The lady and the fox: a short tale

Hello people!
Last week I played "Leo and Cat", this week instead it's time for "Fancy and the Fox"! And this Fancy and the Fox is another event game with a human and an animal protagonist, ade in a month for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest by Des, using RPG Maker VX Ace.

This game is a short adventure that you can complete in 30 minutes, and it's a sort of interactive story. Unlike the previously mentioned game this game does not include the classical combat system, but as you can see from the pictures it has a distinct style.

A fox, a woman and... a spirit! Oh this is where our protagonist meet...

The story is pretty simple: two months ago the three sacred orbs were stolen from a village and now everything looks grey, but what's worse is that some people are missing, the spirts of the forest are becoming agressive and so on... in few words everything is going downhill, so Fancy, a young girl that lived in this town for all her life with her mother, decides do to look for the orbs after Isaac, her fiancee, disappeared while doing the same thing.
Inside the forest she's attacked by one of the restless spirits, anyway she's saved by a fox! What's going on? That's the beginning of a little big adventure...

This game is a classic adventure with exploration, interactions and little quests, but the important thing is looking for items, because if you do not find all of them you will get the bad ending, and that would be rather sad. So check everything to get all of them, ok? Every single shelf! For the rest this is just a simple and linear cute tale of love and hope, not an rpg or a puzzle game, of course.

Now here's the most distinct things of this game: the aestetics! The game not only looks like a a classic silent film in greyscale with some effects that seems to recall the old ruined cinematographic films, but also uses the intertitles instead of the traditional rpgmaker dialogue panels (to clearly recall the silent movies of the past). The graphic assets are both RTPs and some custom additions, even if there is a little style dissonance for example if you look at Fancy and little Flynn (check the picture below) the charsets are made of completely different styles. Anyway there are also some interesting aspects, for example how as you proceed in the story the colors slowly come back to the world... nice!
Sounds are all RTPs while music is original, made by Kevin MacLeod, and the piano themes clearly fits perfectly with the old silent movie theme.

A fox, a woman and... a boy! Hey this pic is slightly more coloured than the previous one but... I won't tell you more!

Final Verdict
Fancy and the Fox is a pretty interesting game even if it's really short and simple, a mini scenario that won't keep you involved for long, still it's competently made and has a distinct visual style but that's probably the only thing that make it stand out. Anyway if you have 30 minutes to spare play it, it's a game you can finish in a single sitting but you can also save anytime, so relax, take your time and enjoy the story, but if you are looking for challenges and making decisions you should probably look elsewhere. Still for a game made for an event, it's ok!
