Weird and Unfortunate 60% Version Now Available!!!

I am so excited to announce that the 60% Version of Weird and Unfortunate Things are Happening is now live and available for download!

If you still have your original save file from the old demo, you can move it over to the new release and continue the game from there. Unfortunately, I goofed, and the game still replays the ending of the demo before letting you continue the game ^^;; It still works otherwise.

I can't believe it's been almost three years since the original demo released. It took me quite a while to get this version finished, but I'm so glad it got done. A huge thanks again to all the testers for a ton of wonderful feedback and a lot of cool fixes and corrections that made the game play better. And here's hoping I can get the rest of the game done faster than this part took me XD

Gives me two Mariams for my save's character list. Interesting, but not problematic?

Oooooh, I know what's causing that. I may just disable saving in the skillspace to avoid it.

EDIT: Actually, I thought of another way to fix it. I'll give it a try.

Yep, you'll have to finish them off yourself. It's intentional. There are some really nasty poisons later on and I don't want them to oneshot players, so poison itself doesn't KO.

IIRC, the Encounter Bar turns Yellow, after a certain number of encounters.

Did you intend for it to change, even if you didn't fight anything?

'Cause I fled from a battle and the bar changed after... I'm not sure if the change would happen if you ran from all the encounters...

Well, it makes it easier to do a Low Level Run, *shrugs*

And anyone not fighting the monsters likely is doing it on purpose...

Yeah, you can just run from everything and be fine, if that's how you want to play. That's gonna make bosses harder and leave you with less obols to buy skills (it also would probably be pretty boring XD;;;), but yeah, it would allow people to do low level runs.

I may re-evaluate this system if I make a sequel or do another game with this system, but for now, I think it's probably fine.
Is the Rage, Terror, Sorrow mechanic, new?

Or has it always been there, and I just didn't notice until now?

It seems like they're doing a Rock-Paper-Scissors elemental attack thing, and is an important mechanic that seems to only be discussed by the monsters?

Or was there a Note about it, that I missed?

It's always been there, but not really discussed because your moves tell which type of monster they're useful against. And there's not a clear "this one beats that" and instead it's more "these enemy types don't like Terror and these ones don't like Sorrow."

Perhaps I should add a monster NPC talking about them earlier in the game.

Also yeah, I think I accidentally gave that one boss a few too many obols. Whoops XD
Are there only two Grimoires in the game?

Transformed Tome, and Heptameron? And they both give Mystic Boost, but the latter also gives Divine Breath?

When they were introduced, it sounded like the skills would be mutually exclusive...

And I expected more variety, like we have with Bats and Guns... Then again, we're only at 60%?

Maybe I need to backtrack to find more... I'm not sure if I can... But not sure that I can't, either... No, I think I've found it?

On the topic of Weapons, since it looks like Dottie's gonna be a player, I wonder what would her weapon be? She's a kid... She doesn't have any natural weapons...

There are only two grimoires in this release, since you only get Lamar in the last section. And yeah, they aren't super diverse in skills, tho I hope to make future ones more unique. There will be plenty more grimoires in the final release.

In the early stages of writing, I had Dottie's mom featured, but I felt like it bogged down the story and didn't add much. So, in the final game, she's out of town when the disaster happens (Dottie references this, mentioning being worried about her flight, in the game's opening). As for her dad, he left them about a year ago.

Thanks! It was a late addition when I got some great feedback about the school being a bit confusing and signs would help, so I had fun coming up with signs that would fit.

Wisps don't respawn, right?


Right. They give a nice break the first time you explore an area but then they're gone.

For future areas that you do more backtracking in (like the school), I've been thinking about adding a central pool of more wisps than the player would need at first, so they can make a decision about if they're going to use them all at first or use them gradually. Just a thought I'd had, not sure how it'll pan out in the final game.
