First Tutorial

I think there's enough stuff written that I can take on a first tutorial for this new engine. I'm not going to just write some random tutorial, I want to know what tutorial is most needed.

You can read the latest supported and added commands list in the download, or read a short copy of the documentation in the tab up there. A more detailed explanation of each individual new function can be found in the manual PDF also located in engine download.

Once you know my current progress, you can now ask a high-level question about what you want to do with the engine. You should really read any of the various documentation to avoid asking about things you can't yet do, otherwise you'll have to see what I think about a question.

The hard part about this is that there are many things you may not think you can do yet that you already can do, so even if you have read the documentation and think something can't be done- it won't hurt to ask anyway~! What's the worst that can happen, I simply tell you it can't yet be done? Let's rephrase that to "I don't know how you would do that with the current version" since it may be easily doable after all and I myself might not know.

"Getting Started" and other vague requests can fill a book, and can be answered with whatever relevant existing documentation on RPG Maker 2003, so do try to be somewhat specific.

I'll write the tutorial, implement any easy requirements possibly, and post it around. So ask away~

Just a suggestion, but certainly up to you. One of the most informative tutorials I ever found was for RPG Maker VX:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/45833692/Guide-Section

About 109 pages complete, taking the audience on a step-by-step process of using the game's engine by having the audience follow along as they create the same rpg that guide is teaching you how to create. It teaches them a bit about mapping, setting up events, transfers, creating the stories, switches, common/global switches, variables, using the database, etc.

Quite a tedious task, but probably the most effective. Something similar for this may also have a great impact.
Even though this is a new engine, it was made to act like RPG Maker 2003. It's required, and I know my audience knows how to use RPG Maker 2003 to some degree. I am not writing a tutorial, instruction book, or other such documentation on how to use RPG Maker 2003 as they already exist.

I repeat:

If I was making an engine replacement for VX, don't you think it would be a grand waste of time to write a tome on using VX when one exists?

What people do not know how to do is use the extra, powerful features of the engine. The simple things, when combined, go far beyond the limits of RPG Maker. Using these together effectively to accomplish one's wish is difficult, and therefore that is why I will write a tutorial.

For a complete explanation of the entire engine thus far, the manual is included with engine download. It gets updated with the engine, you know. But it's only good as a manual and reference.

Just as the existing library of RPG Maker 2003 tutorials complements the help file, there needs to be a small library of tutorials and tricks to complement the RPG Maker 20XX PDF manual.

This thread has been dead silent, but people ask me for tutorials all the time. If you're looking for exemplars, I'm about to resume working on Garnet Lion from the ground up and I plan on showing you what I'm doing there.
Fair enough, I wasn't sure what sort of tutorial you were thinking of doing and was just offering the idea. Of course, I'm in full agreement that although different, there's a lot of similarity between each editor, so once you've mastered one you should not have too much trouble learning another...

On a side note, I thought I saw something awhile back about being able to swap out party members, but can't seem to find anything about that now. Was I misreading that, or were you planning to add that option? By this I mean, add it as a default option without having to event this each time.

Actually not even. You can use the same exact editor.

Depending on the currently selected battle system, it will use the top X party members in your party. So pretty much the formation command in RPG Maker 2003 will let you do this.
