Oh yes, forgot to update again.

FINAL FANTASY 13-2 IS OUT! BUY, BUY, BUY IT!

My preorder delays me. :( Its a sad day.
I can't say I'm terribly excited for this, since I haven't played the first XIII. However, the original is on my list of games to play in the future. If I like it, I'll probably like this, right? And of course I won't play 13-2 first.
Actually, 13-2 fixed a lot of problems with 13.
So, if you hate 13, you won't necessarily hate 13-2. Or if you like 13 you won't necessarily like 13-2.

Final Fantasy XIII-2:

Is considerably less linear than XIII
Involves time travel
Features monster capturing and training to round out the battle party
Offers more treasure and rewards in general
Boasts a ton of sidequests
Features an annoying protagonist, sadly
Finally got it. Doing an NCU run for my first playthrough.

I friggin LOVE IT!
Also recently purchased this, and I too LOVE it. Oh man, it's so much more fun than the original, and I actually feel the desire to play it. I find it funny how so many small things can make or break an experience. Also, even though the battle system is virtually the same, I'm having a blast with it this time around.

Weird. Either way, I don't regret the buy in the least!

Since it's Black History Month in America; I'd like to point out my disappointment that this game doesn't have a token black guy.
Sazh was a pretty cool guy. Though, he's not in this game specifically.

damn you tau now I got stuck watching those video reviews of the star wars prequels :)
From the article Tau linked:
Worse, the developers are content to shove the characters into situations that have nothing to do with the core story and force them to act in artificial or contradictory ways.
...
It’s also even more melodramatic and, as the premise is extremely high concept, the character interactions are made even shallower to try and compensate.
...
“Our ultimate goal is rectifying every single point in Final Fantasy XIII that has been criticized by the users,” Toriyama -- who also directed XIII-2 -- told me at last year’s E3. “We actually took those criticisms very seriously, and you'll notice that we tackled them completely and thoroughly.”

That is also not vision.
...
It seems to be a mishmash of shallow changes and quick fixes. It keeps a great deal of what was close at hand from the last game because it’s convenient, and paints over much of it with a thin veneer.
...
Mini-games add variety to a constrained design. Capturing and using monsters in battle adds variety and control for players that the last game, which forced the player to use a set party until very close to its conclusion, lacked. Neither, however, are original ideas, nor are they significantly tweaked from existing designs. And the addition of intermittent dialogue choices and Quick Time Events seem lazily calculated to appeal to Western gaming sensibilities.

Sometimes i feel like people are trying to find very complicated and abstract ways to make FFXIII/2 look shallower than they actually are.

While I don't fundamentally disagree with the points brought up in the article, it seems like the journalist is taking things and presenting them under a bad light to make them look unappealing on purpose.

Every streamlining will be described as lazy/uninspired development process and every addition will be described as something randomly put there to attrach more players.
I dissagre with that whole article. Those "quick fixes" actually made a huge difference. Also, why does he talk about star wars every 3 seconds?

Some people are trying desperately to find faults in the game to justify their dogmatic insistence that every time a new FF comes out, it's the worst game in the series.

I just had the chance to really start playing it yesterday and I'm having a great time. The gameplay is easily some of the most fun I've had playing an RPG in a long, long time.
That guy is just...gurgh...annoying. What Sailerious said.

Continue references to outside material it's a subtle way to belittle the main subject of the discussion. Which further reinforces my impression that the journalist is consciously trying to make the game look blander and less relevant.

On top of that they'll also justify every bad design choices in the old FFs to make them look more perfect and inspired in comparsion. lol
I beat the game last night, it's way more fun than FFXIII was. Now on to the sidequests!
Midway through my NCU run. Currently stuck on the falcie Adam, ugu. I think I need better monsters.
A few hours in, nothing special for the most part, it feels kind of rushed, the "Live" option system is kind of awful(but not really important), but the battles and actually pretty cool monster system make it definitely enjoyable.
Gamefaq reviews are starting to pour in....most seem positive, luckily! I hope it isn't comprised of trolls, and the like.
