Lost, totally lost

Lost in Fantasy 2 (I will someday play the first episode too, but they told me that they are unrelated and this looked more interesting, so I started from here) is a bizarre game: when I started it I did not know what I was going to play and what I found was a short linear game in two parts: an rpg and an action game.

The first part is set in a stereotypical fantasy world and we play as Polox, a soldier and his friend Ripper during a war. During their adventure we will learn about the conflict and discover that our two protagonists are the bad guys of the story. Luckily our protagonist have a change of heart when he sees an infant in danger and he decides to defend her from his own comrades. For this reason he will be hunted by his former allies, and will have to escape the warzone with the little girl, Sapphira (nice touch the fact that she's a real party member, quite weak but with some skills too!).

War, war never changes...

This part is basically an rpg: the two protagonists are often joined by other soldiers that have various skills (really similar to theirs, but that can guarantee extra or stronger attacks). There are chests scattered around that contain useful equipment and consumables like healing potions. Levels are earned after some fights but don't expect to grind or earn new abilities: it is all very linear and simple, game is saved after exiting each map and you can't go back, there are no random encounters but enemies are always visible and can be avoided in some cases. Difficulty is quite simple despite the absence of shops that forces the player to rely on the looted supplies.

The second part starts immediately after Polox escapes with the Sapphira. This time the game places the player in control of Cruz, a man that is with his girlfries... Sapphira! What? Well it's almost sure that she is the same infant saved by the knight, since she has the same name and she's blonde too!
And... it seems that she is still in danger! Now as Cruz we have to protect the girl and escape the thugs that will try to shoot or backstab them (he is no soldier, just a former student, so no combat in this section, just driving/running away!). Drive, drive, run, run, run. This is basically the rundown of this second part, that ends with a cliffhanger, leaving lots of unanswered questions.

Lost in Fantasy 2 is a short adventure that can be seen as a good demo but not complete adventure. It's well done even if basic: even if writing is good (despite a typo I found, "fulfil"), there is no much interaction with the surroundings, cutscenes are quite short and the game is extremely linear. While this is not a defect, it will leave you wanting for more, I am sure. Difficulty is balanced and gameplay is well done, but there isn't a lot to do in this adventure, besides finding secret spots that unlocks pictures in the art gallery.

The train! The thugs behind us!! Let's run away!!!

Graphics are mainly Rtp but there are some custom sprites and original drawings that really enhance the atmosphere. Mapping is ok, nothing particularly exciting (but better in the second part), but there are many light effects that give an eerie feeling to the setting (even if they make more sense in some situations, for example when the city is set on fire, in other cases these are not bad but seem a bit unnecessary, I think).

Final Verdict
Lost in Fantasy is an interesting project: despite an apparently boring beginning, it soon interested me, and started to really shine after the end of part one (I think that everything from gameplay to graphics improves, pity there is not a third part of the story, and an ending too). You can surely have fun playing this game, just do not expect a deep or complex gameplay or a long adventure. But the narrative really keeps the player interested, it's linear and straightto the point with no dull or boring parts, just like an action movie.
This gets a 3.5/5, only because it feels incomplete, despite being a pretty good game.

I am happy to hear this!
I promise I will try also the first one...
This game was pretty good, pity that leaves with a cliffhanger that made me wish for more! =)
Anyway the modern part was really the high point, there are too few rpmk games with modern setting!

Ah the first game is cringy, I can't believe I made that game to be honest. Haha, but I hope you enjoy!

And that's true, during development of this game, I didn't see much modern setting RPG games, so I managed to sneak one in on this game.

You know seeing your review and people still playing this game, it motivates me to continue with this project. If in the near future I continue with this, then if you want, you'll be the first to know. I already began production, just abandoned it for some time.
