Sorry, Sorry, Sorry (and a major progress report)

I deeply apologize for saying way back when in January that I'd be working on this game and making progress reports and stuff later down the line. Obviously, none of that happened. Life happened, and I just felt like I was finished with Obama RPG.

Well, life is still happening, but it's summer. And with summer comes me having tons of time on my hands. And with that, I became interested in Obama RPG once more. I'm very determined, now, to finish this game, to polish it up, and to put this child of mine to rest.

That said, here's a list of what I've done over the past week or so:

  • Ran through what I have of the game thus far and polished up grammar, making other changes and improvements as I went.

  • Added an MP3 Player item you pick up at the beginning of the game. You can find vinyl records throughout the game that contain battle themes you can play on your MP3 player. That way, you can listen to a variety of awesome battle themes and choose whichever one you want to listen to. Music ranges from popular series such as Persona to Lost Odyssey to Golden Sun to Mother/Earthbound to Etrian Odyssey, you name it.

  • Worked through every chapter in the game, worked out exactly what dungeons there are, what bosses will be fought, what the music for said bosses will be, etc. Basically a detailed outline.

  • Finished Chapter 3 (finally) and created approximately 1/3 of Chapter 4. I'm actually working on the game as I type this blog, so completion will continue at a good rate.

Good news is that I still very much so have a strong drive to keep working. That was a problem back in January. I made it to the end of Chapter 3 and I basically just collapsed from unwillingness to work. Here's what I plan to do next:

  • Revamp the game's name and title screen. I don't know about anyone else, but Obama RPG sounds so plain, now. I want to create some crazy title like the Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden game, just to make it sound more interesting. Also, the title screen is looking bland, so I'll remake that as soon as I'm done this blog post, and I'll update it on rpgmaker.net once I'm done.

  • Work through the rest of the game, obviously. Still a ways to go, but once Chapter 4 is done, the longest bit is over. As I've said in the past, Chapter 4 is the longest chapter, with 3 dungeons, so once this is done, we're past the mid-game hump.

  • Work out the bonus chapters. I plan on having two bonus chapters that sort of follow up on the main game. One's just a funny sort of chapter, the other is more serious and should develop a major character considerably and tie up loose ends, there.

  • Work on the other two bonus things. Those being a coliseum of sorts where you can go through three or four tiers of enemies with a boss at the end and get some nice weapons/armor from it. The other being the true final dungeon, which only opens once you've beaten a few secret bosses, the two bonus chapters, the main game (obviously), and the coliseum.

So, there's a long road ahead, but I'm feeling good about this. Really, if anything keeps me going, it's the drive to finish this game that has been in hiatus for so long, as well as the music. To me, a game's music is very important, and I pull out all my favorite tracks, here. Working while listening to those tracks just really motivates me.

I don't know if anyone cares about this game or will ever believe me again when I say something like "I'm working on this game, guys, seriously", but I'm working regardless. And once I actually finish the game, then you'll know I was telling the truth. ;)
