Masud did a terrible thing.

Now he wears the Mask of Odion, a cursed relic that's forced his soul into the body of a mummy. Worse is Odion himself, the former owner of Masud's new body.

Keep walking, sweetheart, Odion says, his phantasmal jawbone clacking and clattering. Every minute we spend in this God-forsaken desert is another minute your body rots in my tomb.

An ocean of sand stretches in front of them. How many more miles until they reach the tomb? How many more days until they break Anuket's Tear and lift the curse?

Features:
- Traverse a winding pyramid and other beautifully designed but dangerous areas in exploration-based gameplay.
- 33 relics to collect that boost stats and grant powerful new skills add layers of depth to the turn-based combat.
- A story featuring four well-developed characters with a focus on mystery, duty, and living in an unconventional family.
- Solve puzzles and riddles, and use relics to unlock new areas, while listening to the game's original soundtrack. You can get it here.

You can get the soundtrack to Born Under the Rain here.

Also, if you like my music, I've uploaded the soundtrack to The Heart Pumps Clay as well. You can get it here.

Let me just say that I love this game. You seriously nailed just about everything about it. My one complaint is how balls-hard the Sphinx is.

I'd love to write a review about this because it is by far the best VX Ace game I've ever played, but if I can't beat these battles, that might be a no-go. Also, I'm playing on easy.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

That's a hell of an endorsement!

Someone posted a video playthrough, and while their battle tactics aren't going to help you much (they cheated their way up to level 99), the video might help you find relics you missed. The pyramid is pretty big and there's a lot of stuff you can find before the Sphinx fight, especially once you find some of the relics that unlock hidden paths. For example, the Bastet's Eye relic lets you enter mirrors.

One trick that might help you: when it's a character's turn, you can press the cancel button to take your turns in a different order. (This is mentioned in the help file, but I don't really expect most people to read help files.)

Small one guys, not a glitch, just an oversight. When you visit the town for the first time and Rashida and Odion go off and leave the party they are still available in the menu. Not an issue, just noticeable since they'd made parting gestures and comments.

Oh and that swap order thing is useful, given Rashida's relic makes her hit for 4 times damage if the target is unharmed, she always goes first.

Found an actual glitch this time. If you save in the room with the snake trap and then exit the game when you reload that save the doors are all closed but there are no snakes in the room for you to fight so you can't proceed. (It's a good thing I'm a serial saver).

Ok this one is weird. I get this error in some (maybe 1 in 10) combats

It doesn't happen as the battle is opening, but when I pick my first action, no matter who the action is from. It throws me out and if I retry the combat the same thing happens but, and this is the weird part, I downloaded the game again just in case I'd got some kind of glitch and in the second folder I used I copied over the save file and I can complete the battle and continue, and then 8 or 10 combats later it happens again, in the newly downloaded game, so I transfered my latest save file back to the original, and I can continue. It's just odd, I'm swapping between two identical game folders in order to continue.

That's really weird, especially since I haven't heard about anything like that from anyone else. I'll send you a version with that script removed, since it doesn't do anything super vital (mostly just reduces lag in menus), though I'm leery of removing that script from the main download unless this is a problem other people are also having (and also unless I'm sure this fixes it for you).

Thanks for the update and it appears it did fix it (also I didn't notice any increased lag in the menus without it). I was almost finished so it was just the last dungeon but there were more than 10 battles in that section and it didn't glitch once so I'm calling that a win. I'll go back to an earlier save after I've had some sleep and give it a more through test but I'm happy enough to be able to complete it without having to play footsie with the thing.

If no-one else gets this then leave it as it is, if I want to replay the game, I've got the version you sent me.

e: ok sleep achieved and I went back and played a solid 30 minutes with the new 1.1 version and no glitches, so many thanks for the fast response.
I'm really enjoying this game but am having a serious problem with one of the Sphinx puzzles. It's the only one I haven't been able to figure out. Its the one with the blocks and the clues that say orange is equal to two reds, etc. (Maybe not the exact wording, but I'm sure you know what I mean). I simply cannot understand what I am supposed to be doing here. Help!?

There are two ways to get through that dungeon. If you can't figure that puzzle out, you can always go around the other side instead.
@Evilmumrah: If you're set on completing that puzzle, here's a hint:

Think of it like a math problem where red is equal to 1. Knowing that, you can convert every color to a number (e.g. orange is X number of reds). Move the blocks into the center position of each of the four areas so that they're equal to the numerical value of the black block.
Oh, so there's really no point in solving the puzzle. Thanks. Good to know. Now, if only I could beat Anuket in a fair fight. ;-)
Got it. And I guess there was a point, after all. I got another relic.
Just finished my LP (it'll be a while before it's up, though). I completed it on Normal mode, got all treasures. Question - what were the little mask guys in the various mirror rooms about? Just little silliness?

I'll be writing a review for it after the LP is up... it's a great game on most fronts, though there are some things that are... more than a little annoying and frustrating. Mainly battle length. That said, I really enjoyed most parts of the game and had a lot of fun collecting everything and exploring the areas.

Good job guys!
Ok, I love this game. BUT I want to kill you for the ending. Seriously! You can't just end a game like that! Now I won't sleep tonight dreaming of the after-story!!

In any case, congratulations for the best dinamyc I ever found in an rpg: not only open world, but also a full combination of tricks and traps and laughs and puzzles and, most of all, collectables. I really like the idea of the relic mercant, to display them all.
@Liberty: the mirror Masuds were just little Easter eggs. The one that had the alternate portrait/sprite was a little thing Indrah and Leen did while goofing around during development and I thought it would be a fun surprise to sneak it into the game itself. Since you're going into mirrors I justified it as it being a "mirror self" kind of thing. But, yeah, really it's just silliness.

@Zelifano: Thanks for playing! I'll never apologize for the ending, though!
I've never seen some of these Magellan battlers on his site, where did they come from??? :0 I must knoooooooow ヾ(´〇`)ノ

This game was a lot of fun to play at times, but, I can't help but to notice the commentary about battle length, and the continued suggestions that players play on easy to alleviate that. Which kinda worries me, because I played on easy, and was thinking they were lasting too long somewhere between the second delve into the pyramid (where you fight the sphinx) and the dungeon that opens after the sphinx gives you the map.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just weird like that?

*Edit: Well, I'm not sure if it was as-so-much a matter of battles taking too long, though that might have been a factor. It might also be a case of how frequent they are, and how I was generally doing the same thing in each fight.
The game was really fun, enough for me to save it and not delete it as soon as I finished it (It doesn't sound to be much, but that means I wanted to have it at hand to make other people play it).
But, the same as the rest, my main (and probably only) problem were the battles.
I played the first to battles in normal, they did seem particularly difficult but long so I decided to pass to easy, but to be honest that didn't change much (at least in my opinion).
Maybe it didn't help that, since I wanted to finish the battles as fast as I could, I always used the same strategy with some little changes depending of the battle.
Oh but apart from that, as someone who loves puzzles, I will says that yours where pretty good and entertaining.

@Zelifano:

Yeah, Masud is Masika's father. I hid your post because the fact that he is her father is hidden from the player for a good portion of the game and just hinted at, so it's a bit of a spoiler. Rashida basically reveals that he is during one scene (though she's unaware herself). If you want to put your question in spoiler tags, I'll unhide your post.

@Atlas: Here you go: http://cyanyurikago.web.fc2.com/

@Marrend/Aisling: Locke's working on a gameplay update that'll make more battles optional, modify the difficulty settings, and possibly add some more depth to enemy behavior.
this game is just beautiful! I only started it, but I'm enjoying it so much!
