Mender’s Strife: An 8-Bit Fantasy is an old school-styled fantasy role-playing game with a deep, modern storyline and kickass music. It’s so old school, in fact, it’s 8-bit flavored. Tasty, pixelated goodness. Mmm.

At its core, Mender’s Strife is what you get when you mix a classic, exploration-focused RPG with high doses of humor, snark, fun tie-ins, and a story that isn’t afraid to tackle subjects game developers often shy away from.

Human lives are complicated, glorious messes full of lessons, controversy, and wonder. Today’s games ought to reflect that, and we believe that wholeheartedly. Our characters are diverse, and our stories embrace that diversity 100%.

The story so far...

In stories of old, the people of Raushida waged war against the elements, sealing away all remaining magic in the world.

In days of old, people waged war against each other, depending on the Mender caste to do whatever was necessary to bring soldiers back from the cusp of death.

In days of present, the elements begin to wage war against the people—by way of epidemic.

One young woman named Marah stands against the encroaching plague, struggling to control newfound magical powers that threaten to either cleanse or destroy anything they touch. Fighting internal demons regarding her mother’s role during the war as a Mender, she challenges the idea of donning the Mender shawl herself. Her younger sister, Bethel, challenges Marah’s stubbornness by keeping her in check with wit and snarky one-liners.

The two young women embark on a journey to discover the root of Marah’s powers. Along the way, they make new friends and are faced with revelations even Marah’s powers can’t overcome. Is Marah’s magic the key to halting the outbreak before it swathes the world in darkness or will her powers bring about the end of days?
