This page is for discussion of the technical side of content creation. If you have a technical issue or question with regards to a character or story you are creating, talk about it here.
(The old Custom Content thread can be found here)

Helpful things:

--> Medium build girl, the .psd that was used to create the built-in characters, is available with layer names in English.

--> Kudos to SparkleFox for finding us a male tachie generator, authored by "彩 雅介" (Aya Mayabaikai?)! This one is put together as a program, but has PSD files with layer-names in Japanese. No "fan-translation" available at this time.

--> You can use any of these images for making new custom characters.

--> Notepad++ with syntax highlighting for Heartache 101 can be a big help with story creation. To set it up, go to the View menu and set User Defined Language to HeartAche. Then close View, go to the Language menu and select HeartAche. (If you already have Notepad++, here's userDefineLang.xml by itself)

--> Mr. Help File has, regrettably, forgotten to mention certain locations! They are as follows:
Beach (sunset), Grounds (sunset), Roof (sunset), Bedroom (Morning), Downtown, Studio Room.
Note that these locations must be specified via a PLACE command. To the best of my (ie: Marrend's) knowledge, they cannot be obtained via the generic "School" or "City" code.

I just want to ask why these AFFECTION lines cannot be simplified to...

ID = 17
AFFECTION DOWN 40
#Clarissa
ID = 19
AFFECTION UP 40
#Jane
ID = 16
AFFECTION DOWN 10

I mean, having multiple characters move their affection values is fine. I'm just wondering why you have it written the way you did.

Anyway, I played a portion of the route that is available for this set of characters. I listened to a few pieces of music before playing, as is my want. It gets my stamp of approval, if that means anything to you. I had a bit of trouble understanding some of the things people were saying. Much like I had a bit of trouble what you said in your last post but this is not surprising.
Yeah, about that, Kevin. Ya see, Marrend has this little reading comprehension prob. You also might consder noteworthy that practically each of us are fugitives from a sanitarium dealing with batshit insanity mental disorders, and, for some fucking reason, still developing the same game while being completely unrelated otherwise (probably some fate/karma mashup thing). Just so you know what to expect.
Ah, and the help file prefers Mr. as a honorific. Better not question him.
And Dozen double posts! The publicum lapidates!

Even if the player doesn't notice his relationships are going down the slope, the users should still see what really happens. It is annoying otherwise, as you say. The Player's ignorance and love blindness is running joke, anyway.
Heh, that sounds a bit scary xD
I guess I'll keep the scrambler then, that's a kind of an ace in the sleeve involving my beloved Eliza route, as she is mine most complex char.

And what's with all the English names? We're getting a little crowded with foreigners here. A small town in Japan is not all bunnies and sunshine for an outsider. (...) to let all these girls enroll unless they have excellent grades, upstanding behavior, and/or some...tricks.
From all the details I've were searching for, that was one I'd probally never notice.
All the chars that I'm using on WolfPack were created at least six months ago for other story, so the names sound absolutely natural for me, even not being right on the plot. Guess I'll need to take a deeper look at it, we're not at the year 2397 and Eliza don't have a Granade Launcher.
Tricks... well... Clarissa is full of them, but guess I don't really want to think deeper about it. xD

Guess you got me wrong on this one :p
The first two lines are the scrambler, they are supposed to conflict and cancel each other, this will give the 'Affection up 20' animation for any affection change, as just the last line per ID work.

Sure it means, Thanks ^^
Well, that's not very surprising for me too, I'm brazilian and 85% of my english is game made, the other 15% is google made, for a visual novel that's a bit inaccurate. xD
PS. If someone say that here in Brazil we learn on school how to speak english, don't trust him.
You weren't taught? Very well! I didn't spend my time in English classes to make no use of it later! Let's fix this last paragraph!
Overseer powers, activate!

'They', 'them' and 'their' is used in singular third person when gender is unknown, as well as in plural third(of which you are aware).

'Too' means an addition(among other things). 'Either' means a choice over one or another. Either is used an intensive in this negative sentence to express the absence of difference.

In a conditional sentence, all verbs after 'if' and before 'would' are in past tense. All verbs after auxiliaries that are in past tense(such as 'would', the past form of 'will', or 'did', the past from of 'do') remain unchanged regardless of where what you refer to takes place in time.

