This page is for discussion of the technical side of content creation. If you have a technical issue or question with regards to a character or story you are creating, talk about it here.
(The old Custom Content thread can be found here)

Helpful things:

--> Medium build girl, the .psd that was used to create the built-in characters, is available with layer names in English.

--> Kudos to SparkleFox for finding us a male tachie generator, authored by "彩 雅介" (Aya Mayabaikai?)! This one is put together as a program, but has PSD files with layer-names in Japanese. No "fan-translation" available at this time.

--> You can use any of these images for making new custom characters.

--> Notepad++ with syntax highlighting for Heartache 101 can be a big help with story creation. To set it up, go to the View menu and set User Defined Language to HeartAche. Then close View, go to the Language menu and select HeartAche. (If you already have Notepad++, here's userDefineLang.xml by itself)

--> Mr. Help File has, regrettably, forgotten to mention certain locations! They are as follows:
Beach (sunset), Grounds (sunset), Roof (sunset), Bedroom (Morning), Downtown, Studio Room.
Note that these locations must be specified via a PLACE command. To the best of my (ie: Marrend's) knowledge, they cannot be obtained via the generic "School" or "City" code.

As a perfectionist, I was never going to be showcasing project I have yet completed.

This kind of statement frustrates me greatly. On one hand, I can understand not wanting to show anything off, even in an incomplete state. Then again, let me pull a quote from Sooz.

Adequate and finished beats perfect and unfinished every time.

I almost want to add "Every. Single. Damn. Time." to this.

As for...

I saw someone using the name "Shika" and "Ryoko". Someone using straight long black haired girl model. And after the thing with Robin Clark. I kind of wanna claim my spot a bit.

...this bit, some cross-referencing leads me to...

ID 33 = ? Ryoko {Dozen, unpublished}
ID 98 = Nagai Shika {Garage, "Winggirl - Pathways"}

...these two characters. Ryoko was never published, and it's author hasn't made a post on RMN since 2017. It's fairly safe to consider that character "abandoned". Shika, however, is in published content, and has been in various updates to the OCCD.

Just don't ask me which of these girls is "Shika".

This is not to say that your characters cannot have a different family names than the ones on the ID-list. This point was raised during the development of Nekochi's Watanabe Junko, and there also being an NPC teacher in the Uchioniko pack called "Junko". Though, it also helps that the Uchioniko pack is generally independent of other content existing to function.

*Edit: If you want to make a claim for the ID-list, I would prefer to see something that could be construed as playable content to accept such a request. If you've been working on this content for 7 years, you should have samples of scenes, if not in-game screencaps.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say "you should not show anything when your work is incomplete". I wasn't meant to be dissing people's incomplete work here :< it's just my personal thing. Being a perfectionist is such a pain sometime a lot of the time.

And about the similar name & model stuff. I'm the type of guy who lose confidence in my creations when I see someone else already took the similar ideas (cause I'm afraid my creation will either be viewed as copying them or being less impactful as the similar idea already appeared before mine). But again, it's just my thing.

My created contents are a stand-alone content, so I'm not really asking for listing them in the ID slot here, I just wanna show-off a bit :D if I may?

Then again, if I just show-off without reason, maybe some people will think this guy is just so full of himself, bragging all those stuff even though his works is also incomplete.. Ah sorry, did I just being so self-judgemental again.

While most of the early (and incomplete) custom content requires the base-characters to be active, there are also characters listed that have no such requirement. There's even a few stand-alone content in there!

That said, the ID-list was made as a comprehensive list of what content is known to exist. Also, Heartache was designed to have multiple characters that share one ID, with the understanding that it would be impossible to have content with characters that share said IDs. That said, given how long the game has been around (has it really been nine years!? ;_;), and the contents of the ID-list, there is something of an unwritten rule about using an ID that is already "taken".

I just wanna show-off a bit :D if I may?

Sure. I'm thinking what you might want to post would go into the artistic thread, rather than here. The technical thread is more about gaining understanding (or showing understanding) of the inner workings of Heartache's "code".

Shika is the Blonde, just for the record ;)

As for other people doing something similar to your own ideas ... this is a dating sim. So it's virtually impossible to be unique in every single aspect of your stories. And there's only so many different hair-colors or names or character traits to use.

