Pending acceptance.

As has been stated many times, old save games cannot be imported into this version, so people who played previous versions will unfortunately have to start over. But from here on I shall strive to keep old save games compatible with each new installment. And there are a few new surprises in the early chapters anyway.

I played through the entire thing twice to root out problems. But sometimes even that is not enough. ;_; If it still crashes, I am sorry. Of course, if it crashes during World Generation, you can just start the program over and chances are it won't crash the next time.

I pass on this lesson: when programming a game, never implement your database at the code level. Always make an editor that protects against typos and syntax errors. All the event triggering in this game is done with code, and sometimes it hurts. It hurts so very very much.

Just finished the demo.. HNNGGG it's so good D:

Clocked in a play time of 9hrs 11 minutes D:

That's a pretty beefy "demo"!

Now to wait for the next chapter ;_;
I like this game, I really do.. and I'm trying so hard to actually enjoy it, but I can't. I just can't. The background "rolls" for actions are, hands down, the most unfair and cheat-happy mechanics I've ever come across :( It doesn't matter what percentage chance there is of succeeding, the end result is almost a certain fail. I spent thirty rounds of pistol ammo attempting to hit an enemy and twenty seven of those were misses, even with 50% chance to hit -- on the opposing side, the enemies never miss. Ever. It's beyond rage inducing and has pretty much sucked any and all enjoyment out of the game :(

Which is also another issue I appear to have ran into; my main character started the game with a level in Wield yet the game doesn't see it.. it's always "Wield 0" and that is seriously hampering my chances to hit.

It's such a shame as the game itself has enormous potential and grabbed me immediately, the atmosphere, mechanics, ideas and gameplay are absolutely top notch - but the rolls are utterly spoiling the game for me. I've subbed anyhow, will keep a keen and very interested eye on this - so thank you! Look forward to seeing more of it =)

.... but damn if this game isn't fantastic anyhow. If it wasn't for that random roll/percentage system, I'd say this would be one of my favourite RM titles.

I swear, it's really generating those rolls based on the stated probability. Perhaps your computer is cursed.
But yeah, I too have experienced the frustration of constantly failing crap over and over. Perhaps if you fail too many times in a row you should get a free successful roll.
But thanks for playing and giving me your thoughts.

When I try to run the game, it doesn't even load. Sure, the program box pops up, but it's just a white screen, and then I get "RGSS player has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This is actually a problem with RMXP games in general for some people: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/10453/?post=344079

@Myotis and NewBlack, thanks for the reports. Many of those bugs have been fixed. As for the Wield 0 problem, the weird shotguns and hypos and the two AP point problem, I can't manage to recreate those errors. Any chance you can send me a screen/save file with them on display?
I hath shot you a PM with a save file and some rambling commentary :>

Oh and ONE MORE THING...

Potential Spoilers.

I can't for the life of me figure out any way I could have figured out which of the names was correct for the verbal password. when I was playing, my attempt at logic consisted of looking at the date of the log that mentions the passwords and thinking "oh well, this was logged in the first week of the month, and the password changes weekly, so it must be the first password of the bunch". Which was of course wrong.

So anyway I was talking to sixe on irc after finishing the demo and he told me which was the correct answer but that he got it right by luck and also had no idea which was the correct one. My only remaining theory as to where the clue is... is that the screenshot on this game page is the clue :P Like the codec frequency on the back of the MGS1 case :D

But seriously, is there any in-game clue for that? Because I either saw it and forgot, or missed it entirely.

Edit: Oh and I should probably mention that it wasnt until I was about 4-5 hours into the game that I realised "bold damage numbers = past death requirement" ._. it should probably be mentioned somewhere, probably :x
@Gibmaker

Aye, when it comes to any kind of randomised roll... I am most definitely cursed! It's insane how unlucky I am at games of chance XD Any way, the game itself is fantastic and really shows what RPG Maker can come up with in skilled hands. That UI, while slightly clunky on a keyboard and would fit perfectly on a mouse, is amazing.

I'm eagerly awaiting more SD, in the meantime I'll just keep using melee attacks to ease the frustration :D

I haven't cracked open the new demo yet (I moused over an ad on grooveshark the other day and caught the most horrible virus, so I'm still tidying up in its aftermath,) but my party in the last demo consisted of one person who cranked all his points into guns and everyone else who hit things with wrenches. The gunman was for "we need this guy taken out, round 1" situations.

Aye! I noticed! Cambridge has a Wield stat of 4 and his accuracy is 97% -- muuuuuch better (though I still fail an uncomfortable amount of times, go figure) My other two characters are just slugging away with Wrenches, since they never miss and actually do a surprisingly nice amount of damage. Even better when Derichard has enough AP to attack twice in one round.

