You may want to consider using a flat ceiling chip for the inside.

Any of those in the RMVX RTP? I haven't seen anything myself that works particularly well, though I honestly haven't been the best looker in the world either.

normally the tile that serves as the top of whatever wall tile you are using works best

Ah yes, those are indeed what I tend to use. Castles/caves and such usually turn out the best. Town buildings are more or less hit or miss.
