"Everyone has to take a leap of faith sometime. But it is on you to decide from what height."
- Vertalos

-Overview-

Carpe Diem: Episode One is the first episode in a planned trilogy of games telling the story of Skylar and his journey of self discovery, friendship, destiny and growing up. It's a story of a hero held up by the people around him and his internal struggles to accept something more than an average life. Episode One sets the stage for a vast narrative with a deep cast of characters that make up the lore of the world.

Episode One, titled 'The Living Flame' will cover 12 chapters with a total of 25-30 hours of gameplay. If you've played many classic JRPG's, you can expect much of the same in terms of gameplay, however there are a few simple systems in it to help it feel a little more fresh.

What others have said...

Overall, it's a good game for those who like cutscenes and probably a plague to those who prefer non-stop action. You have been warned and recommended.

Good game. I really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work!

I'm anxiously awaiting to play more and this one of the better Rpgmaker games out there and definitely one of the best I've played from Charas.

Looking for testers

Hello everyone,

Been quite a while, I'm looking for people who have time to beta test for bugs, glitches and grammatical errors. If anyone has time is appreciate the help. I also need some recommendations for where I can host the game file to send out.

Thanks to anyone who is available!

Hm...Bersius' story sounds a LOT like Anakin Skywalker's...
Haha yeah a little just when his mom gets kidnapped and he kills everyone.
Is this still coming out tomorrow? If so, then I freaking stoked.
I can't wait for the demo... The title screen is freaking awesome! And it looks really good, gameplay wise!

This game's mapping is nice. Those shop/inner screenshots have inspired me to redo some of my own, actually. Your towns are better mapped than your environments, in my honest opinion; however, it's all above average. I'll check this out as soon as possible!

The first boss is unwinnable. Soon after it begins, all attacks deal zero damage. Skills also deal less damage than physical attacks against it. Maybe I'm just unlucky?
Thanks for the comment, Deckiller! I'll answer your last question via your message :P
The intro is so slow and horrible. Analyzation is the ugliest word known to man. The song is not particularly good. The dialog moves way too slowly and everybody is talking about things I have no reason to care about. Just a heads up, long/bad intro is an automatic alt+F4 for a lot of people(myself usually included). I'd look into changing it

Also, for the love of god, please let me scroll through the damn textboxes myself. Nothing worse than having arbitrarily slow textboxes. Point is that you don't know how fast/slow I read. Your events don't require a set text speed either. It's just frustrating. This is the point where I gave up. The hero was going on endlessly(because he was talking so slowly, not because he was talking too much), some carriage was going up the road, and I was like "Screw it." I hadn't even gotten to play yet, and I already wanted to shoot myself. I might try again on a computer where I have rm2003 installed, so I can test play and shift my way through the dialog, but as it is, it just makes me want to rage quit.

That being said, the graphics looked cohesive, the mapping was good, the screens on this site look great. Also, the story sounds like it could be interesting, and what dialog I saw was well-written. It looks like it could be a solid game, but I just don't have any interest in spending my life waiting after that intro to find out.

Dude if you don't want to play the game, then don't. OBVIOUSLY you're not going to know whats going on in the intro, that's why it's called an introduction. If you're not going to give the game a chance then obviously you're not going to enjoy it. The text speed won't change, because that's how my game is set up. It's a slower pace so if you're not up to it then you don't have to play it.
I think if you really want to see if you like the game or not, at least play a little past the intro.

I think the slow pacing is a matter of preference. I generally don't like such pacing, but I can tolerate it if everything else is good (I made it like 20 hours into War of Two Worlds, after all). So far, so good. I'll post a review of the demo when I'm done.

For me the text speed is acceptable. The worst extreme is when it autoscrolls so quickly that you don't even get a chance to read it at all. Many players are probably used to just gloss over the text and dialogue. They probably just want to get to fight as soon as they can.

Although I do agree that the intro does drag on a little too long and that analyzation is an awful sounding word (especially for those with a twisted mind!), but I can deal with it. It's a shame that somebody won't give themselves the chance to try to actually play the game based on something like slow text.
For the record, I appreciate Linkforce's right to have the game "feel" the way he wants it to - slow text and all. I also don't pretend that I gave it a fair shot. However, I just saw myself getting too frustrated with the issue to really play and enjoy. Maybe at some other time, I'll feel more forgiving and give it a fair shot. I do genuinely mean it when I say the game looks good. I also didn't say it to be mean. I just wanted him to understand where he lost at least one player - I feel like when I play a demo, it's sort of my job to point out if something significant just killed it for me, no matter how arbitrary, at least so the developer knows.

Making good progress. Just finished Chapter 1.
deckiller: Thanks a lot man! I hope you're ling the demo!

edchuy: I agree 100% with what you said that people usually skip the text as fast as possible just to fight the enemy. That's a big reason why I slowed down my text. I want the player to actually read and take in what is being said throughout the game. ......I think I'll change analyzation to analysis xD

fredo: I say just try it again when you're ready. But when you play it just know that you should be fully immersed in it, or as much as possible.

I actually managed to finish the demo just now! Since this episode covers all 4 chapters, then shouldn't your game be described as a complete game? I would like to write a review of it, once I have played it again.

Also, I wanted to ask whether it is actually possible to get the key for the room at the inn of the last town to get the treasure. I know you need to get a certain somebody out of the way to get the key, but for that you need an item, which you are supposed to trade for another another one you need to get. It is this last thing I'm supposed to get first that I don't see how you can get. I hope it's not one of those teaser treasures ...
Wow, I'm surprised you finished it so fast! Um, the game is a demo right now because the game's not 4 chaptres long, lol it's going to be around 12.

And you can get that chest haha. Well the last person you can talk to to get it is that guy who needs a lamp to read in the dark.....soo.....go find a lamp lol

But episode 1 is finished, right?

I actually got the lamp. The thing I seem to be missing is how to get the letter. Perhaps you can give me a hint?
Lol nooo episode 1 is 12 chapters long. And it's not done yet you're playing pretty much everything I've made so far.

As for the lamp, you gave it to the guy and in return you gave you that magic ball. Look for someone who needs it....possibly the person with the letter? lol :P
