Welcome to Eredia, my friends...

Hello heroes and adventurers of Arlis!
We're here with a RPG Maker MV game created by Potatobrain Games... *drum roll* ... Eredia - Diary of Heroes! Well not a surprise since you probably already read the title, isn't it? Anyway what immediately surprised me was the title screen.
In two words: really pretty!

We see a long haired archer under a tree as little leaves fall. But hey, who's this guy? Well wait a bit, because first you will have to select the difficulty of the game. You can change it later, of course, and the story instead is the same, by the way the harder modes grant some special content that is lost IF you lower the difficulty rating of course!

Then the game starts, but no archer! No, we've a tutorial in which we play as Giraldus the Warlord and Vishael the Supreme Elf. These two heroes steamroll the opposing soldier until they meet Iscarioth, the Dark Silver Knight... then the real game starts: we're in the Aegean Empire and Kenrad the Hunter, the same men that appears on the title screen, is getting drunk in a tavern.

I like a lot the characters' selection screen and portraits!

Kenrad Krauser is just a pathetic level 2 hunter, nothing else. And since a war is ravaging the world of Arlis he decides to make the most of his opportunities creating amercenary company. If you're looking for heroes you are in fact in the wrong place, since most party members, starting from the protagonist, can be classified as anti-heroes, and some more than others! The characters (you have six other characters besides the protagonist, but the party is limited to four active party members) are all pretty interesting, for example Elric, the martial artist and former gang member that used to suffer from a multiple personality disorder (!) or Ariel the warrior innkeeper. But also some Npcs are amusing, such as Bernard, Kenrad's rival, anyway I'll let you discover the rest of the world by yourself.

Eredia - Diary of Heroes can be considered an open world rpg, because despite the classic (even if a bit dark) fantasy setting the game offers an intriguing world of adventures where you can make decisions that actually matter, and the story and events are really engaging and interesting.
What's even more interesting is that the game not only includes a da-and-night cycle but even a calendar system. But the game also includes some hidden features like Fame, that increases completing missions and slaying monsters, Karma that can be positive or negative and depends on making good or bad deeds, and Friendship, that depends on how you behave with other characters (giving gifts, saying the right things and completing the characters' quests).

From Kenrad face you can clearly understand that he's going to talk to the dragon... and then ATTACK!

The game is basically a huge fantasy adventure with lots of quests (there are four guilds that you can join) that will let the party become experienced enough to go on and explore more dangerous areas (the early part of the game has many high-level areas such as Mt. Aedelen that you should avoid until you are ready), and by exploring I really mean it: there are many useful items here and there, loot hidden inside pots and crates and even books you can sell at the Southeast Aegean Post Office.

Battles uses the Charge Turn Battle System, with special skills (that have tiers in their descriptions ranging from E to S, suggesting their overall power and usefulness) powered by MPs or TPs... or both! But there is also lots of customization possible, for example there are some equipments that can give your characters HP regen, and almost every item can be socketed with magical runestones. The most common equips can only have one runestone each socketed in them while the rarest can have up to four. The various setups can also make the difference, for example you can make Elric an expert in counterattacks... but pay attention, because some bosses can do the same too!

Visually the game is pretty, very pretty! I know that many Npcs use the classic RPG Maker MV RTP charsets and facesets, and also some assets are something you may have seen elsewhere, but I also noticed many original sprites and overall I liked mapping (lights and shadows are used pretty well, in my opinion, also maps are professionally made) and the interface, that includes a clock and a calendar. Music is also pretty good and fits the game well.

I like big fat men like you. When they fall they make more noise and sometimes they never get up!

Final Verdict
Eredia - Diary of Heroes is a really addictive game. 60 hours of adventure, and do not let the classic Rpgmaker graphics make you underestimate this game, because it's very fun, from the well written dialogues and cutscenes to the various quests. You will start rescuing sheeps and fighting bandits... and some time later you will instead punch dragons and deal with demons, but there is one common thing: the enjoyment! There are a lot of things I did not mention, like minigames, timed missions, and so on. Lots and lots of content, and if you like rpgmaker jrpg games this is a must play. Really.
