Employment was a Mistake

This month is going to be a short update, primarily because most of the work I've done last month consists of back end stuff that doesn't make for good progress report fodder. The other reason is that, a few weeks after the last blog, I managed to secure myself a new job and have been trying to adjust. I think I've started to get the hang of it, but I usually only have the energy to work on the game for about 30 minutes each day on weekdays. But hey, at least I don't have to worry about being thrown out on the streets, so that's a plus.

Last month I said I would be focuing on editing the script and designing the final dungeon. Today, I'm happy to accounce that I've in the middle of editing the script and designing the final dungeon. These are the reports that I know you all look forward to reading about each month, am I right?

Okay, but seriously, Chapter 5 is the biggest chapter of them all in terms of required content, so you'll have to forgive me if I take a liiiiiiittle longer than I usually do to show off progress. ESPECIALLY progress that doesn't contain massive spoilers.

The good news is that none of this is particularly hard work. Nothing anywhere near the level of designing endgame logic. The problem is that there is just a lot of work that needs doing, and I have very little time each day to do it. I'll hope to be used to this new job soon enough that I'll have more energy to spend on this game, but that will take time.

Overall, this month was a positive one for me, personally. I'll do my best to make sure that positive development reflects into PotF development progress. Thanks so much for reading!

I mean, if you have to take a hiatus from gammak until things become more stable, do it. I don't know how many times I've put projects on hiatus because RL junk events got in the way.

I was expecting something less encouraging from the title. Glad to see I was mislead. Congratulations on your new job, even if it has slowed down the development process somewhat.

Since you've been working on the final dungeon, I'm kind of curious as to how you want to handle such a climactic part of the game, proportions-wise. Is it going to be a whole chapter spent just in one enormous dungeon area, perhaps going back and forth between multiple parties? Or will the dungeon be similar in size to previous ones, while important moments in terms of story and perhaps also gameplay are still set before or after it?

Also, if I may be so bold to make a suggestion for a future blog: I'd be very interested in reading your thoughts on design philosophies behind and the purpose of a final dungeon in general, both in terms of narrative and gameplay. Basically, what do you think a final dungeon needs in order to accomplish its goals as an appropriate finale?

Whatever you do, though, go at it at your own pace. If you die from burnout, that will definitely not help PotF get completed sooner. I'm excited for what comes next, regardless of how long it takes.
Well, I don't mind if you take a break from PotF because of RL issues.
After all, if you wouldn't be able to work anymore because you neglected RL issues, then everything would be for nothing.
Take your time! It's not like a Purgatory appeared and the world is ending as we speak! i think

Thanks, everyone. Don't worry, I'll be able to get back to work on this more as I get settled into the new job. I appreciate your concern!

While I think it's a little early to be talking about the end of PotF with that much detail, I wouldn't mind rambling a bit about my thoughts on final dungeon design as a whole if that's what everyone wants.

Is this something people are generally interested in? I'll maybe write about it halfway through this month so I can still give monthly progress reports.
