An update on the stuff I'm currently working on for our Kickstarter campaign vid.
Friends of our
Facebook page will have seen these bits and pieces already.
FOREST RESOURCES
Several days (and counting) in the making, here's a screen grab of the relevant resource sheet:
I'm inspired by a park called Jesmond Dene near where I live in NE England and by the vibrant, tropical theme in the first level of Flashback (a la 1992).
FOREST MOCKUP
Below is a very rough, thrown together test scene of the resources. My process for things like this vary. Sometimes I design each object/element separately and then put them together later, but sometimes I create the pieces by drawing them all on top of one another as they would appear in-game:
FREE-FORM NOTES
The forest of the mad botanists (a working title) is an area within the Verdamm Outskirts. A cordoned nature reserve, the forest was once open as a thoroughfare, providing serene, picturesque strolls for locals.
A team of botanists assigned to the forest apparently went mad, however, and filled it with plants that they had bred to be capable of communicating with each other. It is now also home to a species of large, carnivorous beetle, which means that the only way to safely pass through the forest is via a network of bridges and walkways suspended above the floor.
Certain types of plant suspend sections of bridge with their vines and the only way to get them to lower them is to discern what kind of companion plant they are seeking to pollinate and create pairs.
It's very early days for this area and it won't be fully fleshed out until we've got our funding together, but I think it makes for an appealing sample to feature on our Kickstarter vid. It's a puzzle section and we have plans to make elements of the puzzle itself randomised and - in true OMNIS tradition - provide a different challenge and experience on each playthrough.
Ramble ends. Updates to follow.
