Tales of Arcadia is back!

For reals this time. I mean it. I am finishing this damn game if it kills me, which it might. Having recently bought the latest RPG Maker, I have decided to revisit this five-year old project that I first started way back when VX was all the hype. Utilizing the new engine, I'll be making drastic changes to the core mechanics and features of Tales of Arcadia but will be keeping with what was, hopefully, its most promising point: the story. I'm absolutely in love with the story, the way it plays out in my head, the dynamic between the two leads, and everything else. Anyway, to wrap this up, I just wanted to let all of my subscribers know that this really is happening this time. I'll have more news in the coming weeks, along with some screenshots and an updated About page.

Something new

Hello,

I've been working on something new. It's called "Laventhrope" and centers around an experienced warrior in charge of the King of Laventhrope's Special Forces. I'm going for a more "you're in charge right away" approach, and your decisions will shape the situation within the kingdom. So far, you can decide whether or not a merchant's cousin in ransomed, a bridge is repaired (opening up new exploring opportunities), a scholar has permission to explore ancient elven ruins, a boy becomes a squire, a noble's assets are protected, and which position to reinforce on the field where a battle with goblins is taking place. You'll see the rewards and/or consequences of these decisions as you explore the world freely.

But making choices isn't the only thing you do as this experienced warrior. You can openly explore the world map, entering old forests, damp caves, bustling towns, elven ruins, and more. Follow a narrative filled with political intrigue, war, love, and betrayal. All that stuff that makes a good drama, well, good. Complete side-quests that offer meaningful rewards, make big decisions, and decide who you become on your journey to uncovering an assassination plot. Be weary, however. People can be deceptive, and each noble has his/her own agenda. While they may be your friend today, tomorrow could change everything.

I'll be creating a game profile page soon.

Happy Holidays, RMN

I don't know what else to do

So Tales of Arcadia is gone. I had put a lot of work into the relaunch but all of that was for nothing. My PC got a nasty virus and kept giving me the blue screen. One day, I turned it off and then it never turned back on. I had to throw it out and invest in a new one.

What does this mean for Tales of Arcadia ultimately? Well, I don't know. My dedication and will to start over after already doing that twice is pretty much non-existent. I'm truly sorry, but for now, the game is cancelled. However, I have decided to start a new project. My drive for game making isn't gone, just my drive to restart ToA for a third time.

Again, I'm very sorry to everyone who followed the game's long up and down production cycle. All of the feedback and comments kept me motivated. Merry Christmas, or if that's not your thing, Happy Holidays.

Patch b0.1

Hello RMN,

I've put together a list of changes coming in the beta 0.1 patch, scheduled for release in the next few days.

Changelog:
- Revamped prologue (optional to play through)
- Re-balanced many of the battles
* Enemies now use skills and the first two boss fights are scripted:
- Re-vamped "Rejuvenate":
* Changed from 45% HP to 35% HP
* Now uses 6 MP
- Dialogue improvements:
* Many suggestions were made that Rolf become more chatty during conversations; this is now a thing
* Quest stages now update appropriately
- Mapping tweaks:
* Many tweaks have been made to the maps, including the locations of chests and enemy positioning
- New weapons, armors, and potions:
* Over a dozen new tier II weapons have been added to the merchant in Aldwind; prices might still be high
* Six new armor sets (head, torso, feet) have been added; these include: leather, iron, steel, elven, and dragnonscale; dragonscale is very rare to find
* A range of potions have been revamoed, from simple health poultices to those that cure ailments like Poison, Blind, and Paralysis
- All RTP music has been replaced with pieces acquired with permission
- Several cut-scenes have been revamped to eliminate unnecessary switches, variables, event commands, etc.
- Additional side-quests have been added (4)
- One new dungeon (the Highlands)
- Several new enemies, including different types of slimes, plants, skeletons, and bandits--they have been extensively balanced and use their own skills in combat
- Additional tweaks here and there

Overall, I think this was a successful upgrade for the game. I fixed nearly every bug I could find and of course all the bugs pointed out by others. IF any remain, I will scream. Anyway, expect this patch to be available REALLY soon. I just need to do a few more things. Shouldn't take longer than a day, but I don't want to rush it out.

P.S.
So I don't give away too much of the story, I haven't added much in terms of one. The demo still ends right before the player arrives in Sargoth. So I guess this could be considered a technical/gameplay demo, showcasing what the game has to offer mechanics wise, instead of story wise. Either way, hope you enjoy.

Miscellaneous

Not a Poll

With the first major update to the game's demo almost here, what's the one thing you would change about Tales of Arcadia? It could be the protagonists' names, the kingdom names, the music used, anything. The point of me doing this is to see what you subscribers dislike the most about the game, and to see if there's anyway I could change/improve it.

Progress Report

A Patch Delayed

One woman stood alone... against a horde of bugs. And she broke the game.

But it's fixable with a little more work on my end. Basically, after making the changes recommended to me via the wonderful feedback provided, it somehow caused a few more problems and inconsistencies. I found a few more places where "Bearclaw" was still being used instead of "Rolf," and I don't want to rush out the patch like I did the demo. Anyway, that's pretty much where I stand right now. A lot has been fixed, but I feel more improvement is necessary before I release the patch. As always, if you have played the demo and feel you have something to comment, please do. Feedback is appreciated.

Oh and also, I have re-done the prologue and made it optional to play through. If you choose no, you should still get the gist of what happened previous to the heroes arriving in Yorkshire, but it could still answer a lot of questions and you could see it instead of hearing about it from NPCs.

Demo Feedback

So after gathering some feedback on the demo, things are obvious that it was rushed when it should not have been. I've spent the last few days working on a patch that will be released on the 17th of this month. It'll fix all of the known bugs and glitches present in the demo. As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated and will help me to further improve the game. Thanks much. =)

Demo Available

The new demo is now up and available for download. Please report any bugs, glitches, or frustrations, and I'll gladly look into them.

Demo Announcement

So as promised I will be releasing a new and improved demo sometime in the near future. I don't want to put an official release date out there out of fear that I won't meet that date, but it's coming and it's coming sooner than you might think.

As for what to expect from the demo, I can say that it's roughly 30 minutes to an hour long depending on how much optional content you complete. You visit two towns in the demo, meet the entire cast (thus far), and can explore an entirely optional dungeon that includes a boss at the end. There are no random encounters, there are plenty of items to find, there's some exploring to do, and there are a few more lucrative side-quests available in the second town.

Once the demo is released, I'd love for you guys to provide any feedback you can, whether it's positive or not. In fact, negative feedback would help me even more seeing as it'll let me know what's wrong with the game. But there's also nothing wrong with positive feedback, because it'll motivate me further. Anyway, thanks for supporting this game and congratulations to my 50th subscriber. =)
