I like needs to have good composition and sadly most rap I hear lacks that.