Also, English uses a strict word order to differentiate between object and subject(incredibly silly language). Make sure you don't confuse those poor native speakers.

You're welcome!

Ace in the sleeve, eh? Let's take a second look at what the scrambler even does:

ID = 17
AFFECTION UP 20
AFFECTION DOWN 20
AFFECTION DOWN 40
#Clarissa
ID = 19
AFFECTION UP 20
AFFECTION DOWN 20
AFFECTION UP 40
#Jane
ID = 16
AFFECTION UP 20
AFFECTION DOWN 20
AFFECTION DOWN 10

What the player would see is:
AFFECTION UP

Am I the only person who sees a problem with this? Especially when the first group of AFFECTION lines is actually, you know, negative?

He just said he wouldn't use it, Sir Missalot. That means you don't have to understand why there aren't any problems with it, which means I don't have to explain it to you. That's good. 'kay?
Guess the scrambler made a bit more trouble than I've thought xD

AFFECTION UP
Yep, it was supposed to hide every affection change, and the only way to do it was using the fake affection up animation. (Of course with the player aware of that.)
I had that idea to make things a bit more confusing, what in my opinion is more realistic, as love is exactly like that. You don't have anything but a slap to show you when have gone too far. :p

author=Dozen
He just said he wouldn't use it
Well... I hadn't said that before. xD
But as the scrambler is going to affect negatively the gameplay, I'll cancel it.

By the way, Thanks for the English class :3

That would be cool, but some hours each week... Sounds like it's going take a lot of your free time. .-.
Any tip you can give is fine. ^^

I was starting to work on the full pack, well...
When I've tried to (really) set up a multi route plot for the six chars and smoothen the talks, my head just got bluescreen, serves me right for trying to play the pro.
I'm not really sure about what to do about it, because I need more chars to be able to develop Eliza correctly, but I'm not able to do them. :p
Anyway, quality is priority over quantity, I'll figure a way to do it. I hope
I'm back in the saddle btw. If anyone has issues to report that need to be addressed or that I may have forgotten, now would be a good time!
So far I've been taking care of the bugs Marrend reported over the past half-year, which are not as many as I had thought. The next release won't even be worth downloading to you guys unless there's a new feature or something.... :)

Weeeeellllll... there is this little feeling nagging me in the back of my head about how we're limitied to two relations per character. Originally, they looked like this:

Fairly tame.
And now they look like this:

Holy- What the- I give up!
LordNight's and Triad's characters excluded, of course.(Frankly, I just don't know enough about them.) Not going to get any more decipherable, either. I have quite a list on upcoming chars.
It also worths mentioning that Masako has info on everyone ever to set foot on the planet, Ryoko can dig up dirt in a similar fashion, Shihoko and Miki probably know every popular girl by name, Kyouki works in the convenience store part time... I could go on and on. Maybe we could base relations directly on ID instead of CUSTOM lines, and expand on the effects of dating girls who know each other?
It's a good suggestion. I have some misgivings, one of which is that the status screen only has room to show two relations.
author=flowerthief
It's a good suggestion. I have some misgivings, one of which is that the status screen only has room to show two relations.

Maybe they could have two main, most important relations or something and then the rest could show up in the mental notes when the player learns about them? (Or we could create a whole separate relations popup similar to the mental notes, except that it's only for relations.) That probably wouldn't be a problem if some tweaking was done to the mental notes section. What might be kind of cool with the mental notes is if it has several different tabs, like one for only date spots, one only for liked or disliked stats, and one only for gifts (and only one for relations if we went this route), which would allow the player to keep more mental notes and have them be more organized.

Of course, you're the one who would have to implement this stuff, so it's up to you. (Also, if you do make these changes, it might be a good idea to create something where you can know a girl, but not have her show up on the stat screen so that relations between say, Aoi and Junko, could be shown. Just an idea.)

Good suggestions. Will keep them in mind.
Well, it can't hurt to announce here that I am making a character based off of the "Character 27" tachie from the "for those who lack artistic ability" link that goes to the old custom content page.

She is Nami Momohana. She is a second year high school student. And that's all I'm revealing because that's all I'm hard-set on.

She is using ID 39 as well. If this could be put onto the list then that would be wonderful.
