In 1924, Jeremy Hartwood, a noted artist and owner of the Louisiana mansion Derceto, has committed suicide by hanging himself. His death appears suspicious yet seems to surprise nobody, for Derceto is widely reputed to be haunted by an evil power. The case is quickly dealt with by the police and soon forgotten by the public.

You assume the role of Edward Carnby, a private investigator who is sent to explore the mansion and find a piano in the loft for an antique dealer.

-------------------------------------------

This game is a remake for RPGMaker of the original classic from 1992, which is considered the father of the survival horror genre. I have tried to be as true as possible with its story and the events that happen in the haunted Derceto mansion, although, of course, there are some changes.

I hope the people who give this a chance (either if you played the original or are new to it) like this version, which was made from the bottom of my heart and with respect.

Its been awhile, but... Version 1.1 is now available for download!!

Hello everyone!!! First of all, I'm very sorry. Its been a long time since I promised and haven't actually updated Alone in the Dark. I must say I have never forgotten, I just lacked the time to be able to add and correct some stuff I needed to do.

So now that coronavirus has struck the whole planet and I have had some more time to spend I finally finished version 1.1 of the game!!!

There is a TXT in the download section of this page where you can see the fixes and new things added to this version, along with the typical game files for those of you that don't need the RTP and those who do. I can say that one of the coolest new things added is that you can finally play as Emily Hartwood!! You will have a choice at the beginning of the game.

Hope you enjoy, and as always, feedback is much appreciated. See you around! ;)

Glad you like it. Can't wait for the review! ;)
Stumbled across a tiny issue early in. Int he room where you get the Cavalry Sabre, when you open the door that triggers the Zombie to spawn, it's possible to make the game freeze if youre holding a directional key while the scene is playing out.
I ended up making Carnby walk into the doorway, making it to the Zombie couldn't spawn and I was rendered unable to move.
I doubt it's much of an issue, but the Stop player movement script by YANFLY can
take care of little hiccups like that in no time :)
loving the game so far, but damn, I've forgotten how to progress in this game xD it's been a few years since I played the original.

You are certainly right. I'll correct it for version 1.1. :)

Happy to be of assistance. Keep up the great work! (On a side note, are you able to get past the tentacle monsters yet, or are they a demo wall?)

Yes, you can. Its a full game download.
Alrighty, I made an account just to ask this;;
I'm basically stuck...

(Spoilers)

I have no idea what to do about the amalgamation ??? creature
in the library. I have these items:

I can interact with the mechanism but nothing I have works. I have the Cthulhu book as well. Another note: I also tried both records and neither work for the dance hall puzzle.

there's also quite a number of bugs though I figure I'd just ask how to progress for the time being. I've already covered the Indian portrait with the cloth so the fact that I could get a second one was strange, and threw me off a bit too.

Also, I can't get past the monster that comes at me in the basement/cellar hallway

Similarly related; is the actually an ending added to this build of the game? I'd
just like to know before I spend another few hours trying to figure out
what to do
To acornz123:

Ok, so checking the list of items in the picture I can say you don't have the one required to trigger the mechanism in the library. You CAN do something about the creature there, but what you need lies beyond that mechanism.

Maybe I can give a hint: you do have the bow and some arrows. There is a place you can use them which is VERY VERY close to the library room.

Also, there is another record for the dance hall apart from the two you already have somewhere... and the key to finding it lies getting past the library.

As for the monster in the basement you really can't do anything about it right now, just find another way.

I take note on fixing the double Old Indian Cover bug for the next update by the way. If there is something else you find please make me know.

Finally, yes, there is an ending, of course. As I said in the previous post this is a full version.

Stuck at the library. Im trying to figure out which bookshelf i need to put the fake book in to in order to unlock the door. The Vagabond definitely makes it difficult as well.
a possible suggestion would be to make hidden items and points of interest more noticeable (like in resident evil, by adding a small flashing light etc.)

Damn. Guess I'll have to search more thoroughly^^ the vagabond definitely keeps things intense...But I think I know where I'm supposed to look

Phew...Finally made it out alive.
Amazing work! You really kept the game faithful to the original ^^
I am sad that Carnby can no longer punch out eldritch horrors, but that's just a personal issue of mine.
I did notice that the knife you find early in is basically useless though, since it can't be used as a weapon. Also, it may be helpful to make it so that most items are removed once they have no use to reduce clutter, especially since the countdown timer still ticks when you're trying to use the hook at the end.
All in all though, I loved it! Can't wait for future updates ^^
Happy that you finished and liked it. Soon version 1.1 will come out with some fixes and a couple of new things!

In which zone did it happen? Did you download the with RTP versiĆ³n?
I have never played the classic in its original form (and I'm not at all sure my PC can run anything that old). Is this a good introduction to Alone In The Dark? (The only entries in the franchise I've played were the most recent ones, which aren't that recent and were critically panned. I think I also might have seen some of the (terrible goes without saying) Uwe Boll movie.)
