If you're wondering, I actually pixel-art the normal maps on top of the regular brick texture by hand. I typed in some common normal values and went from there.

Normal maps define the angle of each pixel so I can draw the bricks' relief like this (as opposed to using a modeling tool to bake them or the nVidia plugin for Photoshop). Kind of fun actually, not as hard as you think once you made your color palette of normals.

I never knew what they were called before. But I was talking to a friend a while back and I was saying.

"The 90's were about increasing poly counts, the 00's were a decade all about the lighting effects"

And THIS is what I mean by "the lighting effects" (amonst other things). Light reactive texture maps? Almost.

Actually the 00s were all about moar bloom.
