A Demo About Saving the World from Monster Event

This is a demo review.
This is a review for v3.1. My playtime: 03:46;01.

Intro
Demise is a game about an event that took place in a specific time and how there is a problem with the schedule. Just like most rpg that introduce evil bosses, the hero will try to save the world from these bosses.

Graphics
The indoor and dungeon mappings are decent. although the mapping is quite bland outdoors (like the spot before Mt. Volcano). I love the lighting that's put in the game and the boss battle looks great with the HP bar being placed on top of the screen.

Now i finally can see the boss' HP.

Music
The music sounds pleasant and i don't get bored after listening to it a lot of times. Some of the sfx reminds me of Breath of Fire game (or perhaps it is from that game?), especially the sound when you choose an option.

Story
I might want to admit that the prologue sounds a bit weird on the wording. There are also some minor grammar mistakes on some of the dialogues, but i don't see it as a problem. Some of the dialogues are quite funny even when the characters are trying to progress with the main story.

The game
The first thing that i would like to say is that the character moves very fast. There is also diagonal movement (which works smoothly) that can be very helpful when navigating through areas. You can also dash to make the character moves faster and you even can enable auto dash in the setting. However, sometimes the auto dash are turned off after a certain cutscenes, especially when you're still in the very first area.

The game has several difficulty settings that can be changed in the options. I played with 1 difficulty setting although i changed it to 0 near end game because it's starting to be hard to kill bosses.

Speaking of bosses, there are some bosses in the game. Bosses usually have a lot of HP and nasty attack and you might want to wear proper equipments and weapon to beat it. There are some hidden bosses in the game (2, according to the Tips file that's included in the game file) although i can only find one (in Mt. Volcano). I think that the hidden boss is too strong to beat at the current equipment level though (it can kill you in 2 hits and your damage barely scratches it). There is also a boss fight where you're supposed to lose the battle. The game will kindly let you know about it by sounding a certain sound before battle.

The game doesn't have any random encounter. All enemies can be seen on the map and they don't respawn at all. The battle used an ATB (active time battle), although you can turn it off using a key item.

There are some equipments that you can buy at the shops in each town. These equipments cost gold that can be earned from killing enemies. The enemies, however, don't respawn so it's kinda hard to grind for money to buy such expensive equipments.

Just want to point out that the game has a cool looking introduction scene.

You'll have a maximum of 2 party members throughout the demo, one swordsman and one magician. The magician can cast some spell at the cost of MP and although some MP can be restored by guarding, the enemies' damage tend to make it useless since you'll end up using the MP that you regained for healing.

The swordsman has a lot of technique that needs a certain amount of TP (that can be obtained by hitting or being hit by the enemy). There is also a skill that can increase your TP a little although i find it to be inefficient because you'll get more dps by doing normal attack. There are a lot of techniques that can be used by the swordsman and i find it kinda hard to select which one to use, especially with ATB being turned on.

Aside from the technique, there is a limit skill that can only be used by the swordsman. These limits don't cost anything to cast although it has cooldown after casting. I find 2 limits (that can stun the enemy) in the game (through story progression), although the game said that you can find more from other places.

The magician has a lot of healing spells and 2 element attacking spell, fire and earth. It's such a pity that you can't use healing spells on the enemy though since there are a lot of enemies that's weak from holy spell and since there are various elements in the game, it's kinda hard to use the spells effectively since the magician doesn't have all element in his attacking spells.

The game also offers a side quest. A side quest giver can be found easily because of the bubble near them. These side quest is also being logged in the journal. It's such a pity that the main quest doesn't logged in the same place though; the main quest is logged as a summary of the recent event in other menu.

Pros:
- Fast walking speed
- No random encounter
- Quest journal
- Difficulty level
- Customizable battle option (ATB or not)

Cons:
- Hidden bosses are too hard for current equipment set
- Unable to grind money and exp

Conclusion
This is an enjoyable game with no random encounter and ATB. The ATB option can also be turned off if you want.

Final rating: 4/5
This is such a good game. I love the animation and the interaction between characters.

This was a pleasant surprise to see after a long shift.
My mango, thanks for the review. Really means a lot.

Some responses:
I might want to admit that the prologue sounds a bit weird on the wording.
>Looking back, I should change the wording on that.

(in Mt. Volcano). I think that the hidden boss is too strong to beat at the current equipment level though (it can kill you in 2 hits and your damage barely scratches it).
>A lot of people had the same complaints so for now, I'll probably lock up the room un till I finish the game so I can properly balance him. (Although people say that the first superboss is fine, he's somewhere in the first dungeon. I believe there's a pathway in the first room after the spring)

There are some equipments that you can buy at the shops in each town. These equipments cost gold that can be earned from killing enemies. The enemies, however, don't respawn so it's kinda hard to grind for money to buy such expensive equipments.
>The respawning is a bit finicky. It takes around 30 seconds for them to respawn I believe, but you have to be near the place you killed them in order for the timer to start. Unless I screwed something up in the current version. Wouldn't be surprised.

There are some collision errors that i find when i played the game.
>That map in general is pretty garbage, I'll replace it in the next version.

The game also crashes when you press F12 to reset the game.
>Shit.

>Also I swore I got rid of those pesky sunlight overlay.

Again, thanks so much for the review. Much appreciated my man.

you're welcome! it's great to see the responses you put there :)

some reply to your responses:
i did find the area that seems to be the boss area (the cave that has a body of water in it) but i can't seem to access it although i'm sure i had turned all torches on. well, perhaps i'm missing something too since the crystal in the final area is black colored.

i'm not sure if leaving the area restart the 30 seconds timer (i tried to revisit all maps and found no monsters), but again, i'm sure i finished each dungeon for more than 30 seconds.
