Commercial Quality Demo! (Intro Demo Review) Revised

Intro:
Even though it wasn't even an official demo, this game demo still didn't fail to amuse me. It was flat out marvelous!
Now on with the real review.
Graphics:

This is the title screen. My favorite shade of blue, plus it was animated! I stared at it for at least 5 minutes, at least! Though, there is a small bug in this title screen, I know you know that by now, Hanzo.

Actor/NPC Sprites:
Good:
A brilliant collage of different character sprites, Hanzo's own sprites, Kaduki's,and even some nice RTP edits I think.
Not So Good:
The graphics weren't terrible or anything.(The opposite.) The maybe overused red hair guy for the main character didn't impress me too much, but nothing much to improve here.

Battle:
Good:
Those sprites looked great in battle, (I liked Celina's :3)and I wouldn't say that graphically they would need more improvement. Also, the battlebacks are highly detailed! They look impressive.
Not So Good: Nothing much to improve graphically during battle.

Mapping:
Good: The mapping was highly detailed, and it was pleasant looking through some of the maps. The trees stood out, and looked extremely neat.
Not So Good: A little more interaction with the map would be nice, it to me would add a great effect to the game. Though this is an Introduction demo, a little example of any possible future map interaction would be a nice thing.

Menu Graphics:
Good: The main menu was really nice, the colors and font colors matched everything nicely. It looked pretty professional and it didn't look like it took you 2 minutes to get it all together, so nice!
Bad:(Yes, BAD!) BUG REPORT:
FONT. I deleted the Intro demo from my PC once I first made the review. I didn't need it anymore. The font was fine and all of that. But now, I am getting ticked off. In the Intro demo you have out now, I am having problems with. This font you have is installed on my computer, I can assure you that, but it doesn't work! No words appear or anything! A major fail! This makes the game basically unplayable.
You lose a point for that one mister. That is just horrid. I am sure you have the wrong font in your game, I am looking at my folder, and doesn't just say "Segoe UI",(which is what I am guessing you specified.) it says "Segoe UI Semibold", which I am sure would cause this problem. Not everyone has Vista. So now, it was fixed by downloading that font. I would fix that.

Overall Graphics Score: 4/5
Good! It isn't going to give me a seizure looking at it, the colors are balanced, and everything is pretty well. Though the My eyes wanted to jump into the screen. :) The font thing was annoying.

Audio:
Good:
High quality music, it all was custom, though I am not sure if he owns them or not, no RTP things, or overused soundtracks. Sound effects were pleasant and suited the game perfectly.
Not So Good:
Nothing to bad about the audio, besides in my taste of music.

Audio Score: 5/5

Gameplay:
Battles:
Good:
Battles were neat. It is similar to the Takentai Sideview I think, but it's called the Lifeline Battle System, and it is gorgeous. I am still learning to understand it, but it isn't too hard.
I love how the actors made sounds when they attack, get hit and stuff like that. It adds even more flavor to the game. The first battle is a tutorial, so you get to start understanding it right away. You enter battle's in the Intro demo so far by going up to the monsters, because apparently they are passive, and pressing ENTER or Z or whatever you personally use.
Not So Good:
A little more explanation on what the lines mean? I mean what happens if it is yellow? Or purple? Stuff like that would be appreciated.

Menu:
Good: The main menu was graphically amazing! In the menu, you can do normal stuff, like look at your status, equipment, inventory, etc. But it's all upgraded. The equipment menu for example is astonishing. When you equip a sword, it goes onto the your weapon arm(forgot what it was called) and appears on the characters picture. The menu is easy to browse through, and quite nice and convenient.

Not So Good: Menu doesn't need to much improvement to me. It works fine, looks good, and isn't trying to discover Atlantis every time you use it.

Misc:
Movement was nice, it seemed to scroll to the controllable character, and it was kind of cool. Concepts of the maps were nice. It was pretty realistic to me. It looked like a professionally done home, one people can actually inhabit.

