This game is the second entry of a series of short-stories about different
characters from the same world.

The Rework is here:
Featuring extended story, gameplay, character backgrounds, updated graphics, added features.

The feature list:
- Item quick-select/use
- Improved Panic System, Spawn system for the horrors that come for you.
- A feature to let you fight back at some point.
- A feature that memorizes the decisions you make through the game and uses it in other games playing in the same universe.
- Press F5 for better Fullscreen F6 to adjust it

Story:

A peaceful, isolated village turns into one girl's nightmare as she awakens from her slumber to find herself separated from her beloved sister.
Join Unelma Cerdess as she wanders through the village while gradually uncovering the truth about its tragic fate.

This psychological thriller takes place in the same universe as "The Crimson Mind", though the timelines vary.
It is part of the series of short stories which lead up to my final project.

Game features:

- Dark atmosphere accompanied by a dark story
- Multiple endings based on choices made (make sure to collect all 4 diary flashbacks to unlock a post-credits cutscene!)
- Stealthy gameplay surrounding a Fear system
- Doesn't feature combat, character-driven
- About 45-60 minutes length of gameplay

Updates:
2015/6/8:
- Updated all facesets and some sprites (with the exception of Leyn)
- Fixed bug where slashing at a crystal with 0 seals gives game over
- fixed a certain npc chasing you before intended chase.

2015/7/8:
- Added a death checker, no longer the player will be murdered minutes after
he's supposed to. It gave the impression that something entirely different killed the player.

2015/14/8
- Made menu simpler, additional credits added to game.
- Fixed some slight bugs like typos and transfer events.

Feedback is appreciated!!

I felt like it could have been alot better. Not a fan of amnesia light dependency gameplay. The other mechanic, where you get stronger, that basically will aggro all the enemies in the room and you will either take hits or be forced to camp after it runs out. Some tiles were passable when they shouldnt have been. On the second floor of the orphanage, the stairs on the right side (next to the left door that leads out of the building) did not seem to work. Also, how do you get the other ending? Do you accept yourself instead of reject? That's the only branching decision in the game I think.

Spoilers for plot here
Mind explaining the plot a bit? I have no idea what happened at the end, or why they have to leave, or why the protagonist suddenly turns tsundere, or anything. What happened to her sister? Who's the random person at the lake, a sequel hook? No idea. I'm never big on these subtle types..

Freakin tileset passability, it was always a clusterfuck in that project so I could never fully fix those :S Basically yes, you accept.
Basically the ending you get influences Unelma's character in the next game.

For the plot, I don't know if you've read the flashback diaries but I'll assume you didn't, since you didn't see her turning "tsundere" in advance.
She turned tsundere because she was infected by Ray and the infection kicked in where she felt murderous, and it took control of her. As for why they have to leave. Basically her sister(leyn) capitalized on Unelma going wild and organized the entire thing so she could separate from her. But it didn't go according to plan, By the plan, Unelma should've never remembered anything and should've just left thinking she's dead. So why she had to leave was because she wanted to in the first place, and Unelma couldn't have stayed in that village alone, so she took the only offer there was. The random person at the lake was for the sequel yes ;D.

Sorry I'm not the best at explaining either, hope that helped a bit xP

wah this is a very good game! I really liked the whole system of fear and seals and stuff, plus this game gives off a sense of exploration though I'm not sure if that's intended.
the story line is fine for a short game, and I'm really looking forward to the next game, perhaps you should play around more with the concept of a fear system?
Overall a nice game, I would give it a 3.8 star, thanks for the hard work!

Whoa thanks you so much!
I'm glad you enjoyed it that much :D
The fear system itself was easy to make but the spawning system for the thing made me tear my hair out :P.

Fun game. I liked how you get rewarded for exploring with calming drugs and flashbacks, haha.

Also, nice mapping skills.

Thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
That was the idea xd put something in each house to encourage going in.

Random thoughts
good intro

should change the "lvl" on the status screen to age.
and make a custom menu that removes all unneeded features like status, equip ect

i hate plots like this so much...and people wonder why anyone could hate humans...unreal...
but...its pretty satisfying seeing this village rot :D

oh kick out of the village? they just said kick before...i thought they wanted to physically beat the crap out of the girls from the way the cutscene with the mayor worded it

Honestly,i am not a fan of horror games as the overly "dark" situations and themes
often found in them. blow my mind how people can call it a master piece.
This game however has the right amount of depressing and positive things to make it a great game.
generally speaking, that is to say design wise i have no complaints whats so ever! :D
there were a couple minor improvements to be made. but...

Overall
I highly recommend this game!

Thank your for your kind words!
I'm happy you enjoyed it so much, it always gives me inspiration to make more
games when people enjoy them :))
I'll be making the hud simpler soon(tomorrow since its finally weekend) i was just too busy this week to fix anything :P

Quite a fun game. I really liked the sword mechanic - gave power to the character.
I do have a question however:
There is a house in the woods with a locked door that I was unable to unlock. Is it possible to somehow unlock it?

PS. Removed other questions after finding the answers from ExtremeDevelopment's gameplay videos.

No sadly you can't, That one house, there's no way to open :D
Sorry :P

Submitted review~ I'm going to replay this to reevaluate the mechanics, though, since you say you fixed the bugs.

This game certainly has a very interesting mechanic that result in seemingly-random gameovers...

I mean, getting chased down by spectres and fear being max -> gameover, I can understand, but fear only being yellow and attempting to slash a crystal with a katana with full seals -> gameover? What xD
What the hell.
I don't think that's supposed to happen xd
can you tell me which crystal was it place wise? Maybe it's a specific one I didn't fix.

Edit:

- fixed every possibility of that happening, by adding a death variable checker.
It'll constantly check the variables to have you die when intended and not before or after.

- When and if Unelma's rid of her sword and is knocked out at some point, don't go close to the left wall (trying not to spoil and tell the bug at the same time)

Yeah I'm using Yanfly Chase Engine in my current project too, so I know how annoying it can be. I actually do like the art, it's way better than anything I can do that's for sure :P

I watched it through, it was very entertaining for me :D
seeing you panic when the panic meter filled xd and running through everyone getting chased by even more things :D
eating all the pills at some point too xd

Hahah yeah ain't nobody got time for regen XD And yeah when life gives you enemies you don't simply sneak past them.

as well as I saw some unforgivable bugs being in the game resulting you to die in very bs ways. Sorry about those.
I'm gonna update the game with the fix as soon as I'm done renewing the art in it.
three days.

Meanwhile the bugs that are game breaking:
- Slashing at crystals without seals gives you a game over when it should just give
a warning that you can't make it disappear without seals
- When and if Unelma's rid of her sword and is knocked out at some point, don't go close to the left wall (trying not to spoil and tell the bug at the same time)
