It's not front-view like your typical Dragon Quest, its a slightly different twist. This game will be "like" Dragon Quest. The skill names, equipment names, monsters, and some of the mecahnics will be very similar. If you've played the Dragon Quests before they were Squeenixed you'll recognize most of them.
... Part of Dragon Quest's mechanics is to have a first-person perspective view in battles. Also, if you really want to consider this a Dragon Quest fangame, then why did you actually give your character a name? Traditionally, Dragon Quest has had a nameless hero which you get to name and choose the gender of (in later games). Even in games like Dragon Quest 3, you could aslo determine your personality. I fail to see how your game is related to Dragon Quest in any way.

I didn't look up the definition of fan game before I made this, I really didn't think it had to be an exact clone. The reason I call it a fan game is because I'm a Dragon Quest fan for one and it will be very similar in many aspects. All the monster sprites, monster names, music, most sound effects, equipment, item, and skill names (pre-Square-Enix), the cliche story aspect, the lower stat numbers, etc. is all there, any one who has played a Dragon Quest will at least get the idea that it is mostly based on Dragon Quest. Since you're not the first one who has commented on me calling it a fan-game, I'll probably change the topic description a bit to reflect that it will be SIMILAR but not a true fan-game.

Who cares, I actually kinda like this battle screenshot. Reminds me of Phantasy Star 2 somewhat if you ignore the fact that it's side-view.
If you'd like, I have a Japanese game called Dragon Fantasy (Not like the ones posted here,) which contains around 150 modified side view early Dragon Quest enemies. They're of the Final Fantasy style for battle, but 100% Dragon Quest in appearance. All the fan favorites were re sprited just for the battle system change.
Of course, you'd have to come out of hiatus to work on your game. x.x