Gameplay Score: 5/5
I would buy this game at completion, the game play is good to me.
Dialogue:
Good:
The dialogue is nice. It has humor, drama, etc.
I love how the message displays near the actor or NPC who is speaking, a nice feature to the game. The actors and NPC's have personalities that are defined early in the game, which is nice!
Not So Good:
This is just an intro demo, not even the official one, so it is kind of hard to understand the story line. What I have seemed to get from it so far, is that Vance is the last Vandeleir? Then for the beginning of the game, you a in a memory of some sort, until your done with that and you are no longer in the memory. I dunno, it's confusing to me in a way. Also, a couple of grammar errors were in there, just to let you know.
Dialogue Score: 4.5/5
I give a 4 out of 5 for the dialogue score.

This is a rather small review, and my first review, I have been keeping for this game. But this is only the intro demo so...
Anyway: Overall Score: 4
This game is near-commercial quality. The graphics really help on that, the all custom systems are revolutionary. The bigger scaled problems are the FONT, and a smaller would be the slightly confusing dialogue. This game, even if it doesn't go commercial, is still obviously going to be a game to remember.
I changed the "official" rating to no stars. Thanks KREAD, it is only a tech demo.
But I did leave all of what I would have rated it.

this review is indeed pretty asinine. but i guess it is another example of how rmn reviews are like amazon reviews, they're only rejected if the author heils hitler or threatens to blow up post office 03477. at least adon didn't give it 5/5 based on how fast the download was or something.

Nearly 40% of all reviews submitted to this site are rejected and never see the light of day on rpgmaker.net. The moderation results are even more stringent for games, where only 37% of submissions ever are accepted. Both of those statistics include times that a submission was originally denied for various reasons before being fixed and ultimately accepted -- making the initial approval rate even less. To suggest that everything that tries to come through the gates is accepted is an opinion that, well, isn't based on facts at all.

What's the big deal about expecting good writing in a review so it does not reflect our site as one of bad content?

I agree with this to an extent. However, what do you think reflects worse on the site -- that there is bad user-created content that exists along with the good, or that anytime a newer user submits content that maybe isn't up to snuff they are mocked, ridiculed and ran off with pitchforks?

For a personal example, there was a new rpgmaker.net user that joined a few months ago that was pretty tenured in another community. They submitted their game here it looked pretty original and quality-- I was following it. They abruptly quit two months later and when I asked them about it, they stated it was because of this type of negativity in the community that they decided to leave and go somewhere more positive.

This kind of stuff happens a lot and it's just not new people that it puts off. I know it's easier to complain about something than try to be helpful, but sometimes we let that get out of hand.
Alright..

1st of all, this review has gotten more flak then I had thought possible. Was it lacking? Possibly. But remember he was writing a review based on what he had to review from. as many of you said, this is simply a tech demo. Hard to judge the story or character development based on whats there right now. He(or his review) doesn't deserve to be called asinine. I'm all for criticism don't get me wrong. I just perfer it be constructive.

2ndly, wanting to "keep the quality of matter posted on this site" as a goal is NOT going to be accomplished this way. In fact I think it's doing the opposite.

P.S. Space_Monkey I thank you for being a voice of reason, that is, up until your final post. Did it need to be said? Perhaps, in that manner? not so sure, but I understand the frustration. And Solitayre, I agree completely and again, thank you.

Yeah, I am all for higher standards and quality on this site but people really need to chill out. Discouraging people from ever wanting to submit anything ever again because you disagree with them is not how this community is going to move forward.

This review is full of praise because it's clear he really enjoyed the game. Should he not be allowed to express that opinion because others disagree with it? That's nonsense.

Are there weaknesses in this review? Sure. But you should be telling Adon how to address those weaknesses in future reviews, not telling him the review is garbage and pressuring him into changing his score.

Adon, keep working on your reviews. With some practice, you could be pretty good at it.
@content police: you're all dickheads.

@adon: stop being a pussy, tell them to go fuck themselves, and put the godamn 4.5 back in the ratings. it passed the queu, it was good enough for the admin, and everyone else will always criticize everything they can anyway. trying to raise the site to higher standards is just a bullshit excuse that people hide behind when they're being assholes and dumping their anger on others. you got called asinine and retarded (or your review did) and this review didn't deserve it.

Huge Post

Thanks for that. Now I know not to make reviews sound like that. I can't really describe it too much, well because I don't know enough to give you a 1000 page essay on it. Only Hanzo and Dev know all about it right now, I am sure.

Your gameplay category is just a rehash of the aesthetic categories.

Sure, it's nice that the menu looked good and the battlers made sounds, but that doesn't tell us anything real about the battle system.

