Sacred Reviews: I Hate my Flatmates

Intro

"I Hate my Flatmates" was developed by Ki-sama and is meant to be a comedic game. Unfortunately the humor in this game much like "Alex's Scar" really didn't resonate with me. This is largely because mucch like "Alex's Scar" the game relies heavily on swearing and vulgar language as its main comedic tool. And much like "Alex's Scar" the lack of ranting and yelling combined with obvious visual indicators of anger and frustration make such jokes difficult to pull off.

Though outside the main character commenting on how shitty his apartment is. The game also tries to invoke laughs with the absurd nature of the narrative as well as by making references to other properties. Though sadly I can't find that many laughs in the main antagonist being both a psychopathic murderer as well as bumbling incompetent. Thankfully the referential humor does fare a bit better, but some of the references feel a bit dated. Especially the references to the legendary Super Saiyan transformation from Dragon Ball Z considering were now looking at Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form in Dragon Ball Super.

Gameplay

On the gameplay side of things "I Hate my Flatmates" largely revolves around various fetch quests. Though this is probably to the game's benefit considering the weapons you pick up before the battle with the serial killer are all rather useless. Outside of the fetch quests the game also features a few points where the player can select between multiple dialogue options. Though this is largely pointless in my opinion since the only choices that have any apparent impact on the ending of the game occur right before the battle with the serial killer.

Graphics

On the visual side of things "I Hate my Flatmates" does alright in my opinion. While, I found the various rooms for the tenants in this game to be a bit overcrowded in my opinion. The various types of junk found in their rooms was at the very least indicative of their hobbies and personalities. About the only major graphical hiccup I came across was that the developer used the wrong facesets for some of the dialogue spoken during the build up to the final confrontation between the tenants and the serial killer.

Conclusion

"I Hate my Flatmates" is a game that may not appeal to all players and as such I can't really recommend it unless the few images available for this game catch your interest.
