About:
Patches is a Surreal Horror RPG game in development inspired by the classic story, Alice in Wonderland. Based on a short fantasy horror story written by Carillon Nightmares, it presents a new surreal atmosphere to explore with creatures that can only be found in fairy tales. The deeper you travel into these surreal worlds, the darker they become, and the more you begin to realize that even the brightest of dreams can become the most horrifying of nightmares.
Story:
Gilbert Warrens, a young orphan boy in the Victorian Era who sees creatures and visions that no one else can see. He is mocked for his gift and the other orphans tend to stay away from him. So, he turns to the hidden creatures as friends instead. On his surreal journey he meets many different creatures such as talking night butterflies and a mysterious owl who controls time. However, not all these creatures that he meets are friendly. One, known as Mr. Raven Needlework, the Man of Surreal, invites people to a world of his own creation, and once a person enters this world, they never return to reality.

Otherland is a pay-what-you-want interactive visual novel made in RPG Maker VX Ace. It is a complete overhaul of Patches, which was a puzzle game cancelled in the middle of 2017 (2020 on this site) due to the author being overwhelmed by such a massive project.
Taking critiques on the previous game into account, the story and characters have been severely altered and organized more structurally, so that there is a way to make a whole game without an entire team to back up the director.
Otherland focuses on telling a story, instead of a puzzle and is more of a passion project than the last game. It is a whimsical horror based on Alice in Wonderland (book) and inspired by other horror titles like Little Nightmares, Fran Bow, Ib, and Pocket Mirror, while still having its own personal charm. It tells a story about how nothing can be ever be perfect and perfectionism isn't always perfect - this includes life not being perfect itself. That no matter how beautiful paradise may seem, it still has its flaws.

Well, I've added a demo now, if you'd like to try it out!

Wow, interesting, I'm a huge fan of Victorian era. This looks promising. Good luck :D!
Thank you! I'm trying my hardest to make it the best game possible. It's probably going to be my first and only game.
Tried to play it. Right in the beginning after you hear the bird, it stays pitch black and just says not responding. Also the music keeps playing.
I have the right rtp and also installed the fonts needed. Not sure why it's doing that. Just a heads up.

I and a few was able to get through the downloaded version of the demo, so it may have just been a classic vx ace crash. It seems like you're at the beginning, and everyone who I've talked to has gotten past that point. It seems like it was just your computer acting up.

Not sure how it's my computer when I play another vx ace game and that one works perfectly fine.
Before we start this:
I have restarted my computer
I have re-installed the game(About to re-install the package from the hosted website again)
And nothing still.
So I have a hard time believing it's my computer when It's only this game alone that acts up unless there is something missing entirely that I'm not aware of but I'm sure I wouldn't have been to run other vx ace games either because of this.
Re-installed RTP and also the game. Still nothing. So unless there is entirely something else to try I'm out of ideas.

Huh, well no one else has had this problem that I know of. I don't know how to respond to this, as it's worked for everyone else. It might just be your computer. There's nothing wrong with the game, so there's nothing to fix.
author=CarillonNightmaresHmm, that's unfortunate. The only thing I can gather from "rpg vx ace freezing" as it's usually referring to an event error in the game. Not sure why it's only my end or I'm the only one speaking up about it but it's weird that I can run pocket mirror and etc. perfectly fine but this one just shits itself the moment it hears the bird. Does not even give me an error message. This is also after the listed above of what I've tried.author=Ghos7SoldierHuh, well no one else has had this problem that I know of. Unless you don't mind giving me the test file but that's up to your discretion.
As of right now there is no fix for me to attempt or try as I can't say my computer is the error either as it runs everything else fine as well. Until I figure something or someone comes up with an idea I'm SOL in playing the game.
Edit: Found something out. Going to test a few more things and then see what's causing it. If I find out I'll let you know.
Edit2: I'm done. I tested this on my gf's laptop and it works, hers is worse than my comp, but mine can't even get past that point. No crash message or nothing and I've spent 2 hours trying to figure it out. Unless it's some random hidden program that I haven't closed out of that's stopping it I don't know. I give up.
=/
It looks fun too.
Also, the reason why I want to play it on my comp is because I was going to do a let's play. Can't do it on my gf's laptop. In case you were gonna ask that. Maybe some other day it will work.

I've updated the game now. I don't know if your problem will be fixed, but there was a corrupt sound that I left in there that I've now removed. It didn't effect my game or anyone else's, but not sure if it was really the cause. It might have been that.

Whatever you did, it works now. I'm not sure exactly what it is whether it was that corrupted sound or something else but it finally got to the next part.
Seriously, thank you. I got upset that I couldn't figure out what was causing it. I tried a LOT of different methods too.

I'll have to keep in mind if a sound breaks, remove it from the event sequence and don't use it. Had no idea that a corrupt sound could break anything because it didn't do it to my laptop dinosaur.

Well, I'm glad it's fixed now. I really was losing it trying to figure out what was causing it.
Love the music dearly, just wondering though. I am a bit stuck. I am looking for the gloves, but I have no idea what the note means by 'blue things'. As far as I can see, there are no blue things. The only blue things I found are the books, and the kitchen which is entirely blue

*SPOILER*
It's the curtains. They're dark blue. I have a Walkthrough in the media section. You should consult that if you get stuck.

How didn't I see this before???!!! I will definetely play the demo! It looks really promising!
Thank you so much for picking up my game. You don't know how much this means to me as people from multiple sites have seemingly picked up the game then suddenly stopped, or just didn't tell me that they finished it. I thought it would be a while before someone actually noticed it on this website again. I've only gotten a few tell me that they've finished it. There's been more positive balances than negative, so I think you'll enjoy yourself.

I am sure that I will enjoy it! I already love this game: the story, the mapping... The victorian era! Everything suits just my likings! Anyway, since this week I will write a chemistry class exam I can't play your game until comes the weekend... But don't worry! I will be one of the few who told you that they finished playing it, and I will also let you know what I think about it :)
(my english is pretty bad... I hope you understand what I wrote)

I understood exactly what you wrote. I'm glad that you like the game's setting and story, as it is almost two years old now. There's also no rush for you to play. :)
