You do not need colors to be scary!

Hello, and welcome to... a dark and disturbing horror adventure like no other! A really stylish one indeed. This game was made for the event RMN’s All Hallow’s Eve 2013 by Housekeeping with RPG Maker VX. It's worth mentioning that this is a short 20-30 minutes game with 4 different endings (a total of an hour is enough to unlock everything, the game has a sort of trophy room with all the unlockables including the endings obtained), unlockables and a nice unique graphic stylized appearence.

Graphically the game is really stylish: I like that the creator of the game, that claimed that she can't draw, used facemaker portraits and various sprites made with an editor to modify some existing RTPs plus some custom made items. All done in black and white (plus the red color used sparingly) because our protagonist is colorblind! Interesting choice and clever idea, the final result is an unique stylish creepy world seen in a 2.5D perspective (the only thing I do not like so much was the overused smoke effect. Yes, for a particular reason it made sense in a part, but not so much sense to have it used almost everywhere).

Surprise! I'm a doggie! WOOF WOOF!

But, graphics aside, how is the game? I already said that this is a horror adventure, so expect various ways to die if you do not perform well in the chase sections. There are also tasks where you need to find and use items on the right places (the lower side of the screen displays the inventory through five white squares) and answer in different ways in some dialogues. You can't save anytime but only when the game lets you do that, so be ready for some risky situation when tis happens!
Some good, atmospheric music will accompany the misadventures of the protagonist for all the game, I do not know the source but hey, it's good and I liked that!

I admit that the story itself isn't very interesting, but it starts great and the beginning is really interesting. I also liked how all is linked to the theme of perception: the colorblindness, the eyes, the color contrasts, the visual effects... all mixed with Cthulhu's mythos. That's neat, I think. Also the rewards you can get with the endings are worth playing this game fully, after all it's not so long.
If I had to find some flaws, these are probably some puzzles that I found not realy intuitive, and some things (I won't spoil) whose role/effect is never explanined, but again, it's maybe all linked to the "theme of preception" Well, I said maybe! In any case, nothing else to report. I also do not want to spoil the fun of discovery, given that this is a short game, so try it and see by yourself, I am pretty sure that most players will try to see every ending.

Good question, Lily. Should I start from the bloody footprints, the bodies or those weird creepy eyes?

Final Verdict
The God of Crawling Eyes is exactly what I expected: a short but complete horror game made for an event, simple but good. There are few locations, characters and the game is short but everything is pretty well made, no issues or bugs, and also a noteworthy graphic style and unlockables that are probably the best aspects of this small adventure (at least these are the two reasons I'm going to remember this title!). Being a game made for an event, so made in a short time, I can say it's pretty good, even if more creepy than really scary.
What is the God of the Crawling Eyes? Well, play and... SSSEEEEEE!
