This is a winter holiday contest, so be joyful! HO HO HO!

WHAT IS THIS?
GaJoChriEd is a game making contest where you make games based on your life, you can make it as interesting as you want, as exact, as exagerated, whatever you want that will make it fit your life in your eyes AND make the game interesting! This is meant to be fun, and I will make an example project, but, what I want is for you guys to make your own lives into a game. Each holiday from now on, I will make a new journal competition for each holiday, and you don't have to do just one holiday for each, like for this month, you don't have to just do Christmas, especially if you are spanish/not christian. I hope you have fun, and here are some rules and guidelines, and I will edit for each time to show who is in this competition, so "sign up" if you want, and if you have any questions, then ask! O.K.?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENERAL GUIDELINES
-You have more than a month to submit your entries
-Must be winter holiday themed
-You have no limits other than to be at least slightly realistic, besides, you don't want people to think you are insane or crazy, it's your journal/diary made into a game, if you make it where you are killing your friends when in real life it was just a mere argument, then where will you be?
-You can use any program or any resources for your game, but if you want yours to be more realistic, you may not want Super Mario Bros. X(especially since it doesn't work on my computer), and seeing how VX and XP games are the only XP and VX things that will work on my computer, be careful with those if you are using them
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PROJECT RULES
-Must be done by the end of December, and if not, I will extend it to the end of Winter, and you can do more holidays then, otherwise, no!
-Must be a true game, and if your life is just sitting on your computer, eating potato chips all day, make THAT into a game, and if you have no life...then...what the hell are you doing here?
-You must make sure your game won't crash, or have any glitches that will ruin my game, sure the occasional harmless glitch is funny, but no...NO HARMFUL GLITCHES!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SUBMISSIONS
-Name your gamepage by the number I give you, and the name of the game, your game name can be anything you want, but unlike your gamepage, your project name should be your name/the competition name/game name
-send it to me in PM, after making a game page
-follow all rules and guidelines or your game will either barely make it to the top five, or be disqualified
FAQ
Q:Why is there a no RTP rule?
A:It was meant so no one tried to be "lazy" in the sense that they are not doing everything they can to make the game, though, in my example, I wasn't going to use custom graphics other than recolors and generated graphics...but another reason was that people, unless they are amish, then why do they have a computer, live in a modern day, technology is more advanced then before, so since the RTP was of medieval time, I tried to take out that rule to make more sense...
Q:What does the gameplay have to consist of?
A:If you want to know, it's got to be like a journal, but with an overhead view, to where you can play the character(you) in a RPG way, your next question though:
Q:Or is it just like a graphical novel telling a story?
A:Well, it would be more prefered, because it would be more like a journal, but like I said, it can be anything you want, but keep it at least slightly realistic so people who take this literally don't think you're insane.
Q:What about a game idea who's inspiration is based on a real-life event?
A:"GAME JOURNAL"...that was an easy answer.
Q:Does that count for anything, even though it might not even remotely holiday-themed?
A:You know, I was meaning for this to be a fun Christmas activity to do, and really, I was thinking of doing more for every month that contains a holiday that I would celebrate, and I could see the experiences that other people have with their holidays. But if you feel like it, I just may allow it...
Q:Supposing an affirmative answer, even if I could work with the RTP, would I be able to to complete what I'm thinking about in three weeks time? Hrmm...
A:Well, if you were to treat your game like an actual journal, edit it every day that something you think is interesting that goes on in your holiday, and with the extra amount of time I said that I would give if you weren't finished by the end of December, yeah, you should be able to finish, especially if I allowed RTP, and because of the 'complaints' I've been getting about no RTP, and yes, I know you aren't complaining, I just don't know any other word, I guess constructive criticism(?), I will aloow RTP.
Hmm! This isn't something I have expected come from you! This is great!
I am still deciding if I want to partic or not.
Why is there a no RTP rule?
Seconded.
You expect us to make a game in a month with completely custom graphics and audio? Absurd!
Why is there a no RTP rule?
Well, I was just thinking that because, well unless you're amish, that you wouldn't need those! Really, do you live in medieval times? I will get rid of that rule, and I need more people to sign up, so if I promise to get rid of the rule, would you join?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.
"No RTP" and "completely custom graphics" are two extremely different things.
"No RTP" and "completely custom graphics" are two extremely different things.
Correct, but what I believe they are saying is that they don't want rips or don't want to create their own graphics or something, so basically, by "completely custom graphics", they are telling me that they don't want anything to do with other people's graphics, their own graphics, or other game's graphics while their time is limited. So yeah, the rule may have to be changed...
I've got something in mind that might work for this, and since I only seem able to focus on game making when there are imposed deadlines hanging over my head... yeah, go ahead and sign me up.
What does the gameplay have to consist of? Or is it just like a graphical novel telling a story?
I agree that if we are to make a game about our real life, we have to use modern facesets, charsets and tilesets. But no RTP also means custom system graphics, custom backgrounds and panorama, custom battle animations, etc. And I believe these should be allowed.
I don't know if I'll sign up yet. I'll think about it.
EDIT: Discussing religion open-mindedly is always interesting. I myself do not believe in any religion, but my family does celebrate Christmas (more as a commercial holiday, like a lot of people).
OP says: You have no limits other than to be at least slightly realistic, besides, you don't want people to think you are insane or crazy, it's your journal/diary made into a game. You can make it as interesting as you want, as exact, as exagerated, whatever you want that will make it fit your life in your eyes AND make the game interesting!
So I guess you can pretty much do whatever you want for the gameplay, as long as there is a connection to your own life/journal.
Well, I think pyrodoom's main idea is good, but the contest itself needs to be revised a little:
Even if our entry's setting is the modern world, what if someone wants to craft a game around their medieval live action role playing? RTPs should therefore be allowed at least for mapping.
Holiday or Christmas themes should allow some leeway (but I think that is already the case). For instance, you could set your game during winter vacations and not mention Christmas at all, and that would be fine.
And naming our game with a number is not necessary.
Like Marrend, I probably wouldn't be able to submit a full game either, but only a demo. I'll start working on it but won't sign up just yet.
WAIT! I just thought as I looked back and edited the competition rules! I said UNLESS APPROVED, that means if I approve you using RTP, you are, allowed to use, RTP! :3 Read more carefully! -_-
Everyone knows what it says. It's a stupid rule even with the need of approval.
Oh...good thing I got rid of it then?
Don't get me wrong, this event feels like a good opportunity. Yet, I still don't think this is the right time/place to make another attempt at Oracle of Askigaga.
What's Oracle of Askigaga? And what IS the right time, all I was doing was making an interesting journalism game contest for the holidays! LOL
Be prepared then for a very mopey story.
I can take a semi break from nintendo quest. I will complete a little more of it when I want to.
This then, well all I have to say is the ending will possibly be highly fictitious.
