Forum Progress Thread

This game was created for the RPG Maker Birthday Bash in a mere 30 days.

Plot
You play as a detective who's been assigned to investigate the murder of one Mr. John Doe, butler to the Belmont family for nearly thirty years. He was fairly well-liked, and the pool of possible murderers is laughably small. There seems to have been no motive for the killing whatsoever. Can you bring the killer to justice? Good luck!

Features
- Showcasing the Non-Combat Menu! Was this project created for my script, or was my script created for this project? We'll never know...
- Character selection! Choose what the detective looks like, or play as a ball of fire.
- "Deduction" mechanic that allows you to combine two pieces of evidence to infer something about the crime
- Ask around! The people in Belmont manor each have something to say about the butler's death, however, some may be more helpful than the others.
- 15-30 minutes of gameplay, if you have an inkling of what you're doing.

Progress: Completed!
This is a fairly novice attempt at a mystery game, so I hope nothing seems too obvious or too obscure. Enjoy, nonetheless.

Hi! I just wanted to say that I quite enjoyed this game! Altough there were a few thing that were off to me, like the background music which doesn't really suit a murder investigation, the lack of use of the Deduction option, and the fact that the characters don't say anything to a lot of your evidence.

But otherwise, this is a nice game. Good luck with your future projects! :)

Thank you! Unfortunately, due to the smaller scope, I wasn't able to expand dialogue options as much as I liked. I perhaps will get around to writing
And yes, the music doesn't fit a dark murder mystery game. However, it does fit a happy murder mystery game! Comedy is somewhat my forte, and for a first venture into the mystery genre I stayed with one foot inside my comfort zone. Deduction is somewhat tedious, so it isn't necessary for the completion of the game, but there are a couple things that you can find out nonetheless with the feature. Think of it as a bonus ;)
Again, thanks for playing!
I'm getting this error whenever i try to accuse someone!! what should i do?? Plz Help I don't want to start all over!!

EDIT: I redownloaded the game and started again but I'm still getting the same error whenever I try to accuse someone from the accusation option.

EDIT 2: I checked again and this is happening for only a few characters(including the killer)
Plz tell me how to fix this coz I figured out the who the killer is and I really want to finish the game!!!

On it, I'll check it out immediately. I have a hunch as to what the problem is...

Edit: Should be fixed, updated to 1.0.2. You should still be able to use your old savefile, so migrate the Save##.rvdata2 into the new download.
The 1.0.2 version needs an .ini file.

Thanks! It worked and I finished the game! It was very interesting and I liked the game a lot. And some of the text was really funny!(like the xray vision comment XD)

P.S -> I know the game is finished and u can't change it but you should have added an after credits scene or something where the detective is rewarded for his/her work(The detective did have an eye on that lavish dinner in reward for solving the case or something like that idk) ;)
Thanks again! *Thumbs up*

@eevee93: Although I can't edit the game now to add new things onto it (it was an event game, and I was running pretty close to the deadline), I can attest as the Developer, by the power of the Word of God vested in me, that the detective was treated to a somewhat cold, though still delicious, plate of turkey and given many fruits and fine wine.
I want to complain about the music. It made it seem happy which is inapropro considering the circumstances lol. Another thing, what is in the fireplace and how can I retrieve it? Thanks.

It's part of an accusation. You can retrieve it when you accuse the right person. You'll notice that the fire goes out when you're accusing someone.

And, well, it's a light-hearted murder mystery :D
Nothing too serious, which is why 'comedy' is one of the tags, haha.

I do admit, though, I have no taste in music, at all.

@Professor_Q Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it, and I am looking forward to reading the review.

@white_sheba Really? You'd like to translate this? Sure, feel free to... However, it seems that over the past 6 days you've made no fewer than 19 similar posts on other gamepages asking the same question. Sorry, but it's hard to believe.

Podes traduzir este videojogos, no entanto, na seis dias passada você disse que traduzirias quase 19 outros videojogos. É difícil acreditar. Desculpe.

Heh, thanks, TungerManU. I've seen your name around quite a bit, and recognition from you means something.

Was your first mystery Halloweeb? Because I actually quite enjoyed that game. You've read my impressions. It's rare that I enjoy a game that isn't eye candy, so you did a good job with creating an interesting setting and plot.

I might actually re-do this game-- to add more dialogue, perhaps, because from the let's plays I've seen people get really into questioning the suspects and are kinda let down when it's generic dialogue. However, I'd still keep the music, no matter what people say. It may seem inconsistent with the mood at first, but when considering the game in its entirety, is somewhat appropriate.
I haven't played many detective-like RPG games like this, but it was really fun! I'm glad I happened to find it. :)

@rainisnotcool, I'm glad you liked it!

Unrelated, but I'll have to personally disagree with your username :P Rain is great. It's really soothing to listen to as you lie on your bed, and a good excuse for not getting up to do anything xD As for being outside, I love it as long as I'm not getting wet.

Unless, that is, you're talking about some person named Rain and not the actual thing itself. In which case, ignore me and proceed on your way.
No words. This game is fantastic!
