Announcement

Switched game engines, and game title is changing again.

Welp, I'm no longer have plans to use the Unreal Engine, as the con I seen online is that the game engine is not beginner friendly. I've switched it to Unity. Also, I have thought of of the game's new name. But I'll be showing that off way later down the line.

Announcement

Finally, the game engine is chosen.

So after days and days of playing around, and seeing what works, I have come to a complete decision, but first... Here's what I can do with each game engine I tried right now.

-The Unreal Engine-
This one, I actually was able to do a bit of, in terms of playing around. Though I had starter assets in the project, I was able to make a map, though with a few more days of using it, I think I could make a good map, given some more time. I didn't figure out how to do a lot in the time I did, but if I choose this one, I'll probably learn a few things.

-Unity-
I could make projects, but compared to the Unreal Engine, it was a bit harder. Sure it's possible to use this engine to its full extent, but with the knowledge I have about it, I can't really do much. Making a landscape I can do though, but making full blown games with this would take longer to learn than the engine above. And based on the options I have when creating new projects, I don't think I can mix 2D Sprites with 3D maps. But I'm sure, after an update or two, that might change. But for now.... well... this might be out.

-Amazon Lumberyard-
After all that time on getting the SDKs, I create a project, and it doesn't even work. Like seriously. I can't actually get into the game editor. I might've been doing something wrong, but for now... I can't do anything with this. Sorry Amazon.

So after days of taking a bit of a load off, due to Amazon Lumberyard not working like I wanted it to, I finally come to this decision.

This game, like a few recent games, will be using The Unreal Engine. It won't be the first fighting game to use this engine, but at least I can do a few more things than the other two choices.

With that said, I will be putting this back on Hiatus. So that I can focus on other project(s) before officially starting this one, that way some stories can be told.

I better uninstall the other two game engines before starting too, that way I have more HDD Space to use while developing. Just in case. Oh. and I might have to update the Unreal Engine, in case that has an update since last I used it.

Announcement

Now currently in full focus for now.

I'm now focusing my efforts to, at least, find a game engine to have this project start actual development. The game won't be out for a while after a game engine has been found. However, I did sum it up to two game engines. Unity or the Unreal Engine. And by the looks of things, and games I've played on both engines, they both have potential. However, I hope I don't need to get another mouse. If I do, then I'll probably hire a small team, and focus on trying to develop alongside the team... mostly in spirit since I don't actually have a studio, and just a bedroom.... or two depending on where I am at for the month.

Anyway, progress will be announced after I figure out which of the two engines I'm going to go with.

New Title, New Story, Same old engine finding...

As you may have noticed, TEMPORAL - TIME AND SPACE had a title change. The game's now called Fighting Festivalis, and I did a quick look for the title logo too.

I'm not sure if the title was already taken or not, since I thought it up, but I'll be bringing new plans for it instead of the old TEMPORAL plans, which are still in the game page.

Now I'm still finding an engine for this game, though I'm more focused on Memorie as of lately. Soon I'll pick a game engine, and use it to make this fighting game, and see if it sees the light of day. Sadly, I don't think it'll be a steam game since I don't have money, but it'll be there. Expect new screen plans in the screenshots area.

Upcoming Plans for this in development stages

For this, which will take a while to find an engine for, I plan to stick with the mix between classic and modern fighting game mechanics. However, I would like to, just for lols, add a difficulty setting along with the normal easy/normal/hard difficulty that will have the characters based on their personalities and experiences from their original worlds. Again, this has yet to surface development as other projects are taking the most spotlight, but I will be bringing this in development and will be engine searching a little bit as soon as a new demo for Memorie is released.

As you might've noticed, I changed the look of the logo again.

Instead of that older logo, this one was done in paint.net, instead of just all merged from a Microsoft Office picture text thing I made in the first attempt of plans.

In the past planning, I used a normal 4:3 resolution for planning this game. Here's a fight screen plan from the past.

This had a sprite and character(s) as placeholders for more planning. Soon, I'll be changing the resolution from a 4:3 to a 16:10.

I'll also be changing more of the plans down the line, so stay tuned for next time I bring up a planning blog.

Found an engine, and it's free from Amazon O_O

Which means that I will try out this engine, and see if I can have either 2D sprites in a 3d area, or have it completely 3D. Afterwards, I'll start trying to make development, and start a demo. But first.... it's a 10 gigabyte download for the core engine +1 or more gigabytes for some sample objects and worlds. I'll maybe get the sample objects as it has things, such as trees. So that leaves one thing.... What KIND of Demo am I thinking of and what will the game battles be like?

I'm thinking of a free battle demo with limited characters. Basically having one character per universe (Memorie (upcoming game), Area 99 (Upcoming novel), etc). And only one map. Think like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm's demo. In that game you were only able to choose 2 characters and was only able to do a match in one stage. I'm thinking of something similar to that, but maybe having more characters. I probably wont' be getting any voices for the characters, due to personal things, lack of money, etc. I probably won't make a kickstarter because, due to having Memorie in development for a long time by now, I don't have a current release date, as you all probably noticed. And just having money won't be a good match because...... I'm BAD with money. I kind of like Amazon's Cry Engine clone and will try it out, maybe make a fighting scene.

As for game battles... I played too much Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games, so I've been thinking about battles. If it's 2D sprites in a 3D stage, then the standard fighting game mechanics. If it's all 3D, then I'll have a one-on-one free roaming kind of fighting game.

There IS NOT going to be any online play with either decision. I'd have to use Amazon's services, which are kind of pricey at the moment, and I would probably have to pay a monthly fee to keep it up. However, I will have Twitch features, from the engine, working unless it also uses Amazon's services. For now, it's a 2 to 4 player local multiplayer, with fighting mechanics which is probably a mix of modern and classic fighting games.

I was also thinking of the scenario, but I will reveal that when the time comes.

Okay. That's pretty much it. As you may know, the game is still in Hiatus, due to not having the engine installed. Once finished, I'll make a demo out of it soon, and give you all a first had experience, before the game is fully developed. That aside, I'll keep you posted. See you.

[FINAL] Non-Guest character Roster (Who's going to be in this game?)

Even though I'm still engine searching, I am also changing what plans there are. So here are the FINAL Non-Guest character Roster.

(From Memorie (upcoming Non-Commercial game))
Akiko
Kita - Minigame character only
Estur
Kado
Makoto (was introduced a couple times before the current changes occurred)
(From Area 99 (Upcoming novel))
Durami - Both fighter and minigame character
Suki - Both fighter and minigame character
Crow (upcoming character)
Kitara (upcoming character) - Both fighter and minigame character

That's it for the character roster for the Non-Guests. I'll update the character roster later.

Still looking for an engine...

I haven't found a free and open source Fighting Game engine yet. It's kind of hard. But I'm still looking around the web, even at sites. If anyone reading this blog entry knows where I can find a free Fighting Game engine, please reply below.

Steam Change of Plans

Since it costs about $100 to submit a greenlight, there will be no Steam Version of this game when it is developed. Sorry.

Miscellaneous

My plans for this project - when is it going to be released, and on what Platform(s)...?

When I started this little project, I planned to make this a PC and a PS3 title, but things changed. I plan on releasing this game on PC still, in both Steam and Non-Steam form, and the PSN, when I get the licensing to do so. I am not planning an Xbox release due to many different problems with Microsoft and indie games it isn't funny.

I'm still looking for an engine to use, which is easy to use and has some sort of visual help, that's free and open source. Other than that, I've started on more screen plans. However, I'll find an engine that fits these needs eventually. That's why there's no release date planned for this game.
