Announcement

I am the walrus!

Hey Dudes,
I don't think that this piece of software has any fan. But if there is someone so thirsty for any Dude related experience, I have bad news fer ya.
I'm pulling off the download.
Cuz it includes some tracks from movie's original score. And I don't want to have any problems with that.
If Someone has an uncontrollable desire to play The Bad Lebowski, call me (pm me).

Game Design

Post coitus: Do you like sex, Mr Lebowski?

I know this quote ain't the best and the most fitting out there, but I couldn't find anything better for this postmortem. So, I did made picture to make it up.

I know, Its even worse than these I made fer the game.

What was it like to make game in five hours? How did I distribute my time? Were I cheating?
Yes, I was. Cuz there wouldn't be any game otherwise. Before Sapphire IV, I tried to implement XAS. I spent like five hours with it. And In the end It wasn't working. So I returned to the stadium before the implementation of the system. That was about hour and half before the end of the time limit. Sapphire was beautifully ease to use. The skills I use are the ones from the demo and enemies don't seem to cause any damage to Dude. It was made in hurry after all.
Otherwise, I spent most of the time doing graphics. I'm superslow at this and it took me almost three hours. On the other hand creating the game's concept was pretty fast procedure. I was thinking about some alternatives in previous days, but they all went through the window in the moment I started with the development. There was The Bad, The Bad and The Bad. You would play as Angel Eyes, Angel Ayes 2 and Angel Eyes 3 on their way to the buried treasure. They would kill Bad Carson and Blondie on the way. I spent quite a time before even starting the development with thinking up some adequate battle system for this concept and I couldn't think of any. And I didn't want to steal the one from Dead Man badaptation.
Other Idea was to make adaptation of Kick-Ass called Bad-ass. The plan was to tell story through badly scanned pages of the original comics. The biggest problem with this one was the language barrier as my issues are in Czech.
There were other ideas and some were pretty good, actually. Breaking badaptation, Sweet Sweetback Bad-asss Song, Intolerance, Bad Books (Badaptation of British sitcom Black Books)...
I chose The Big Lebowski for its undying popularity, which caused by fact the dude Dude is high all the time. I made my version of the story adequately rude with its load of cuzzwords and sexism. The story creation was simple. I was thinking about two not so nerdish film fans as they are recalling events of the flic.
After finishing the art and the story only two hours left from five. My intention was to make gameplay in whole three hours. But I think I accomplished everything in terms of work with RPG Maker, I wanted. Graphics were the bigger problem as I made totally disastrous B-tile.
Gameplay-wise, I wanted to make brawler in fashion of old 8-bit era Beat 'em ups and badaptations of Double Dragon for ZX Spectrum and other microcomputers. I think the movement is quite reminiscent, animations are lacking or unfitting ones, taken from Sapphire engine.
I think this wouldn't be better game with normal development frame. There would be only small benefits. I would make game an actual challenge and graphics would be more consistent, clean.
The lat thing was soundtrack. Its dastardly taken from the original score of the flic. I'm not too proud on this one.
And that's it. My postmortem. Time to move on, to play other games to gam mak bigger projects.

Enjoy!
