Abstract: Long ago a heroine fought against a necromancer poised to destroy their world. Now, centuries later, the Necromancer has returned.
Genre: Action RPG
Average Game Time: Depends on difficulty setting; 5-10 hours; less than 5 hours if experienced
Story / Setting / Purpose:
Legend has it that many years ago a young noble lady, Alvara of Ezel, witnessed the destruction of her village. In the rubble she found a shining sword that gave her the strength to save the Urolan Islands from destruction. But she was unable to slay the necromancer. Knowing of his return, she sealed herself away to be born anew to fight him again when the time comes.
Now she has been reborn.
Eloria the reincarnate of Alvara must journey to forge a new blade ans slay the Necromancer once and for all!
Character Bios:
Eloria - The main protagonist. Appearing in the temple where Alvara sealed herself away, she is summoned to fight against Alberich, the Necromancer, in a final battle.
Alvara - She is the past life of Eloria. She sealed herself away using a spell to cause her reincarnation to appear centuries later.
Alberich - The Necromancer. Once a kindhearted scientist, but his pursuit of power consumed him.

I have no idea why this game does not show more often in "Send me in coach" searches.
IF YOU ENJOYED OR ENJOY Legend of Zelda, this is a must try game.
If you do not enjoy this game, I authorize you to send me a "raspberry" in my private messages.
This may never win any awards. No GREAT story, although there is a story.
A bit of a problem with some overlapping maps in the forest.
BUT, for Zelda fans, the ABS is great.
I do not always finish games, but this one will be saved and possibly played again.:)

This was pretty much one of the most fun games I found on RMN and it looks like the developer dropped it here but never hung around :)
Great ABS game with several dungeons and different types of monsters, weapons and armor, etc....
Now I have to go find another game by volke_locke :)

Damn, I sure hope players who enjoy Zelda games find this.
I searched for more games by the developer but they were on DROPBOX? and you had to join giving them access to your emails IF I READ the "terms of service" correctly.
Sure would like to find more games like this.
Maybe now I will not be posting here all by my lonesome :(

They are a bit diverse in nature, but I do plan on getting back to making another game like this one eventually... except far better.
And, I love the Zelda Franchise, this game was inspired by it. And I'm glad another Zelda fan likes my game for what it is.

Don't worry, I simply improved the game's mechanics. In other words, the sword has a longer reach and the locks on the chests work better. I also improved the boss battles to make them more interesting, except for the boss of the cave where you get the meteor ore. Everything else was nothing more than a few small graphics fixes.
The longer reach on the sword should make battles easier as it allows you to avoid enemies better.

Pastlife: Legend of von Ätherluft will be the second game in the Pastlife Legends series... and it will be a lot better than this one.
I consider the Pastlife Legends series to be a spinoff of my Pastlife games which haven't yet been published. So, the second Pastlife Legends game is going to have to wait until I finish what I am currently working on.
I'll reserve a spot for both of you for testing. :)

Come on Mr. volke_locke, it's been over a year and no news on
another game ?? What's da scoop ??
Well, two things really.
1. I'm switching from VXAce to MV. So, I'm trying to finish all the projects with significant progress on VXAce, those with minimum progress are being moved to MV or being rebuilt on MV. Currently I'm waiting for a nice ABS to appear on MV.
2. College - I'm taking 3 math courses this semester (two of which are different levels of calculus. Needless to say, I haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on my hobby here... especially with employment factored in.
Esoteric, my current project, is a time sink too. My brain compels me to focus on finishing it. I've also got a project for school... so, the follow up game is around 3rd or 4th on the queue. I might take out another small project in between.
Maybe my projects, Dreamscape, The Tower, or Awakening. I'm not sure.
Pastlife: Legend of von Ätherluft is set in a more modern environment and so I've been wondering how to replace magical spells with more technological techniques. You'll still get a sword as a main weapon, but maybe the enemies have guns...

Standard ARPG. Game has free movement, so it's not as clunky as most rpgmaker ARPG's. Early game can be difficult when you dont have good gear. I ended up having to raid chests from higher tier dungeons to get by, meaning I died alot. Regular enemies are also quite tanky and you can easily get pinned to a corner by them, so you need to move very quickly. Bosses can be difficult, but the first elemental boss was much harder than the other ones, because she's early on in the game when you're really weak, and her attacks are the hardest to dodge.
Alot of backtracking across the entire span of the continent may be involved. There are two NPC's in town that tell u how to get past a desert maze, but the desert and the town are in opposite ends of the world, so you will probably have to go back and forth alot. The game is also heavily composed of sample maps. One thing that annoyed me was the field poison, I didn't quite understand how you contracted poison and antidotes dont help when the poison is immediately re-applied afterwards.
The post game bonus game was screwed. The ending cutscene left you stuck at a very slow movement speed, making it impossible to dodge enemies. I did manage to get through it, though so that wasn't too bad.

The solution for that maze is the same as in the original Legend of Zelda, if I recall correctly, so there's that.
