I am proud to present to you Epic Odyssey, a traditional rpg that I have worked on since 2011. You are invited to embark as a young knight who unknowingly set in motion events that will forever change the fate of the world. Along your journey across the fantastical land of Elysium a handful of loyal companions will assist you on your mission.

Epic Odyssey is a pretty large game (about 25hrs. for the story, another 10+hrs. for all side quests and other events). There are over 205 different enemies (no palette swaps) to encounter and add to your Beastiary. There are also over 90 different items, accessories, and armors to synthesize!

Other features include:
Many custom made skills and spells.
In battle the "Attack" command uses a Judgment Ring system to gain rage.
Each character has their own unique skill set.
4 Rage Overdrive skills per character.
14 different windows to give your adventure its own look.
Custom battle backgrounds.
Take screenshots of your adventure using the F10 key.

Epic Odyssey now has a Difficulty selection!

First off I want to say I have cleaned up my "Downloads" section of my game page. There are now only three different variations of Epic Odyssey. The first one is the full RTP version, the second is the fullscreen version (I've kept this one separate from the first because it seems to lag the game a little bit in fullscreen), and the third is the GameJolt.com version. Now on to the update!

In order to satisfy all players, with varying tastes, of how hard they like their gameplay to be I have created a difficulty adjustment to Epic Odyssey!


Just go to "System" in the Main Menu and press enter.


Then just select what difficulty you want your play experience to be.

The game difficulty are as follows:
EASY = Less HP and less evade chance than NORM
NORM = Default difficulty (less evade and crit than the last version of the game)
HARD = A little more HP and more evade and critical chance than NORM. + more gold
EPIC = More like the last version of the game but with even more HP ++ more gold

I was in my 20's when I beat Champion mode. I would say that "Champion mode" was easier than the bandits boss since it took me at least 5 tries to beat the bandits boss compared to beating champion mode on my first try.

What I meant by whole turns is the number didn't drop when it was my character's turn to attack. The bug must be on the program itself since it isn't dropping.

Why is the game letting me use the attack command when magic based attacks are used when that character is silenced? It's like letting me select a spell but the character doesn't cast it. However, the game won't let me select magic spells when I'm silenced.


Okay so you did beat it in Champion mode that's good. I never played tested it at that level. Now I have beaten the bandit boss on my first try every time.
So the "Blind" effect never counts down? I have noticed that sometimes when a character has a status effect and the enemy inflicts the status effect again on that character that it will stack. That might be the issue.
And about the "Attack" command not grayed out when Phoenicia or Zircon is silenced... that is a mistake on my part. Just please keep in mind not to use the command when they are silenced. I will try to work on it until then.
Attention everyone, I have just updated Epic Odyssey. I have fixed the "Attack" command for Phoenicia and Zircon when they are afflicted with the "Silence" effect.
Now since they can't use magic they will run up to the enemy and physically attack them. They aren't warriors so their attacks will be very weak but you will at least gain rage for it. This fix is more like an upgrade than anything so it's not necessary to redownload if you don't want to. If you do want to, just copy your save file and paste it into the new version.

I have made another update to Epic Odyssey but is a very small one. Whenever you enter any house or Inn, if there is an item to obtain that is not in a chest, there will be a "twinkle" effect at that location. This should eliminate the tediousness of finding items in these areas.
Season's Greetings everyone! I have have gone over the recipes in the game and decided to make the gathering of the materials a bit easier. How? By giving a certain merchant at the Plains Caravan an upgrade.


Just go to Trader Art and he will trade materials with you! The only catch is they have to be from the same type: Plants, Gemstones, Pelts, Horns, etc.

I also slashed the prices for the armor recipes so they are more affordable.

And finally I have made a list of all recipes in game with descriptions and their general locations. You can find that at the Summary section.
Did you have to make the game a veritable grindfest? I would have liked it, but why does a knight and a mermaid need to go visit the inn after 2 battles. That's so stupid. It's going to take forever to finish the first quest, and I can't even upgrade their items because of the stupid level requirements, so that means I have to kill monsters for 5 hours to get to level 20. Is that your idea of 35 hours of game content? It might go better with a third party member. Never seen a game where you start at level 10+ and still can't beat a couple of slimes without losing almost all your health on two characters. I'm an RPG-maker veteran gamer, never seen anything like this...a game is supposed to be fun, not put you in a bad mood. If I want to grind, I'll go play Path of Exile...
I seriously don't know what your talking about. The "grinding" in my game is the same as for most traditional RPGs. And not as bad as you are saying. I can get to level 20 within at most 2 hours. So don't spread lies like that. You are the only person out of 700+ downloaders that is complaining about it.

If it is such a "grindfest" how did you possibly get to the inn at Gar'Mal after 2 encounters? That is just impossible.
For some reason or another you are being way overly critical to the point of lying about my game.

This is a really cool game,hard battles sometimes but ok and fair.
In wilderness post i dont get an
volt ring recipe(mentonied in the guide,and i cant get the awake bell from the soldier.I went back to the city and started the loveletter quest after i went to wilderness post first time but is that the reason?

