The Room: Pandemonium in the Penthouse is a parody of a game titled The Room, made for a minor event where a group of people made, well, parodies. It was also a deliberate attempt to get into VX and make something. So, how did it turn out?
It's short, it's incredibly linear, and none of the "get item x and use it in place y" gameplay is that difficult or engaging. It's a point-and-click adventure game without the adventure, but that doesn't mean the game can't have any charm! In fact, the game has two good features: its charm, and its pretties.
The game is made using, I believe, Theodore chips and edits resized for VX. They look good, especially when you're taken to other dimensions/time periods/something (it doesn't make much sense, but I don't think it was meant to). The futuristic room is cool, as are the little scenes with the girl in the bathroom.
By focusing on something very simple, The Room is fairly entertaining due to how stupid and random it is. The game is based on surprisingly well-played poop jokes. Despite the entertainment value, the gameplay itself is very bare and it is not a terrific game. And, as bugs and some inconsistencies show, it was hastily thrown together.
If you want to entertain your self for a few minutes, download this game and experience what it's like to wake up with a hangover in a fancy hotel. If you don't like point-and-click adventure games or potty humor, stay away.
