This was an earlier type of battle system. As of now, it utilizes circular pads similar to the pokemon games. I don't think I can get a good background around a circular ground pad. Take a look at some of the newer ones, well just look at this:



As a designer, I don't think adding a square background would do any good. Do you have any suggestions?

I like both personally.

Maybe in the original image have the background tinted darker, that way the enemy and his block stand out more and it dims the rest of the screen to it's not so distracting.

Wow, that's exactly what I'm doing with the battle system, it's been that way for a while now. I usually dim the background a bit. I guess I could go back to the square backgrounds because it does add a bit of dimension to the battle scenes. Thanks for the feedback.
