I am proud to present to you Epic Odyssey, a traditional rpg that I have worked on since 2011. You are invited to embark as a young knight who unknowingly set in motion events that will forever change the fate of the world. Along your journey across the fantastical land of Elysium a handful of loyal companions will assist you on your mission.

Epic Odyssey is a pretty large game (about 25hrs. for the story, another 10+hrs. for all side quests and other events). There are over 205 different enemies (no palette swaps) to encounter and add to your Beastiary. There are also over 90 different items, accessories, and armors to synthesize!

Other features include:
Many custom made skills and spells.
In battle the "Attack" command uses a Judgment Ring system to gain rage.
Each character has their own unique skill set.
4 Rage Overdrive skills per character.
14 different windows to give your adventure its own look.
Custom battle backgrounds.
Take screenshots of your adventure using the F10 key.

Epic Odyssey now has a Difficulty selection!

First off I want to say I have cleaned up my "Downloads" section of my game page. There are now only three different variations of Epic Odyssey. The first one is the full RTP version, the second is the fullscreen version (I've kept this one separate from the first because it seems to lag the game a little bit in fullscreen), and the third is the GameJolt.com version. Now on to the update!

In order to satisfy all players, with varying tastes, of how hard they like their gameplay to be I have created a difficulty adjustment to Epic Odyssey!

Just go to "System" in the Main Menu and press enter.

Then just select what difficulty you want your play experience to be.

The game difficulty are as follows:
EASY = Less HP and less evade chance than NORM
NORM = Default difficulty (less evade and crit than the last version of the game)
HARD = A little more HP and more evade and critical chance than NORM. + more gold
EPIC = More like the last version of the game but with even more HP ++ more gold

Enjoy!

Epic RPG. Took around a year to finally finish, since it was a tough game. The version I have does not have difficulty settings. Enemies level with the player's party, making random encounters consistently difficult. However, I'm pretty happy to have finally beaten this game just now, since it was a long one just sitting at the top of the unfinished list for so long.

The game is a grind, make no mistake. Most of the beginning and midgame dungeons are extremely long... and as mentioned the enemies are on level with you at all points in the game so battles are fairly demanding. Two and a half years ago I downloaded this game and made it as far as bird lady, who is extremely powerful and put a hard stop to my progress back then. Mostly because I didn't have the healer. However, check this, the entire time i was playing, I never knew there were limit breaks in the game. LOL. So when I found out about them, I tried fighting bird lady again, still got my ass whooped. Becaues, to be honest, that battle was a RNG dependent one and if she snorted the character you need, you're screwed. She has extremely high magic DPS and it's very difficult to survive off high potion plusses. Against her.

Anyway fast forward to some time later, I dont remember how but I managed to finally beat the bird lady. Just wow. Progress was finally made. I didn't believe it. But after the king boss I went thru the game pretty slowly, thinking I was already at the end game. I was wrong, but I wasn't far from it.

But it was basically the endgame. Going anywhere in the airship and just try to farm essential craft ingredients was all. There were several places I found that had nothing to do with the storyline, most prominently the snow city that had sepette as the BGM for some reason. It had a random arena where I could farm high potion plusses. I farmed there a while in order to collect enough potions to deal with bird lady, and it helps. But I was worried that if I get too high level, enemies will also be too strong, and bosses may be unbeatable. So I stopped fighting, and just tried to steal-and-run to get the craft items. It went alright, I didn't have all the top tier equips but enough to get by.

Final stretch
So just now I decided to go into the ruins and went up a few set of stairs. And theres the real final boss. He hits like a truck from oblivion, within a few turns everyone was pretty dead. Except the cloaker and the frog. Cloaker cant be hit and frog had reflect. Speaking of which, reflect literally carried me thru this battle. At one point it was just frog sitting there with reflect, doing damage to the boss and dodging his smashes like the pro he is. Then eventually the boss ran out of mana... lol so I revived everyone and it was gg from there. I noticed that I was missing a ton of side bosses, but I have no idea where any side quest would be, since i did all the bounties. Do these side quests crop up in the endgame? Well I have no idea, and the main questline is finished so, hooray.

Thanks, was a long run.
Thanks for playing, bicfarmer! Sorry to hear that you had a tough time with the old version of the game. Was this version the one that didn't have Trader Art at Plains Caravan? If it is then I feel for your pain. In the updated version I made changes to help make it easier to obtain materials and hopefully take away at least some of the grind. And the Difficulty Adjustment makes the game much more enjoyable.

If you want, you can play the newer version of Epic Odyssey using your old save file.
Just download and install the game then copy and paste your save file into the new game folder.

As for the side quests they should all be playable. Check out the Game Walkthrough Guide for their locations and info.

Thanks again bicfarmer, and everyone else who has played Epic Odyssey. Over 2000 downloads! That's awesome!

Now for some news...
I would like to say that I am currently working on new game! It is going to use a tactics style gameplay and the story will take place before and during the Crimson War! So expect to see some familiar faces!
Was I mistaken or didn't this game have an achievement setting? I downloaded the newest version but should I have downloaded the Game Jolt one?
Ew. Nothing worse than an RPG that can only claim high playtime due to an outrageously empty but huge map. Also, the whole attacking mini-game is the most annoying thing I've ever seen in an RPG, and worst of all, the damage is only a tiny bit better even if hit all 3 spots on the minigame with no option to disable it because not everyone wants to play your stupid annoying minigame. Oh, and nothing better than having to heal blind and poison every single fight over and over, even in the first battles of the game.

No bueno.
Hello, I decided to take a short break from my second game and stop by to check out how my first game post was doing. I'm glad to see it is still receiving some attention after all this time.

The achievement's system is only available on the Game Jolt version.

I am sorry this game is not to your liking. That one gripe you have with the attacking minigame... I explained the purpose of the "Attack" command in like the third post of page 1. I said this:

author=Utopiablue
No, its not a bug that was how I designed it. There are only two ways to gain rage points, you either take damage (7 points rage) or you use the attack ring (5 rage per hit). It was to give the "Attack" command more purpose. I have played many RPGs where once you gained a few skills, the "Attack" command became useless because you could just spam skills from then on. So the sole purpose for the attack ring is not so much as a damage dealer but as a quicker way to gain rage.

So, the "Attack" command is completely optional.

Also, the high playtime is due not for the huge map but because of all the quests, sub-quests, events, and story dialog cut scenes. I highly recommend you look at the Walkthrough Guide. If this old school RPG is still not your thing. I am sorry and I hope you check out my next RPG which will be Tactical in nature.
