Everything Turns Gray
A Post Apocalyptic Open World RPG

What is it?
Everything Turns Gray is an open-world sand-box or "play-ground" style CRPG set in a realistically bleak, harsh, and inhospitable post-apocalyptic wasteland. Immediate comparisons that come to mind would obviously include the Fallout series and its inspiration, Wasteland. While of course I was inspired by these classics of the genre, the more meaningful inspiration for EtG, in terms of mood, tone, and message, was the novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The end goal is less a light hearted or humorous romp through post apoclayptia and more a brutally accurate simulation of a world destroyed. For this reason, rather than enemy robots or mutants, your chief concerns in EtG are the cold, dehydration, starvation, fatigue, and omnipresent radiation. In other words, a whole new spin on "survival horror", with the emphasis firmly on the survival. Unlike in any Fallout game, you must keep yourself fed and hydrated to live, and finding food and water and shelter makes up the basis of the game's greatest challenge.

New OLD Demo

I uploaded a local download for the April 2009 demo because the only available download link was a dead link to my old Ghostlight Games site.

If somebody were to download it, play it, and make sure it works that would be pretty cool. I think it's the right folder but I haven't tested it or anything.

That said this project is still on Hiatus-probably-really-meaning-cancelled-but-don't-want-to-concede-to-reality having not been worked on in five years. Do not mean to get any hopes up for my 42 subscribers. Holy shit this has 42 subscribers.

I do think about revisiting an ETG LIKE game from time to time these days. It would just need to be smaller in scope, because as one reviewer correctly pointed out, I set myself an almost impossible task here.

Wow your creativity, your originality, just...boundless.
He was reacting to a post a page or so back. I don't think he was taking a shot at your game.

Although if there's any chance that some controversy could resuscitate this thing, I will controversialize the hell out of it.

Everything Turns Gray hates puppies! It votes in favor of higher taxes! :p
Why vote for the lesser of two evils? Vote ETG!!!
working download link? Pretty Please
Yes, I have also wanted to try out the game. But the download takes me to a page and then nothing happens. Doesnt even say the download link is broken. :(

It has basically just come to my attention that this download link is broken. I will try to repair it soon.
Is this still continuing? It was possibly my favourite all-time RPG Maker game and it's sad to see it grind to a halt.
Every time I see a post here, I get briefly hopeful.

Sadly, as far as I know, there are no plans to ever continue this. It is also possible that the McGee has left these rpgmaker shores for good. I haven't seen even a wisp of a project from him for months.
Can you repair download link?

That make for a interesting RMN game lol...fabulouuuusssss!!!!
Post apocalyptic scavenging RPG heavily inspired by the Fallout series. Not sure, but I think some skills are completely luck dependent, like lockpicking or hacking. Meaning you could really be screwed over, since there are very little supplies you can get and there are no free heals. Running from random encounters is pretty much impossible. You also have a 'fatigue' meter not unlike hardcore fallout and you will probbably be able to do nothing about it since you are dirt poor. I know it's supposed to convey the sense of surviving in an unforgiving wasteland like in fallout but truth be told, fallout never really conveyed that feeling at all. I'm betting most ppl go into fallout with overpowered DLC weapons or something and arent ever feeling threatened by anything except the strongest enemies.

Well back on topic, I couldnt get far in this game, usually i would chill at the town but as soon as i go out to the wasteland i get squashed like a radroach by the first or second encounter. I do have a few medkits but enemies dont drop much money to justify the use of medkits, and inns are even more expensive. Didnt think I can get any further than the first town. You are prevented from freely exploring other areas since the game railroads you and I'm not quite sure what was expected of me to do.

The most recent post on the page is from bicfarmer in June, so it seems fitting to respond to that as I admit to myself this project is cancelled.

Nothing in this game is entirely luck dependent (probabilistic), nor is anything entirely deterministic. The game uses a combination of probabilistic and deterministic features familiar to most cRPG and tabletop gamers: rolling dice and modulating the result based on your character's abilities.

I know it's supposed to convey the sense of surviving in an unforgiving wasteland like in fallout but truth be told, fallout never really conveyed that feeling at all.

It was never anywhere near as inspired by Fallout as you assume. Anyway, Everything Turns Gray has failed to survive in the unforgiving wasteland of RMN. Like so many of you, it has perished out in the wastes.
