Blue is the Warmest Blogger

Lately I've been thinking a lot about subject matter. Are certain subjects too beyond the pale for 2d rpg videogames? You don't see stories about sexuality or mental health in Final Fantasy really. would it be interesting? would it reach people? would it be melodramatic and silly? i don't know. but these are important subjects to me and it would feel unnatural not to explore them in this game.

I've been very tired and depressed lately. both my creativy and energy have pretty much cratered this past month. writing one line of dialogue is enough to make me go "fuck this i need to go outside." that being the case i doubt i'll have the demo out by the May deadline i set for myself a few months ago. There is sooo much to do. But, I know how this trashfire brain of mine works. This will all pass! Eventually i'll rediscover my love for this thing and i'll be back on the machine.

in brighter news I finished a new area a little while ago. it's a refugee caravan made up of kids and old folks-- basically people who weren't drafted into the Aternellan army. You come here during the beginning of Capitulo 1, in a segment where you control Leigh and are traipsing through the countryside with Akiva and Konstantin. It's the first map in the game where the player sees actual sunshine and I think it looks really pretty. It's also a nice change of pace from all the horribleness that happens at the end of the prologue, so there's that too.

i'm a big fan of this grumpy little girl who sells you stuff at a 200% markup. she's great!

That is all. good day.

I often think about subject matter in video games as well. I think all too regularly people think of video games, especially RPGs and especially 2D/pixel games, as being lighthearted romps that don't touch on 'darker' subject matter, save for a couple of character deaths. I would love to see more games that focus on sexuality and mental health. The more the better! I guess the more it's put out there in a palatable form, like a video game, the more normal it will become.

Anywho, it's good to see you working on this still———and also good to see you looking after yourself first. :)
I remembered about Linus again! I always check for news regarding Linus every few months, so it was about that time again XD.

(Spoilers for FF7) Well, I'd argue that Final Fantasy games have attempted to address more serious issues. Cloud suffers from PTSD, and the issue gets expanded on when players find out the truth about how Cloud is not an actual member of SOLDIER.

In any case, I'm a pretty simple person. The main reason why Linus appeals to me is simple: it has a good story (or at least, potential to be a good story from the snippets I've seen so far). Linus stood out to me because of how developed the world and its characters are. It doesn't feel like a 2d game. The world of Linus feels very much real. When I play the demo, it's like I'm watching actual people rather than 2d characters. I can't claim the same for a lot of the other games I've played (even the AAA games). While those games can be fun (yeah, I'm the chosen hero of the world!!), sometimes, it feels like the people who developed the game have never tried to look at other people. There's something really refreshing about Linus.

You certainly have a gift for writing, and regardless of the themes/subjects you choose to include, I'm sure it'll reach people.

The scenery is beautiful! If I remember correctly, the backgrounds in the last demo had much darker hues, so perhaps this will be a more lighthearted chapter? :)

Leigh is a great name!
and these are some exciting questions. My answer is definitely yes. I get bored very quickly with an usual heroic epic. Gimme all the travesty and tramps you got.
These are some adorable screenshots too.
