xOmBiEs AhEaD! HeLp MeEeEeE pLeAsE!

Hello!
I admit I love a lot zombie movies
And for this reason I love zombie games too, of course!
xOMBYCAPYSE is a game of zombies made for the RMN 2012 Horror Game Contest in less than a day by Carrionblue of Moga, author of some nices games I played and reviewed in the past, such as:

Halo Mixtape
I'm Scared of Girls
Ghost Suburb II: From Beyond Sleep Into The Eyes of Madness

My favourite was the last one, but these are all pretty good games. They are quite different but there are some common traits that are found in all of them and, unsurprisingly, we will be able to see them used in xOMBYCAPYSE too.
These are: custom cute graphics, weird colors, and a creepy surreal world that still is not fantasy at all but has some connections with our real world. The protagonist are rarely heroes, more like survivors!

And this case is no different, since we play as a survivor during a xOMBYCAPYSE. Ok, it's halloween, and while a song similar to a cacophony of different sounds plays, we learn that there are lots of xombies (yes, the game uses this term) around the streets of the town of Asdf.

Here we are! And while besides ghosts and zombies there are humans, that aren't remotely helpful at all!

The plot is simple: after we talk to a friend outside home we learn that we have to flee from town taking a train. BUT first we need the help of the Death Mage, an old dude in a coat that will ask us to kill the bartender and take his head, then we need to go back to the old guy and enter the forest so we can take the train ticket (why is it in the forest? Do not ask!) and head to take the train at the station!
Easy? Well, not at all!

First we have just two minutes and 30 seconds to do that. Second, there are not only the xombies, but also some really dangerous ground spikes! Ouch!
Luckily you have more than one life. but unluckily that's not the problem, nor are the enemies since you can find swords scattered here and there that guarantee ten killings each, and also there are shields and extra lives. No, the real problem is time that is very short, especially if you waste time doing pointless things like dying or talking to random people and vending machines for funny dialogues!

The graphic style... is weeeeird! Those colors burn my eyes, it's so stylish, weird, unique and awful at the same time! All is confused and you had limited visuals (that uses Moga's typical cute and stylized art style) with glitches and... ok let's say it's a mess ok? That's enough, but this was clearly done on purpouse.

Anyway here's a thing/glitch I found: some tiles are technically supposed to be obstacles, STILL you can walk over them if you insist, keeping pressing the directional key, and these are walls, fences and water.

YAY! Done, time to go now, and run run run...

Final Verdict
This is a difficult game to rate: first because it's bad, second because this was made to be purposely confusing and glitchy, third because despite this it's strangely addictive (maybe I am masochist, who knows? Well probably): first you have to talk and understand what you are supposed to do. You die (or, better you run out of time). Then you look for the bartender since you HAVE a bar near home but it's NOT that bar, since it's closed (thanks a lot tomake things even more confusing)! Another game over. Then you find and kill the bartender, you access the forest and you have to find the train ticket... and then game over again! Anyway given the time limit of less than three minutes, no inventory, no stats or level ups, all plays fast and furious, so it's not a probblem restarting from the beginning.

In the end a cool, weird game but obviously not for everyone. For me it's a 3.5/5! Still a nice idea, with an ok execution.
