Looking at things a bit differently.

Cosplay Crisis is a fangame, pure and simple. It tells the story of six people drawn together through past lives and occurrences fighting to keep their identity and restore their world to the way it was.
I have played and read thoroughly on all three games this world derives from. I have heard the arguments for liking them and the arguments for disliking them, especially story-line wise. And, usually, I agree.
And thus, CC becomes something more; a counter argument of sorts. It retains a similar base plot but fixes all the stupid plot holes and weirdness. For example, yes, Levi, Aio, Lulu, and a number of others grew up in an orphanage together. But there isn't any GF's because of Materia's existence, so they all remember each other. Another example is the mysterious 'disappearance' of Kumo's mother and the non-existence of his father. His mother, instead, died of cancer the week Kumo returned to Miehlebin 'five years ago'. Another reason he hates Arithial so much is because he never got to give her a proper burial.
And his father? Well, he gets mentioned too. Plot spoilers there though ;). But it all connects up.

One of my favourite scenes in FF9 was 'You're Not Alone', but I was saddened when they didn't elaborate into Zidane's despair. In fact, they barely elaborated at all on the point. I'm left with a multitude of questions; why was that even in the game? Could Zidane use magic someday? Etc.
It was a MAJOR character plot point and ten minutes later Zidane had forgotten pretty much the whole thing. WHAT. Pissed off Ziddy fan here. >:[

So there's a major, optional plot quest where you can find out more about Kumo's little brother, Zane, if you get him that is. And the thing is that it all fits. You could not possibly imagine the amount of effort I have put in to try and erase as many plot holes as possible. I have even gone through the trouble of making sure that if there ever was to be a sequel (NEVERRR) all the plot points are there, Geo-Stigma could exist, etc.
(There will never be a sequel because it'd enter the realm of guesswork. I'm trying my best to avoid that.)

A major plot hole some RPG's is that party members join inexplicably. Not here. Everyone has met someone else at some point, including non party members:
Shadz and Kyer are friends; Lulu and Kyer are sisters.
Levi met Shadz and Kyer on the day he graduated to being a Sapling.
Lulu and Levi grew up in the orphanage.
Kumo and Levi first met at the very same orphanage.
Kumo and Miri share a home town.
Levi and Miri became friends in high school.
Kyer and Miri are both LANDSLIDE members, but haven't met directly.
Zane met Lulu and Levi at the orphanage with his brother
Zane is kidnapping Jazz at her request (short for Jacinth)
Jazz is the youngest child of the President of Omniax and Rufus's sister
Her mother, Veridice, is the cousin of Iphalna
Iphalna is the mother of Air
Kumo meets Air after the Reactor mission
blah blah blah.

The game ends when the game ends, but you can still explore everywhere in the world even if you're at the last dungeon. The end is the end imho, it's the end of the story and the reason you're travelling in the first place, I didn't like that about FF13. Especially with how it ended (it made no sense)

And it wouldn't make sense in CC either...
But like in the end everyone will be going Are you ready to fight him like a random NPC and all that.

The characters choose to fight the final fight for their own reasons. They don't have to fight them plot wise. But they all know if they don't stop them then and there, the world was going to suffer for it; whether it be a gigantic Meteor or time compression. They don't want to have to bear the guilt of knowing they let that happen by just walking away from the enemy's misdeeds. The main villains have hurt most, if not all, characters emotionally and a couple of them physically. It's vengeance for all the people who died because of the C-Virus, it's revenge for their suffering and loss of identity, it's prevention instead of having to find a cure in the future. The final fight is the final fight for a reason; it's the conclusion, the ending. Books don't let you free roam at the end. I look at RPG's, especially JRPG styled ones, as interactive books. The end is the end.
When the credits roll you're meant to have a feeling of satisfaction 'I just completed this'.

What the hell is the point of having a final damn fight if you can continue playing afterwards? No. That was the biggest thing I -hated- about Final Fantasy XIII and why I haven't bothered to finish it yet. I play games for stories. I make games for stories. Gameplay should be good, yes, but it all should be covered before the final fight. Cosplay Crisis's story is all covered before the final fight. If you want to just finish it go ahead, but most, if not all sidequests are story-related. You don't have to do them, but you can if you want too.
All of my games, all my stories, when it comes to the final confrontation, the ending, it is the ending. Conclusive.

I've covered my reasons. *cough*.

I just think that endings are bad.

I've always hated endings, even if there's a good ending i can't seem to like it.
