I dig the train. The backdrop, however, reminds me of the RTP one for some reason. Maybe change it for something slightly more realistic? (That moon is huge, too) ...But what really bothers me is the position of that dialog box. Is it really necessary for it to cover the character? I don't remember that ever happening in ff8, and it's a bad practice anyway.

Yeah it was just out of convenience. The problem with event-based message boxes and tall sprites is that \\e (i.e the player) is designed to appear 32px above the event's bottom. If I change it, all the other event positioning gets screwed with.

I'll probably just through an event in the top right and co-ordinate it there.

As for the backdrop, yeaaaah. It's not RTP, but getting a decent one for this sequence has proved to be a giant pain in the bum so far. Problem is that it's implied the train is moving. I tried adding the mountain ranges (since there is one in the area the train is travelling in) but they looked terribad ;~;
The doors kind of bug me since they look like they should be lower.
Well, from this perspective, I guess it would be a fair assessment to draw the horizon on the background. From there, a few speed lines plus the occasional object passing on the foreground, should give away the illusion of movement. Kinda like this: Link ...That's probably more work than you were hoping to do, but it could be for the best. xD

But if you did manage to do what AE suggested I would love you x1,000,000 (which is about twice as much as I love you at present :D ) and praise you as god of all things RM. I seriously love scenes like that where you can see everything passing by with perfect perspective and depth.
That is an amazing suggestion and it would help a lot with that scene! :D

I personally think it's fine. Although, I do agree a little bit with Gourdo that the train doors and how they're positioned bother me a little bit. But other than that – this looks just divine. Keep it up!

Not only because of the box covering the character, but because for me is more logical ordered as "question"->"answer" (top to bottom).

The perspective stuff would be nice too.
