Taking in Account - demo review

Hello!
Do you know something about accounting? Well, just asking since this is a game about an accountant. Well a dead one, to be precise! But death won't mean that he'll be able to rest! Anyway let's start from the beginning.

When death wills - Underworld Accountant Agency is a RPG Maker VX Ace game made by Fflo as a submission for the recent 2023 Event Event event, and for this reason I've to warn you that's basically a demo and not a complete games, exactly like other the other games I recently reviewed that were made for the same event.

Caswell is young accountant walking to work, when suddenly he's hit and killed by a bus! (in a very Final Destination style, if you know the movies series). Anyway our hero protagonist isn't isekaied in another world. No, he's just sent to hell! Siggggh. What's worse is that Satan is in need of accountants, so Caswell will have to work even after death... and we'll have to help him!

I'm good. Well very good... no wait, TOO GOOD! 13/10 is incredible isn't it?

Wdw-Uaa is a sort of visual novel adventure in which we have to... take some quizzes about accounting, ad least this is what happens in the demo, that's about the first two tests (rather simple I think, despite the fact that I know almost nothing about accounting). The game autosaves after each quiz and I guess they are going to become more and more difficult as the story goes on and tells us the misadventures of Caswell. A simple game indeed, but an interesting and probably an educative one, I liked this kind of experiment.

The game stands out also because it is made with assets that are rarely used, from the Old School Modern Graphics (I think I played one or two games that used this pack, not more! And I play a lot of games, you know that!), not that we can see much in this demo, anyway it has a distinct outlook. Also characters are made with Caz's chargen, already seen used in Phina (made by Caz of course). What more? Read the not-so-final verdict!

Verdict (not final!)
Being a really little demo and since the game is still being developed, I cannot give a rating or a definitive opinion, but I can say that the idea is interesting and I'd like to see what's going to happen next! The game is pretty much well done, except maybe for the score calculation, if I understood it well enough! But that's really a minor issue that can be probably fixed in the next version.
It's very short (5 minutes?) so you can give it a try. If I can say only a word to define this game it's this: "interesting"!

Funny review.

For me, it's not even a demo, it's a draft. I don't have a lot of time IRL to create something more polished during events.

Caswell is a young accountant walking to work, when suddenly he's hit and killed by a bus! (in a very Final Destination style, if you know the movies series).

I wasn't thinking to Final Destination at first when I created Caswell's death, but yeah, I agree. (The hardest was to fade the screen to black just when the bus hit the accounting nerd)

I wasn't expecting this bug but it's easy to fix anyways. Just reset the score variable to 0 before each quiz. If you get either 0 or 10 out of 10, Caswell will make a short comment on his performance.

A simple game indeed, but an interesting and probably educative one, I liked this kind of experiment.

I tried to create some edutainment game. Mission complete.

Being a really little demo and since the game is still being developed, I cannot give a rating or a definitive opinion, but I can say that the idea is interesting and I'd like to see what's going to happen next!

I think I'll turn WDW-UAA into some visual novel with Ren'Py. This draft nearly doesn't have any interaction, except with the Devil. And Ren'Py's screen language may be better to teach you accounting instead of static pictures.
nice nice, anyway it was easy even if I'm totally inept at accounting (BUT I had some uhm... exposition)- I wonder how things would go next so yeah. I'm curious!