Don't you care about substance at all?

"What do you think about my body?"

"SO hot!"

"What do you think about my face?"

"SO hot!"

"What do you think about my personality?"

"SO hot!"

"What do you think about my family?"

"SO hot!

"What do you think about my career as a dental hygenist?"

"SO hot!"

And so on.

EDIT:

Well I posted that without reading the thread and now that I see I am merely adding my voice to the choir I feel compelled to add:

Don't be too discouraged, Adon. It is a far, far better thing to submit a review than not!

Thanks for the appreciation on making a review Even I myself don't consider this as a Demo, This is to show that the game is not dead and it is not a hoax, hence this is an Old Project File and Outdated.

It's really good that it stays N/A for the moment until I release something that people can really write a review with, So thanks for cleaning the ratings.

End of Debate.

Yay! It must be soooo much better by now, I am so excited! :D
I can understand why you have put one out, thanks for keeping the community updated!

Amazing.

I copy and pasted that into a txt document. I agree generally with that scale.
I think I am good giving this game a 4.5 and if it's based of that scale, I support it even more. But for a tech demo, yeah we'll keep it down to N/A

Tech demo or not, Adon is allowed to give this a glowing review rating if he feels it deserves it. RMN says that he can, anyway. I might not agree with giving demos/incomplete games a rating, but whatever. As for giving this five stars, I have my own definitions of what star ratings mean:

Side note on ratings (since there is/was/will be somewhat of a spate on what rating means what between each user):
1/5 -> Terrible. Forget about hitting an audience. The game is so bug-ridden, or otherwise unplayable, that what entertainment can be found in the game has a hard time coming to the surface.

2/5 -> Bad but playable. I had a poor experience with the game. When played by a player the game actually caters to, it would serve it's purpose.

3/5 -> Average. A solid experience, but snags somewhere along the line cause it to be held back from being "good".

4/5 -> Good. I enjoyed the experience, and have no qualms supporting it if was considered for a featured game (if it wasn't featured already).

5/5 -> Excellent. Among the paragons of gaming experiences, and instant feature material in my humble opinion (if it wasn't featured already).

*Edit: Is this going to turn into another debate on ratings and reviews? I hope not...

What dezz said.

Well naturally reviewing is difficult for me. Don't worry.
*hides under a rock a darken passes by*
You don't have to give up reviewing because everyone is criticising your first review. Simply read other reviews and learn from them - take ideas from them - and try again. That's what I've been doing, and it helps a lot. If this was your first review then this is what is to be expected at least half the time of the first one as you have no real experience on reviews, whereas if you were to do a review after this one you'd be better due to the criticism you have received from writing this one.

ADON APPROVES OF THIS MESSAGE

Well, I have never written a review on an RM game before, so I am sure the experts(aka everyone else who has been on here far longer than I have, and people who have reviewed before) opinion should be valued. I changed it so I wouldn't cause some political uproar for a review. I have been waiting to review this game for weeks, and if I am that bad of a reviewer, then maybe I should stay away from reviewing. This game will be the only game I will ever review. (THANK GOODNESS)
And yes, the original review was pushing it far. Really far. Problem solved?
Woah, a lot of criticism going on regarding this review.
I posted a review too, so I'm waiting for it to be accepted.
It was a tech demo, and it definitely did not deserve a 5-star rating in my opinion, however it is still your choice what you think of it Adon, so there's no point in changing the star rating because everyone else is sharing their opinions too, but nor is it very sensible to start getting annoyed or angry with them for sharing their criticism either. It was only a tech demo anyway, so it seems a little pointless to make a review for it anyway due to the play time and stuff inside the demo.
I've made a review for it because I feel like sharing my opinion, but it's mostly because of this review I'm doing so as I want to vary the reviews with my own rating too.

I played the demo, darling. It wasn't shitty, no, but certainly doesn't deserve 5 stars. Actually, it doesn't deserve a rating at all, since it's a tech demo.

What did I just read...? A 5-star review for a tech demo? Also dude, Kaduki/RTP mix is horrible.

What, you people want me to say the demo was a piece of shit? The tech demo wasn't even that bad, minus the damn font problems! If you actually played the damn demo, you will see that I am fairly accurate that it isn't low quality.
I am sure they are modified RTP mixes, but yeah I generally agree, Kaduki and RTP don't look well together.