If you haven't found it already, the "Escape" command comes up when you hit the right arrow key.

So you can't get the volt ring recipe? It's a treasure type item just like you find in the houses and inns so it should be there unless you already have a volt ring recipe.
So you beat Thunderchief and then went back to the Captain's Office and it wasn't in the dresser at the far right side? I added a "twinkle" effect to all treasure items that are not inside chests. So you should see it if you hadn't already taken it.
Also, the soldier from the Guard Quarters should give you the Awake Bell as long as you have the "love letter" in your inventory. Do you have it?

I got the escape command.
The recipe and bell is there when it should be there.
My bad,its nothing strange with it.
The twinkle effect was a good idea since the game is big and it saves alot of time.
Are you having plans to do another game?
Whew! That's a relief! I've realized that its very hard to make a game totally bug free upon release. But thanks to you and some others past efforts I believe all the major and most minor bugs are taken care of. Been bug free for the past 4 or 5 months so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As for my future plans... I bought the new RPG Maker MV about a month ago. It looks very promising. I'm a fan of Yanfly's work and it looks like he/she is carrying a lot of Melody Battle Engine (which is what Epic Odyssey runs on) over to the new maker. So I'm looking pretty hard at that right now. I was wanting to do a Final Fantasy Tactics style game that takes place during the Crimson War, a prequel to Epic Odyssey. But I don't know... I'm still thinking on it.
Attention everyone I have made a little update to the game. I have increased the drop rates from battles. This should also help make it a bit easier to obtain the materials you need for your recipes.

If you're moving in this "invisible mode", you can scroll on the entire city map, and you CAN talk to people. I managed to exit Tarsus, hoping the character reappears, but NO. So I went round the teacher and talked to him from his back, and it was OK.

Hi Nagi82. I have found the bug and fixed it. It turns out that if you talk to the children before you speak to the teacher it will cause your character to become transparent and passable. That's because I accidentally left a bit of code in the children's event tab while I was putting together that mission.

I have deleted that code. Plus, I added code to the teacher so that when you speak to him, he will undo transparent and passable from your character.

To everyone out there who has downloaded my game before this post you can either redownload the updated game or if you don't, just make sure that after you found all of the children in this quest that you speak to the teacher first before speaking to the children and you will be fine.

and I'd suggest to lower the mp costs of heal a bit - its rly picy, least at the beginning of the game - but may just because of my preference: just walked back to the inn all the time instead of using manapotions ^^

well anyway: thank you for the game and I'm looking forward to your next project

You're most welcome, Mahina! It's always great to hear from people who are enjoying the game.

I have fixed Zircon's name in some of his skill descriptions. I originally called him Zarkon but midway through making the game I decided to change it because it sounded very close to the gemstone zircon.

About the mp cost of heal... I agree it can be pricey in the beginning, but as you level up, the gold dropped from defeated monsters also increases. My goal was to have a balance between going to the inn to recover and stocking up on potions.
Also, you can do this...
Try buying armor recipes from the Armor Shop in Tarsus, Valise, Strata, Nei Borne, and Polaris. These synth armors will give a bonus to your character's mana and other stats.
There is also an accessory called the Sage's Amulet. It reduces the cost of all spells by half. The recipe can be found at Nailum's Fist. There is also a Magic Water Plus recipe (restores 200MP). It can be found at the Orc Camp.

Hello everyone. I have uploaded RPG Maker VX RTP to my "Downloads".
This program is required to be installed if you wish to play any VX game. This will resolve, hopefully, any problems with missing files.


UPDATE:
I originally could not release a full RTP version of my game because the Game Maker would not extract any files larger than 128MB. But today I have learned how to get around that problem!

The new version of Epic Odyssey is now on file!
Hello Utopiablue.
I played this again and wonder if the bestiary is wrong with the bandits?The drops is right but the stealable things is for Bandit in Bestiary:Rohan oak and Pelt but it is : Ether fabric and potion. Other Bandit Quartz and Bora root but it is Oboron.I know it is written drops but if you hunt for something like in my case wood ,the bestiary is what you look at.And with the most other it is For example Rohan oak if it says so in the Bestiary.
I mean that it should always be stealable things mentioned.Or am i wrong?
The Frenzy Amulet recipe in
Polaris in the Arena ,i just cant find it.I look in the item guide but..no.

EDIT:i maybe thinks wrong about the Bestisary,but it should be stealable thing to maybe for the next time..
ONE Big or little weird bug is if you are in
the Gar Mal swamp in the secret tunnel to skypearl and call you out to strata you end up there invincible !!?i tried to go in to Strata but i was still invincible .I tried another stone to Nei Borne but still invincible.

Hey kenlan! I have fixed that bug you mentioned. That was an oversight of mine... didn't expect anyone to warp out while going through that pathway. Now transparency will now be removed if you use any Call Stone.

About the beastiary, if you don't use Domino's "Reveal" skill then the "steal" page for those enemies will not be shown in the beastiary. Only the "drops" page will be shown.

The Frenzy Amulet recipe is there... you might need to do a little reading...
