Yeah, the battle charsets are somewhat as tricky as the animations were. However, they should be too much of a problem. One of the things you'll definitely be able to do is enable a mode which automatically applied battle charsets to monsters if they both have the same name. Then you'll be fighting other animated charsets if you want.
I've also been working on some really experimental things for this engine. Not sure if it will work or anything in the end, but I hope to get some interesting results.
It's precisely using battle charsets for enemies instead of just a picture. Although this means it now takes more work to make enemies, but it all feels more unified and active if you did.
