Eat a Cactus by Muffle
Length: ~15 minutes

Eat a Cactus is a game by Muffle. It is very similar to the RMN Christmas Card games and RMN Midsummer Dreams, probably because it was inspired by them - and it shows. It's a concept that I love, and am happy to see more of.

Being a comedy game, you would expect Eat a Cactus to be funny, and you'd be right. The dialogue ranges from silly to downright hilarious. kory_toombs' character in particular is the king of the lols in this game. There were lots of jokes that even managed to surpass YDS' community games. Everything from the twist ending to the welp house was really perfectly written, granted with a few spelling and punctuation errors here and there.

Except Frogge, you mean.

There isn't much gameplay. Again, it's very similar to the other community games it is inspired by where you have to complete several fetch quests. This makes a good base for the general humorous set up of the game. Besides, being quite fond of scavenger hunts myself, I enjoyed exploring the small but cute town of RMN, and for the first time, during spring season, from what the environment tells! It was quite nice looking, with how vibrant all the colors were and such. There are a few graphical inconsistencies here and there (some sprites look a little out of place) as well as a few graphical glitches (kory being in the party really broke the game, but it was worth it!)

The music was actually quite nice aswell. All of it is Kevin MacLeod from what I can tell, with one or two RTP songs thrown in. They all fit the comedic theme of the game really well. There were some issues I had with sound effects - mainly that the default rtp sound effects got on my nerves, but since there are only two battles in the game, you didn't have to hear them much, so they weren't too bad.

Hey, could've been me!

The real nitpick I had with the game was that it was a little unpolished. There were quite a few passability bugs as well as some other weirdly programmed cutscenes, but again, that wasn't a huge issue and didn't really hinder my experience much in any way.

Eat a Cactus is a game well worth playing. A lot of the jokes are easy to swallow, even if you aren't an RMN commoner (which is pretty handy. First time I played RMN Christmas Card 2007 I had no idea at all as to what the heck was going on.)
I give this game a solid four cacti out of five.

Wow, thanks Frogge for the review! I'm glad it was enjoyable. I also agree I should have polished it better, but there always seems to be a reoccurring issue where I play test a game several times and then have a friend playtest a game several times... yet when I publish it after making extra sure I've looked and fixed all bugs, people tend to find bugs that even break the game. This happened with Highschool Contracts and I just don't understand how this can continue to repeat in other games. Ahh, but anyways - I may try and fix the bugs later but for now I'm kind of pleased with the game and don't feel like really messing with it. I'm also aware my grammar could use some work, and is something I've been actually working on. ^_^ Thanks for the review.
Yeah, this game is definitely unpolished. In fact, when I was doing my Let's Play for this game I managed to stumble into a glitch that turned the party invisible. As you can imagine, this made it a royal pain in the @#$ in order to get back into Marrend's tent.

I also found a glitch that allowed me to skip over an event mentioned in the walkthrough as well.
Woah, when was this? I went over pretty much everything in that last update and polished it up. O.o I've never even heard of those glitches, do you have the updated version and if so what the heck did you do to trigger that?

EDIT: Just watched your lets play. Thanks for let's playing it - sorry for the trouble, I could have sworn I polished absolutely everything. Sorry if you didn't like it :\