@kumada

Yup, that's pretty much how I'm playing. It's a shame I HAVE to play that way, but it's the only counter I have for my horrendous luck :P

@Gibmaker

I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding the mechanics, but it seems there might be a bug with one of the Talents. My MC has "Psychogenic Cyber Affinity" talent, which supposedly gives +1 to Hack, yet the MC still only has the Hack 2 that she upgraded properly. I can't hack objects that require H3

~edit~

Hmm, I found out. You need to use a Psi-Amp (duh! right?) but doing so adds the "Hack +1" status but not the actual attribute, so even with that - it's still only Hack 2 and not 3.

@NewB: The solution to the puzzle is
remembering that it's June 12, hence the second week of the month, so it's whichever password he mentioned second in the log, which is randomized btw
but at least you got to see the nice ceiling turrets which aren't anywhere else yet in this release :O

@sabin: the number doesn't actually change on the character stats window, other than the Hack +1 status appearing, if that's what you're looking at. Does it let you hack level 3 objects tho?

BTW I don't know if peeps get a notice when I do it, but I've updated the download file a few times with bug fixes and stuff. :O If you're still in the middle of a playthrough you can replace your game with the new version and your save will still work.
@Gibmaker

No sir, can't hack H3 objects even with the H+1 psi power activated. Tis bizarre indeed! I'm almost to the end of Chapter 3 and already I'm dying for more! XD
Arghhh!

"Unable to find file Graphics/Characters/Players/Derichard/AFlinchFlinch.png"
"Unable to find file Graphics/Characters/Players/Cambridge/CFlinchFlinch.png"

This has only been happening since 1.0.2. I presume the Flinch animation is going to be mislabelled like this for all the characters.

~edit~

I think something went very, very wrong with 1.0.2 update, Gibmaker. All the animation files are broken - or the database that calls them - as now I'm getting a lot of random errors like above in combat, such as;

"Unable to find file Graphics/Characters/Players/Derichard/AClubClub.png"

I certainly hope I still have 1.0 downloaded somewhere :(
sd stole away my weekend. got nothing productive done. thanks a lot

game crashed when:

-attempting to smoke a cig (error was missing resource of a wav variety iirc)
-attempting to use sedate hypo whilst split into three groups (error was missing resource of some variety)

oddities:

-infinite sedate hypo
-shotgun unusable from regular attack menu
-god i cant remember anything else

sorry about the vague/shitty tech report. started game without expecting to respond to it (i havent so far for any other game on this site) so i didnt keep track of anything. will watch out for and note them in future playthroughs or future episodes

probability rolls seemed fine (shut up whiners) though just to improve player experience may i advise using a sort of uuumm 'normalizing' calculation that mitigates the chance of 'extreme' situations like getting 9 failures on 80% success but still keeps the overall probability pure (dunno the details off the top of my head but you get the idea)

for now:

save file somehow corrupted. gives error

script 'z - game_zone' line150: typeerror occured.

no implicit conversion from nil to integer

on load attempt and crashes. would like save file for future episode releases. please assess

It is true. Version 1.0.2 is broken.

BUT VERSION 1.0.3 IS NOT!@?

Can you send me this broken save file for inspection sixe?
In the end I dropped back to 1.0.0 just so I could finish it and I'm absolutely gutted it's over! The start of the game was, in my unlucky case, painful.. almost never hitting the enemy made for a frustrating time with ranged weapons. Finding another melee weapon eased the game immensely, allowing me to farm for a short while and earn enough points to increase Wield and make ranged combat more fun.

I finished all three chapters at around the 7hr mark and I've got to say; based even on this "small" demo, this is by far one of my absolute favourite RM titles I've played to date - it's up there with The Way, To The Moon, The Longing Ribbon, Starless Umbra and A Blurred Line (damn you lysander for not finishing it!! :P) I simply cannot wait for more chapters and content, I can't wait to get back into it some more. The audio is excellent, though I must admit I kept wanting to shout "Mounted!" all the time, even though the Freelancer effects really fit with the overall tone of SD. I'm loving the combat system (with Wield 3!) and the visuals are excellent, it really is quite astounding what RPGXP can produce in talented hands, though the UI - while ingenious and gorgeous - is sometimes clunky to control via the keyboard. It screams for mouse control. Other than that, I really don't have any other significant complaints or worries.

Thank you Gibmaker, the game is great and I'm eagerly awaiting more <3

Thank you my friend. Let me guess, there was a barricade in the shuttle door for some reason? THIS HAS BEEN FIXED.
Sorry I've been a little slow about this, Gibmaker, but I've finally managed to square away some time between computer infections and house-guests to take a crack at this thing.

For testing purposes, is there a version you particularly want me to play? I have the un-updated version of the latest official release, but it looks like there's been a few bug fixes implemented since then.

I understand kumada. And use v 1.0.4, the one that's currently set as the game's download.
