Good day and welcome to Glacia!
Glacia is an RPG Maker VX game by DrawnActor, and the only one we have here. Unfortunately it's not a complete game but the last 2012 release includes the first chapter of a very interesting story.
Our hero is Rain Garshon, and he is not an adventure, but the young prince of Glacia. One night he wakes up and notices that his wife, Lailah Garshon, is absent. Unfortunately this is just the beginning of his misfortunes, because his own wife has plotted to seize control of Glacia through force, murdering the King and turning the nation against Prince Rain. Oh no!
So Rain is betrayed and forced to flee in exile with the help of his former bodyguard (and best friend) Gaven after being branded as an imposter, actually becoming a lone adventure looking for proof of his lineage to be accepted back at his palace.
Lailah is Prince Rain's wife... hm. Or *was*, technically!
Glacia is a classic rpgmaker jrps with a party composed by a varied cast of characters that have to explore forests and dungeons fighting opponents that luckily aren't found suddenly is random encounters, but are instead actually visible and avoidable nd respawn only if we leave and later re-enter the same map.
Oh yes the maps: despite using Rtps(VX mixed with some MACK assets) for the most part the game is really very well mapped. Nothing wrong with this, it shows how good can look a game when competently mapped, despite the use of assets you can probably have seen a thousand times.
Unfortunately regarding the gameplay and combat... well it's ok! I mean, it's not exactly easy, especially in the beginning, and it's also nothing really new. For example in the beginning you have to face some fire slimes (how original!) that if aren't killed soon can inflict some serious damage to a low level character. Luckily I was able to find an Ice Sword in a nearby secret area! And suddenly these slimes were no longer a huge problem, but hey that was a really lucky find! Characters in fact seems to miss a bit too often for my taste, but ok, at least later the loot proved to be rather generous in terms of items (you can even find loot on the world map!), I even ammassed so much gold that I had no use for it!
Anyway there are also some good aspects, like the crafting system and alchemy that gives some real incentive to battle enemies instead of avoiding them. Anyway despite this, the game uses the old formula of exploring dungeons, fighting monsters and killing bosses at the end of the path. Well technically there are also o couple of extras like puzzles and some optional task, but nothing much and you can avoid them entirely.
Rain has to beome accustumed to the like of the adventurer, but he's no longer alone in his travels
Final Verdict
Glacia is an ok game, nothing new and mixes some good ideas and parts to a bit tedious navigation of some enclosed dangerous areas. The plot is not bad (even if there are some odd things about it that makes little sense but I cannot say if it's an oversight or something that could have been explained in next chapters!), anyway writing could have a bit better, still I do not want to critize too harshly a game that axists just as an incomplete demo. Anyway what we've here is basically a really classic jrpgs focused in building a good party by managing their equipments and so on. To tell the truth I'd have liked some more interaction and extra tasks (like puzzles or other miniquests) just to make the gameplay more varied, but again, it's only a demo. And not a bad one, try it if you like this genre, of course!

Thanks for the Review. DrawnActor is a contributor to this project. Glaica was started, directed, produced and developed by myself. Other than myself many people have contributed to the project, DrawnActor being the most significant. The current version of the project sadly doesn't reflect the current state of it on our computers. Also sadly life and difficulties working on the project has stalled an otherwise 88% complete release of chapter one and a sneak peak of chapter two from being put out into the world.
DrawnActor was brought on to assist me with writing dialog and story as it was clearly my weakest point before. A great deal of the increase in quality of the dialog and improvements in storytelling are in great due to him. Building off of the original concept created by myself. At this time DrawnActor no longer wishes to be involved in the project. I believe this is due to his commitment to a perfectionist mindset. Meaning he has a version of the game he wants out there, and if he doesn't have the time and attention to devote to that he would prefer to not be involved.
All of this being stated myself and DrawnActor are still close friends on great terms and we may even revisit this together at some point. I may write a blog post update on the game and my plans for it in the future. At this exact time I am busy with my business.
Thank you for the review and the interest in Glaica. I do expect to at least one day to polish and release the build that is on my pc once life allows. DrawnActor has expressed his exhaustion at assisting me is finishing up the project. This may change. Either way this project has and still is important to me and I do not consider it abandoned.
