I think they're okay if you get a good treasure drop from them. Ones that have no treasure? Yeah, those suck.
Also, I mistook the ceiling for the hole tile due to how both have a 'drop away' in them. Maybe remove the drop away part of the ceiling tiles?

Mimic Merchant in Uni's swap games were cute and made them a positive experience. An usual Mimic is pain.
It would be great to have a mimic as a party member. With his locks, he would be a kung-fu master.

I think it would be nice if there was some sort of way of telling mimics apart from real treasure. For example, a treasure map which shows where the chests are at and any chest that is not on there is a mimic. Something like that would be cool.
Different design maybe? They should look like something else than just a mere chest wit teeth. Or they can have a guardian attached. So, you are trying to open a chest, when suddenly a statue behind it starts movin.

Come to think of it, I don't even have any mimic-type enemies. ><author=Liberty

…Or ones where you’re about to open the bloody chest when SOME GUY comes out of nowhere (- Siegfried, FF6) and takes your hard earned treasure even after you beat him in a fight. I don’t like shit like that... (even if it was pretty humorous, actually).

Maybe when you get close to a chest with a mimic in it, it starts to get up out of position and then it starts chasing you throughout, large fangs and evil eyes and all, and then it stops chasing you after you get away from it after a certain distance. At least you got a pretty good chance to react to it - and even get a good spook out of it!
