This is a quick reference tool to remind players of some of the basics of PotF

Every element mentioned here should be learned naturally through playing. This is merely a quick refresher of how the game generally works in case there is an element you wish to quickly check to remind yourself of. It is neither a walkthrough nor hints about specific points of the game.

If you have any questions not covered here and aren't related to instances within the game itself, feel free to ask below!

Stat Breakdown

  • Health Points (HP): The amount of health a character has. When it hits 0, the character will be unable to fight.

  • Stamina Points (SP): The amount of stamina a character has. This affects the pool of actions your characters use as well as combine with Armor to block incoming Physical and Technique damage.

  • Strength: The raw strength of a character. This affects basic attack and Drive damage you will inflict.

  • Technique: The dexterity and finesse of a character. This affects attack item and Burst Drive damage you will inflict.

  • Armor: The physical defense of a character. This combines with SP to reduce Physical and Technique Drive damage.

  • Psyche: The mental fortitude of a character. This reduces the amount of Magic damage a character receives.

Damage Types

Offensive abilities are tagged as one of three categories, each one drawing on different stats, so remember them when planning your strategy.

  • Physical: The attacker's Strength stat minus the target's combined Armor and current SP. Basic attacks and most Drives use this formula.

  • Technique: The attacker's Technique stat minus the target's combined Armor and current SP. Attack items, magic attacks, and most Burst Drives use this formula.

  • Magic: The rarest and strongest damage type. The attacker's Tech stat minus the target's Psyche stat. Magic attacks ignore target's Stamina reduction.

Stamina and Guard Break

In order to inflict Physical or Technique damage on an enemy, it is often necessary to attack their SP first to leave them open before moving in for direct damage. Drives with a Guard Break tag will directly damage the target's SP pool via one of the three aforementioned damage types, but will ignore reduction by enemy Stamina and cut final damage in half. Use these abilities to both open up foes to further damage and reduce their pool of available options.

This applies to your party as well. Letting your Stamina drop too low will leave your characters vulnerable to heavy damage. Mismanage your Stamina, and your more powerful attacks may glance harmlessly off even weaker foes as they tear you to shreds.

General Gameplay Hints

  • Rotate your save files: Due to the survival nature of the game, poor resource management may result in you having no healing or attack items in the middle of a battleground. It won't hurt to have backup save files in case things go south.

  • Use your items: That being said, hoarding supplies is just as dangerous. You can only carry a limited amount of each type of item, so collecting them might lead to being unable to pick up new ones later down the road.

Attack items can also break an enemy's defensive or counter stance, and cost no Stamina to use, so chuck away!

  • Take a moment to examine your enemies: Battles are turn-based for a reason: Attacking without a plan will often lead to your best attacks just bouncing off foes. In battle, press SHIFT when highlighting a foe to see a complete breakdown of their stats, and plan a strategy on how to dispatch them.

  • Be an explorer!: You can jump over small gaps in the way just by moving towards them, as well as climb certain walls! Use these technniques to progress through the game and set foot in otherwise unreachable areas! Keep on the lookout for oddities in the environment. A discoloration, a strange path branch, and other such inconsistencies usually mean there's a secret to be found there!