So a bit similarity is to be expected - if not unavoidable.

If you think your work might be interesting or entertaining to at least some people - in my view that should be enough reason for you to publish it.
Okay, I'm done with the show-off in Content creation tab. Now back to technicalities question I had in mind.

Is there any way to make a story that happenned after school. When the story is over, the player skips city activity and go home?
I'm planning to make this after school scene that happen during afternoon at school.

I remember Hinami had similar event that enable the player to skips city activity, "searching for Hinami after school" event, but alas, apparently it requires the player to go to "Market Street" (City) first. Which won't work on my story. Because in my story, the player is walking around the school in the afternoon, then meet & spending time with a girl in other classroom. I can made up a story for why he goes to "Front B" first before the classroom, but I dunno how to explain why he goes all the way to the "City" first before going back to the school.

There has been questions about skipping from School Phase to City Phase, and the answer to that has been a "nope". But from School to Night/Phone Phase?

Well, the thought in my head is to start the event at Front B where you meet the character. From there, you JUMP into another event at a whatever school-associated PLACE works best. Then JUMP into another event at with "PLACE=Bedroom". Try ending that event with a CONTINUE.

For what it's worth, Mr. Help File says the following in regards to CONTINUE:

When this is the last command in the script of a Story or Branch, the normal activities for the appropriate event will be resumed. If the story is a City story, the normal activities for that city location will resume (such as buying gifts or building attributes). If the story is a Dating story, the normal date activities in a date will resume (such as gifting gifts, eating out, or walking home together). If the story is a Phone story, the normal choices for a generic phone conversation will resume ("Just chat", "Ask for a date").

So, I don't know if putting in a CONTINUE within a Bedroom story would return an error message, or, actually let you skip to Night/Phone Phase this way. My gut tells me that you'll be bounced back to City Phase, but, it's worth a try?
There's no way to skip City or Phone phase. Specifing a new PLACE in a JUMPed to STORY will just change the Background.

In other words: your technique, Marrend, would work for an event where you'd send Kazuhiko home to fetch something and then return to school or whereever but not for changing the daily schedule.

(And as far as I know there's no CONTINUE for Bedroom stories anyway. ... Plus something in the back of my mind tells me there was a problem regarding using CONTINUE in a jumped to story.)
Okay, thank you for the insight, fellas, so it appears that either I have to somehow able to edit the game system/ programs or I have to somehow make a good excuse why the player had to go to the first before going back to school.

Well, that's the least of my concern for now, as finishing the story (or even write some) is more important anyway.

Then, I have more crucial thing I may need to know about the Hayauchi School itself.

1. Do Hayauchi only teaching for Senior High School (10th-12th grade) or do they also teaching Junior High/ Middle School & Elementary?
Also, do they own university for graduating students or something?

2. What kind of image Hayauchi is portrayed by the people around, a good education school, standard, below standard, or elite school?
Also, their tuition fees categorized in low budget, standard budget, or high budget?

Sorry if my english grammar was messy/ hard to understand.

Hayauchi is expressly a high school from what I recall. Which, would translate to 10-12th grade. I seem to recall <SECRET CHARACTER> being from a junior high school, and wears a different-colored uniform. We can probably ignore that the style of the uniform is exactly the same, as authors (and possibly players) tend to be lazy not worry of such details. I don't know if Hayauchi is associated with any junior highs out there, but, it might be possible?

I'm inclined to believe Hayauchi's a private school of some kind. However, it's barrier to entry might be on the lower end of the spectrum, given the riff-raff that the authors tend to throw into the game attend it. My mind turns to Keika on this point. Her family could have probably afforded a better school for their daughter, but, I get the particular impression that she insisted on Haycuchi to be with Miki. I don't recall off-hand what her grades might look like (probably average?), so, that might have had an affect on their choices too.

*Edit:
it appears that either I have to somehow able to edit the game system/ programs

I can't support that line of thought. It would probably mean decrypting the game, and opening it through RPG Maker XP. I would suggest just doing the meetup-event at FRONT B, as you originally planned, then JUMP to their actual meeting right then and there rather than racking your brain over how to make sense of why he'd go back to school from City-Phase.
