A promising beginning...

The Final Fantasy Legacy game that I will review today is listed as a complete game, but this is just one chapter of a bigger story, so my rating may change someday if the full version will be released. In any case I tried it.

In any case this is not a short demo! It took me exactly one hour to complete, and I admit I did not spend all the time to explore every corner or secondary quest that will grant extra loot and items... of these aren't really long quests, just "find a key and interact with a lever" or "solve this optional puzzle", but I am happy that there were these extras besides the linear main quest.
After a prologue (that works as a sort of tutorial for the game) in which we play Marcine, a young wizard pursued by guards, we start the real game playing ad the elementalist Davin, the classic sword wielding hero that is going home accompanied by two mercenaries like him.

It's Final Fantasy! So there will be both magic and technology!

The first area a forest filled with zombies, werewolves, giant spiders and bandits... yes, I say "filled" because there are not random encounters, but enemies can be avoided or fought (and respawn if you exit and re-enter the map). Like I wrote before there is the possiblity to earn extra loot, but it's not obligatory since you already start with a good quantity of potions and other cosumables, and you will need them especially later (when you will have just a single party member!).

Then the games has a short part with some walking and dialogues, that will flesh out the story as we will meet two different characters (that will also be playable in two brief scenes... maybe they will be party members in the next chapters) that are connected to Marcine and Davin.
Third part is another longer action and combat scene, the real meat of the game: a dungeon with also some optional tasks and a puzzle.

I won't spoil the story but it's obvious that the events will see Marcine and Davin metting each other, leading to a single adventure of the two characters initially introduced in separated scenes. I admit that the story isn't particularly original, but being Final Fantasy you can expect the presence of an evil empire/corporation/organization and some guys rebelling against them. Obviously this scenario follow this classic path, establishing a world where there are warriors, mages and gunslingers, zombies, fairies and robots, but strangely NO chocobos (but horses).. uh that's weird!

It's Final Fantasy! So expect to meet Biggs and Wedge, of course!

The Verdict
Final Fantasy Legacy is a nice game, despite the great use of rtp and the average mapping I found it above the usual average games for several reasons: first the presence of many little details that makes sense once you reach some parts of the story. The balanced combat (game is easy, but the first chapter is often easy!) Then the nice music selection, themes and sounds, I really liked them!

I had only two gripes that are minot: first the game lacks of the *Arrowshot.efkefc* that made the game crash the first time (easily fixed). Then there are a couple of cutscenes during the final parts that could have been made slightly better (for character's positions and how they run) and the same goes for the maps... that are not bad at all but some parts are too simple or regular. Anyway it's nothing game breaking, instead I think that those are the parts in which the game can be improved. I mean, difficulty is balanced, the dungeon is well done, story is interesting.

It's a good introduction, a promising beginning indeed! 3.5/5!

I would take the negative and the positive and improve on it. Thanks for the review.
No problem. It's not easy to judge this since it's only an introduction, so it may be something that would go up in rating or down (I hope not!). Anyway there are some really interesting parts in this beginning, really.

That makes sense. I just wanted to do this to learn the basics of the software, so I can work on something original.
